DigitalSpyness

More hints about the Unicorn and the Wasp (the length of that name it going to annoy me soon - its hard to type!) As usual, 3 of them are red herrings.

  • There is an explicit reference to the events of 'The Unquiet Dead'.
(Apparently there are references to the Runaway Bride and Shakespeare Code)

  • Donna tries to blend into the time period by saying "spiffing" and "chin chin".
(Perhaps is to do with reference to Shakespeare Code?)

  • There are spinning newspapers. Fans of Cluedo will love the pre-credits sequence.
(On the BBC website, spinning newspapers were used)

  • Agatha Christie makes a sexual advance towards Donna, but is loudly knocked back.
    (Apparently
feminism and gay issues are explored)

  • An arrow-armed Doctor is seen in flashback in Hercule Poirot's old hunting ground.
(True according to someone who has seen a preview)

  • The Doctor tries to down a jar of anchovies.
(Info from way back suggests this is true)

  • Part of a Cybus Cyberman turns up in the episode.
(True according to someone who has seen a preview)

  • The Doctor disappoints Donna by telling her that Enid Blyton's Noddy is not real.
(True according to someone who has seen a preview)

  • Chief Inspector Smith from Scotland Yard makes an appearance.
(True - the Doctor's pseudonym - see trailer)

  • Donna thinks that 'Murder On The Orient Express' is a song by Sophie Ellis Bextor.

  • Donna tells Agatha Christie that her plot twists are nothing compared to the Jeremy Kyle Show.

And here are some quotes from the ep:

"All this **** (Talk? Life?) will be the death of you."
"One must be sure with the Unicorn on the loose."
"The thrill is in the chase, never in the capture."
"Tell me there's no Noddy!"
"There are no such things as giant wasps."
"D**** (Death?) comes as the end - and justice is served."

Well, considering last time I was so terribly wrong, I'm sure all my guesses are totally crap, but here we go:

    >>Donna tries to blend into the time period by saying "spiffing" and "chin chin".<<

Knowing her to have nearly as little social graces as the Doctor, I'm going to guess this as true. ;)

    >>There are spinning newspapers. Fans of Cluedo will love the pre-credits sequence.<<

Um...yeah, sure why not? A bit cheesy, but that might work well for comedy effect.

    >>Agatha Christie makes a sexual advance towards Donna, but is loudly knocked back.<<

Um, no. Red herring right there, I think....I hope. After a bit of research I've found no evidence that she ever swung that way, or that there were even any rumors about it, as far as I saw.

    >>An arrow-armed Doctor is seen in flashback in Hercule Poirot's old hunting ground.<<

Erm...sounds odd, but might be plausible if you interpret the words in a particular way. Like, who's flashback? Are we talking a literal flashback, or are we just talking a directorial technique and not a *totally* literal flashback?

    >>The Doctor tries to down a jar of anchovies.<<

Remembering the incident with him dipping his fingers into Mrs. Webber's jelly jar, that's completely likely! ;D

    >>Part of a Cybus Cyberman turns up in the episode.<<

    Interesting, but not likely.

    >>Donna thinks that 'Murder On The Orient Express' is a song by Sophie Ellis Bextor.<<

Possibly, though not being British, or really into pop much, I had to check this one out. I didn't find a song of that name in any discography, but that might not mean anything. Donna could still think it was one of her songs.

    >>There is an explicit reference to the events of 'The Unquiet Dead'.<<

Ohh, now this one seems very likely.

    >>Donna tells Agatha Christie that her plot twists are nothing compared to the Jeremy Kyle Show.<<

Considering this is apparently the UK equivalent of Jerry Springer, I wouldn't be surprised.

    >>The Doctor disappoints Donna by telling her that Enid Blyton's Noddy is not real.<<

I dunno, Donna seems fairly reasonable in this series, but maybe she has a minor "Runaway Bride" regression. Who knows?

    >>Chief Inspector Smith from Scotland Yard makes an appearance. (the Doctor's pseudonym - see trailer)<<

Well, yes, since "Chief Inspector Smith" *is* the Doctor. ;)

  4. ooooo I dont know I was so stupidly wrong last week, I really wanted Jenny to have been there during the Time War and seen Susan. So this week I will just go for the cyberman one as being the faker of this week, although the rumour that all earth bound episodes have a reference to or feature Rose seems to be correct so far, so maybe....

  5. Why do i want this to be true...

I don't think the one about mixing up the song is true, because they had a similar red herring for Planet of the Ood

Perhaps they mean REAL inspector Smith, not the Doctor, shows up later?
Maybe Doctor with arrows refers to end of 'Blink'? Although Hercule Poirot is a fictional character.
Hm, spiffy, chin-chin. Really can see it happen. Doctor: no, don't, don't do it.

Part of a Cybus Cyberman turns up in the episode.
    Probably not

Donna thinks that 'Murder On The Orient Express' is a song by Sophie Ellis Bextor.
    I hope so XD

There is an explicit reference to the events of 'The Unquiet Dead'.
    Very very very likely

Donna tells Agatha Christie that her plot twists are nothing compared to the Jeremy Kyle Show.
    I hope so :)

The Doctor disappoints Donna by telling her that Enid Blyton's Noddy is not real.

    Okay.
Is Agatha Christie a lesbian or something?
Wouldn't be surprised since this show is very...open about that kind of stuff.

You say that the episode "Silence in the Library" won't be airring for a week because of the eurovision song contest. It says here http://www.bbc.co.uk/pressoffice/proginfo/tv/wk22/sat.shtml#sat_doctorwho that there is no programme set between PGA Golf and TESC. Dr Who must still be on that day and that time.

hey jess! this is really important. go to stuff i've seen this week (cameron mcewan's blog) for a new the unicorn and the wasp trailer and a spoiler: there's a cyberman chestplate in the episode! also there is a unit sticker behind jenny and donna from the doctor's daughter, on stuff i've seen this week. go go go

    ReplyDelete
  20. Yup, already seen it. The trailer has no new clips in it, which is a bit unusual (and annoying)

I don't know where he got the spoiler from... I know its mentioned in the Digital Spy list, but now I'm super curious!

yh! there's a bit when donna swings her handbag. we need to find his sources! i think the other hoax is spinning newspapers, agatha's sexual advance and poirot flashback. did u see the unit sticker. it may have been a mistake, like a bit near the end of the poison sky with skorr in, even though he's dead already

  30. yes they looked different, they used to be different heights too though lol

    ReplyDelete
  31. Yeah... As I remember it, Skorr died and Staal was in the spaceship. I'm not exactly the most observant person in the world, though, so you probably know something I don't.

    ReplyDelete
  32. AnonymousMay 14, 2008

Whose to say Skorr and Staal weren't cloned from different clones? Think about it, if you have a single member of a race and then clone it a million times over, at least one of them will probably be different. Clone those million+1 over and now you have 1million+1 more from each clone. Now is there a reason why none of those clones can look like another clone?

Because, remember with Sally Sparrow, he had to run off, just after she gave him the purple folder, and what did the doctor have sug over his shoulder? Arrows :D
