I did!
And you can see the whole episode on youtube right here!
But there wasn't much on any story arcs... a quick reference to missing Bees again from Donna ("at least there are Bees in 1924") and I suppose there was more on the creation of life - the wee Bee baby
But there was nothing about:
- Rose
- Lost Doctor
- Lost Planets
- The Time War
- Creating new life
- The Medusa Cascade
And, just out of curiosity, do we reckon that there is somewhat of an arc in the whole "we're not a couple" thing? Its been mentioned in TFOP, POTO, TDD, and now TUATW
Cant wait for this episode!
ReplyDeleterose maybe, because of the week off they want us to leave the table still hungry!
ReplyDeletelost bees i doubt as its the 1920s and the english bees havent even died out yet :)
lost planets & medusa cascade & time war, possibly if the wasp is alien?
theres a lost doctor?
also we need sometihng about CREATING LIFE (possibly from another life) perhaps something becomes a giant wasp?
maybe this 'unicorn' thing creates life? or agatha christie wants to create life with donna?
ReplyDeleteLost Doctor as in "Your song will end soon" kinda thing... and yes, I'll add a creating life point.
ReplyDeleteOMG
ReplyDeleteHow about Doctor/Donna couple as an arc? They were kstaken in T.F.O.P. & P.O.T.O.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait for this episode!
Oops I meant mistaken.
ReplyDeletecould lady eddison being pregnant count as part of the creating life thing? i didnt really notice anything else
ReplyDeleteGreat episode :)
ReplyDeleteI think that it was the best and funniest of this series.
SALT!
Next time looked interesting :P
That's a first: a S4 episode with no obvious links to any potential story arc. Very entertaining though, and I laughed hard at the Colonel being rumbled by accident. No big trailer was disappointing, but I suppose that'll turn up next week somehow, as Jess reported...
ReplyDeletere question above, A human becoming an alien wasp, the Vespiform, so again one life-form becoming another. Full info on my blog.
ReplyDeleteNo disappearing planets lately, but apparently there was a lost chatbox. Way to go.
ReplyDeleteI loved this episode!
ReplyDelete10/10
Jess thank you for putting of the cbox the BBC person was being extremely rude and annoying.
ReplyDeleteOMG!!! bbc still havent uplaoded the latest episode!!! havent bin able to watch it yet :(
ReplyDeleteFantastic Episode! No Use of the Good Old Sonic. Plus a New Trailer will be up next Week. Here is what the BBC Who Website Had to say;
ReplyDelete"Tune into BBC One on Saturday 24th May, just before Eurovision (8pm), to see a special sneak preview of the rest of Doctor Who Series Four!
Once you have seen the trailer, don't forget to head straight back here to watch it all over again online - and to check out our special web-exclusive Eurovision gap week treats!"
I think its ok to put the cbox back up now.
ReplyDeletePut the c box back up please
ReplyDeleteAs much as I would like to put the Cbox back up, I wont.
ReplyDeleteIt was abused to much despite my warnings, and the behavior on it was disgraceful.
It will be restored at some point. But not now. Sorry for any inconvenience.
I'm with you on this one, Jess! :-)
ReplyDeleteit was a fantastic episode, this series has been on the ball with its entertainment! lets hope the rest follows suit and not disappoint fellow rose/doctor shippers hint hint
ReplyDeleteThank you very much for taking the cbox down for now. I stumbled across your blog and as am in America and several weeks behind in broadcast check your blog daily to catch up and watch the newest. The people abusing the cbox were just ruining the entirety of your lovely site.
ReplyDeleteHilarious episode! I think I needed that after the weepy mess I'd been for most of the series. :)
ReplyDeletePoor Donna. The one time she gets to snog him good, and he's got all that nasty crap in his mouth. Mmm, nutty/salty/gingery breath. Blech. :P
Have to be honest, I didn't really like this episode that much. It was funny in places but to no real purpose, however......
ReplyDeletewas it me, or wasn't that the Master's theme in the background when Agatha Christie pointed out the vicar? I'm sure it was there. No one has mentioned it so I hope I haven't imagined it but I could swear I heard it.
What does that mean?
what was going on with the cbox? where has it gone?
ReplyDeleteErr. The "we're not a couple" thing, was also mentioned in "The Doctor's Daughter". Not in those words though, Jenny (i think it was) mistakenly thinks they are, she asks Donna about it, and she says they're just friends. Maybe there is a storyarc going on here :) Hehe. Just for a little notice.
ReplyDeleteLoved the comedy, loved trying to keep track of all the titles that they referenced, but the urgency of the denouement with the firestone and its linkages felt clumsily forced, and more arbitrary than usual, even for this season.
ReplyDeleteBut so much of it was very entertaining, I must admit.
I loved the Carrionites in their crystal ball while he was looking for the book. I couldn't stop laughing.
ReplyDeleteI always get a kick out of real historical references worked into the story. (Christie's disappearance here, the Koh-I-Noor in "Tooth and Claw," etc.)
ReplyDeleteI'm not all that familiar with her books, though. With all the references to them sprinkled throughout, I wonder how many I missed.
i totally loved this episode! i had no idea, until the last minute, who the murderer was and I loved how they set up the episode as a murder mystery(flashbacks--the doctor in the woods w/ a bow and arrow hilarious!!)
ReplyDeletekinda nervous bount the next one--I love moffat but the whole 'donna don't take your eyes off the shadows' thing reminds me too much of Blink (which i loved) but dont want a repeat.
also, if we have eurovision next week, greece better as hell win to make that saturday worth it...but good luck to everybody else too :)
Didn't anyone else notice...?
ReplyDeleteDonna throws the necklace into the water. The wasp goes after it. "How do you kill a wasp, etc." Doctor says "Donna, that poor thing couldn't help itself!" And Donna goes "Doctor. Neither could I."
right, but what is the significance of that? That went right over my head.(points up.)
ReplyDeleteAlso, i was beginning to think that Doctor Who was getting too childish to watch anymore, but this one was a little more risqué and less of a bore to watch. I really liked it, but wish producers would not make it quite so much of a kids' show. Whoever wrote seasons one and two needs to get their act together and work to make season five the same standard, because season four I feel is lacking.
Doctor who end of series trailer - 8PM, 24TH OF MAY...
ReplyDeleteif you pause on the silence in the library trailer right at the end theres a skeleton!!
ReplyDeletethe new trailer will be on shortly before eurovision next saturday! the bbc website will also have lots of new goodness so check it out after the trailer
ReplyDeletewill the fear forecast, new clip, digital spy hints and all that be out this week or next week?
ReplyDeletedunno it just said more stuff
ReplyDeleteOh, great episode! Loved it to bits! I rewatchted the poisoning scene 3 times :) And Doctor with arrows, Charlemagne, kidnapped by insance computer (or something along those lines): just brilliant!
ReplyDeleteI was so gleeful, figured out who the murderer was in the middle of the story, didn't know why he was turning into a wasp, of course, but still nice to be right sometimes :)
Jess, thank you so much for posting the episode!
So I take it no one else heard the masters theme?
ReplyDeleteI must be going mad.
i did
ReplyDeletebut im sure it was nothing
ReplyDeleteIbetolis: I'm afraid I didn't notice the Masters theme, but I wasn't really paying attention to the music at that point. Next time I watch it I'll have a listen.
ReplyDeleteAnd I don't know if there'll be the Fear Forcast and digital spy hints this week or next. We'll just have to keep a look out!
I loved this episode.
ReplyDeleteI have to say that in advance, when I heard about it, it was the episode I was least looking forward to.
I had worried it might be a little, well, Black Orchid.
La Tate was wonderful, and whilst it might not have been horror and violence, The Unicorn and the Wasp would certainly have had Mary Whitehouse spinning in her grave.
ahoj
jess go here http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/s4/news/latest/080517_news_01
ReplyDeleteWorst episode this seriezzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
ReplyDeleteif anyone remembers "Blink" in last season, remember martha and the doctor were running in the street with those same arrows? Perhaps it's an explanation, you know a mad computer that can travel through time, snatches Charlemagne and takes him to the future, where the doctor and martha follow, etc.
ReplyDeleteWasn't the thing in Blink a lizard (or not quite a lizard), and something was about to hatch? There doesn't seem much to connect it besides the arrows, really.
ReplyDeleteI thinkthe reference to We're not a couple is just a running gag.
ReplyDeleteI love the Doctor with the bow and arrow.
wow! I love the little thing of the skeleton you've got below the next time clip!!
ReplyDeleteBest Line "So....Flapper or slapper?"
ReplyDeleteGotta love the Donna
Donna said that she couldn't help herself. Anonymous may have discovered the Series 4 Arc word/phrase appearing in this episode. Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteBTW Jess, very nice site, and I was just wondering if you planned on putting next week's trailer up in its own post after/right before it airs?
You said there were no arcs in this episode but i have noticed something.
ReplyDeleteIn "The Doctors Daughter" the Doctor got a scar on the back of his hand from that machine that made Jenny. That scar resembled the scar in "The Empty Child" and "The Doctor Dances". But if you look at the part in TUATW when the wasp attacks them and leaves a mark on the wall that resembles the scars . . .
I'm thinking that was just a coincidence. Scratches can only look so many ways.
ReplyDeleteI will be posting the new trailer when it airs... and lots of stills... and many comments on what episode I think they're from...
ReplyDeleteYes, it shall be tones of fun!
Wow I didn't like that episode :S
ReplyDeleteSilence in the Library looks good though! Woo!
jess the trailer for the rest of series 4 is on at 6:45pm on saturday of eurovision. be sure to catch it! plus look out for more on the bbc website after the trailer is aired.
ReplyDeletehey jess love the site do you think you could put a cbox just for really important comments, not reviews of episodes but information like:
ReplyDeleteleutenent skree was in the sontaran episode and should be crossed of the encyclopedia list. if you want proof look in the book starships and spacestations by justin richards.
The sound of drums played on teh gramaphone. And in the comentary, two different story arcs were mentioned, that have been running through every episode, including this one.
ReplyDeleteermm well just writing to say on the bbc website it says that there will be a new trailer on bb1 around 6:45 of the rest of the series so there is a new trailer, just havent got it yet lol:)
ReplyDeleteand theres going to be lots of goodies on the website too:)
yays:D
x
Wait, TWO story arcs this year? Wow
ReplyDeleteThe missing bees: http://www.nypost.com/seven/05192008/news/regionalnews/the_perfect_swarm_111498.htm
