News has it, that Fox are planning to make a US remake of Torchwood!
Supposedly tackling 'global issues' as opposed to our usual slice of Welsh action, Russell T Davies is said to be writing it. Personally, a Series Four in the UK would be much better. I think we know what happens when brilliant UK television shows are remade in the US, eh?
In other (wonderful!) news, there are plans to make a new production centre in Wales for the likes of Doctor Who and Casualty! Fabulous news.
If this actually happens, suddenly Jack is very, VERY straight! (Fox...) :P
ReplyDeleteYou mean like Fringe? or X-files? or Warehouse 13?
ReplyDeleteIt will probably be a terrible idea. Though a more worldly spin on BBC shows would be interesting (it does kind of annoy me that everything happening in Dr. Who and Torchwood centers around the UK ... it doesn't make any sense at all. China is much more likely to have purposeful alien activity. But the BBC has a very specific audience to cater to, while Hollywood may on occasion cater to a far greater percentage of the world)
So did the BBC kill torchwood? one can only assume as they killed off half the cast.
If Davies writes the American versions it might be interesting, but he's going to have to alter his writing style.
What, you don't like the U.S. version of "The Office"?? haha
ReplyDeleteI will give you that American "Life on Mars" sucked though.
I'm an American...and I'm not too thrilled about this. And this would be on FOX?! Ahh! (=
ReplyDeleteOver the last Couple of days we've heard about:
ReplyDeleteBeing Human
Now your turning around and saying Torchwood.
Thank goodness MCaan(Sadly, Because I'm sure he was good, from memory its been a long time since I saw it)failed, otherwise we would be seeing a state side version of every brittish program!
Can't we be content with the origionals, or do the yanks have to pillage all of the British's decent Programs one way or another!
Not if Russell T. Davies is writing it. But I don't like this idea unless it's simply the team being moved to a new location.
ReplyDeleteDid you know that they want to use the same cast too? They want Jack Barrowman to do it? that's going to be very weird, having the same cat and everything?
ReplyDeletelol You are so rightQ I sincerely apologize on behalf of my fellow Americans. I certainly insist on another season in Wales. At least in the UK for heaven's sake!!!
ReplyDeleteyes everything goes to shit
ReplyDeleteworst thing is not being remade in the US..but being remade by "I-close-all-good-shows-half-way" Fox.
ReplyDeleteOohhhh noo!!
ReplyDeleteIt will be so bad. Let's hope it won't affect the UK Torchwood in the slightest.
Having said that, maybe they should do it in a way that the two shows exist in the same world (it's possible if RTD is still showrunner of both), as in Torchwood UK can interact and crossover on occasions with Torchwood US. That would be good. It would expand the world more as well, though I'm not sure they will do that.
Has RTD written anything for the US? I feel like he writes a little too narrowly for an American audience. I'd love to see how it goes, though.
ReplyDeleteI should clarify that when I said "Not if Russell T. Davies is writing it", I was replying to Obskur's assertion that Jack would be straight, not dissing Davies. I didn't realize my comment would come so far after.
ReplyDeleteWhat I think is that the American Torchwood if this is at all true would need to be like a spin-off to work at all or really just a continuation of the existing story... a remake would be crap... it would have to be Doctorless really on top of that... not like they could work in with Matt Smith if they already have a canon Torchwood...
ReplyDeleteHeard David was going to be in it, probs not true tho and would screw up the whole programme!
ReplyDeleteMaybe Jack found Torchwood 4?!?!
ReplyDeleteThis would NOT work imo. Fox ruins all sci fi shows. And the fact that RTD will be writing it isn't comforting at all.
ReplyDeleteOn one hand, it would be interesting. FOR ONCE, I can see it before the UK does!
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand, how would the plot go?
THE TORCHWOOD EXPLOSION AT "CHILDREN OF EARTH" WAS SO BIG THAT IT CLOSED THE RIFT. BUT, IT OPENED AGAIN IN OTHER VARIOUS PLACES, LIKE AMERICA.
Now that would be hilarous. The Torchwood team would be exploding places left and right. The U.S. government would be like "It's terrorists! It's terrorists!" Then the secretaries would tell Obama about Torchwood.
Oh THAT would be good! Jack Harkness meets Obama=flirting!
