Cold Blood!

It's official! The Silurians are back!

Actress Neve McIntosh has let slip that the lizard-esque monsters seen in the Doctor Who Series 5 trailer are, as suspected, classic series enemies The Silurians.

McIntosh will appear in episodes eight and nine of the fifth series in a two-part story written by Chris Chibnall. Part one is thought to be called The Ground Beneath Their Feet with the conclusion entitled Cold Blood.

In an interview with Perthshire Advertiser, she said, “The stories have got a bit darker. I play twins, and they’re big lizardwarrior women. They’re one of the Silurian tribes that have been undisturbed under the earth. And of course we get disturbed.”

Of course, these match up with the Set Pictures:

  3. These 2 are both pictures from the series 5 trailer. They look nothing like silurians other than being green. Their heads are closer to looking like sea devils. Keep in mind too, that when the series trailers are shown after the xmas specials, only half the episodes have been filmed. I suspect these are from an earlier story and not silurians

Are they going to hiss like last time?

  5. Ithink the key word here is *tribe* They are the same species but of a different tribe! just look at all the *varieties* of human being we have on this planet for comparison.

  6. I agree with Anonymous above. You have the classic Silurian. Then you have the Sea Devils. Sea Devils are a *tribe* of Silurian. Now we have these monsters that look somewhat similar, but different. Obviously, this seems to be a new form of *tribe* of Silurian. They're all Silurian!

  7. I'm still skeptical. As mentioned, they look nothing like the original Silurians. It would be a pretty radical redesign, although I do like the new look better than the old design (the Silurians were great in concept, but the costume design was horrible.)

Also, I wonder why some in the trailer have human-like faces when another one has a lizard face? Are people being changed into lizards?

And didn't Moffat say in Doctor Who magazine that no classic monsters were retruning this season?

  8. Although the lady in the pictures is probably Samantha Bennett, not Neve McIntosh (the director was overheard calling her "Samantha"). Maybe there's more than one "tribe" in this story.

Perhaps the Silurians are like dogs or cats, with some wildly disparate appearances, but still the same species.

  9. Or the Silurians looked better all along but our TVs weren't advanced enough to transmit them properly.

  10. Oops. Didn't realized the reptile-thing-maybe-silurian was wearing a reptile-face mask in the trailer, which explains why it looks different. That's kinda neat.

That said, where is the third eye silurians have?

  11. Silurians were land based and not really a tribe, they were genetically different.
