I hate to say this, but is this really the blog for political discussion? After all, we ARE Who fans, rather than political commentators.
As Dr Who keeps going, I’m happy.
However, I think the BBC’s public service remit means in should be kept in its current form: I think, though, that what may worrying Mr Cameron is the simple fact that, over the years, Aunty Beeb’s been notoriously left-leaning.
I think the Lib Dems might halt any attempt in the near future, considering how many other major problems have to be handled first. And even then, there might be some opposition from his new partners.
Yes this is a Doctor Who news site, and as Doctor Who is shown on and made by the BBC, it is entirely appropriate to allow people to comment on this possible policy.
The BBC isn't perfect but what large corporation is. However, if you are like me watch DW or any of the excellent dramas from Bleak House to Life on Mars etc. Or listen to the radio then you know the BBC is brilliant. Now that the Libs are there I hope he doesn't do dare do anything.
Well I'm just pissed that Waterloo road got bumped for his priministerial appointment. So help me God I would have marched up to Downing Street and slapped him in the face if he'd bumped doctor who so we could all see his smarmy face entering No. 10
The conservatives may have founded the beeb but that was before it became a 'haven for lilly-livered communists who bla bla bla bla' (read there's no private owner who's biased toward us being in power because even though we don't build any infrastructure we do quite like the rich getting richer).
"People like to forget that the Conservatives founded the BBC..." well yes, but in this current economic climate, the Tories will do anything to cut the deficit, including stopping EMA and the licence fee. Hopefully Clegg will not agree and it won't go through but it's still possible.

I have to agree here ! There are plenty of better placed websites for this kind of discussion ! Lets get back to what we know and love best...DOCTOR WHO !
The license fee has nothing to do with the deficit and is a completely separate tax which the Government. They are not going to cut a tax and as the BBC costs the Government nothing it will not get rid of it. There is a massive difference between EMA, which is another argument, and the license fee.
And I thought we Americans got crazy with how politics will effect culture. Bottom line DW is not going anywhere it will continue no matter what happens.
yeah @Nik sorry dude but this isn't star Trek although I love it was trekie before the new bloody movie. This is Doctor Who were talking about the last series ran for what 25?? Star Trek is a whole other universe
For starters, Trek fans are a hell of a lot better organised than we Who fans have been.
And, yes, your right, the original Trek didn’t last as long as the original Who.
But I think both groups can learn, each from the other.
On top of that, I’m also very aware that Dr Who — as it’s shown and made by a TV company that’s a lot more heavily influenced by the government than most commercial channels in the States — is much more vulnerable to that government influence than Star Trek.
@nick I think this is my opion if he made it the License wider like the USA buy one so we could watch online and I have seen that this group is organized say youtube if you search dw episode whatever you get that episode. I tottaly agree they could learn from each other being a Who fan and being a trekie as well
Hang on, @Peter, do you know need a tv license, in the US? I was always under the impression that the US tv networks were entirely funded by adverts … ?
@Nik No we don't but what I am trying to say is if he made it wider the t.v license to any who is willing to pay so that we people outside the UK like I am could watch there program on the site instead of having that annoying not in your area thing pop up.
Interesting thought, although I’m not sure the BBC would go for it. I think the best you can hope for, there, is improved release schedules on iTunes, at the mo!
Leave it as it is. We are mostly happy and don't want the been to get adverts and low budget shows and no banners during shows either

i may not be from the Uk but hey once they start censoring TV even more than it should be they can control what we learn and what we watch...
