The Radio Times was released today, but unfortunately, although theres about 8 pages on Davros and how they make the masks for DW, there aren't that many spoilers.
They really are keeping Journey's End a secret aren't they?

ReplyDeleteThere are actually a couple of spoilers about DAVROS in the articles (well, I didn't know about them).
Hmm, I have a thought.
ReplyDeleteEither the writer of the article is lying, has a very poor way of wording things, or just gave us proof that the Doctor will remain David Tennant and not move on to incarnation number eleven.
In describing this coming Saturday's episode, they write:
"And as the Time Lord (David Tennant) prepares for battle with Davros..." (Now, wait a minute. They can't be describing last week's episode because all he'd done was LAND on the planet. He hadn't been preparing for battle yet, so this must be a description of Journey's End's plot, *not* a recap of The Stolen Earth. And since it says "David Tennant", then it must still be David Tennant, right?)
"...he knows that a prophecy states that one of them will die." (And here's another moment where we put on the breaks. Again, this is in the same breath, so to speak, as crediting David Tennant as being the Doctor. However, it's *again* mentioning something that the Doctor as played by David Tennant last week, hadn't known yet.)
So we're left wondering which is it. Is the author lying, incapable of properly doing their job as a writer, or are they letting something slip?

ReplyDeleteI really don't believe that DT is on his way out in the next ep. I think it's being used to create suspense in order to get more viewership, and keep the fans guessing.
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't make sense that they would cancel the 2009 series if her were regenerating into another actor. They did that so DT could find time to take part in Hamlet. They want him back on Doctor Who, so they accommodated him. Besides, the guy brings in great ratings.
By the end of the week you lot will have me questioning myself....lol

ReplyDeleteIn this week's Radio Times, RTD mentions "writing dialogue for David and Catherine" (Tennant and Tate) with reference to "Journey's End". Surely this confirms that Tennant will still be the Doctor in ep 13, despite the apparent regeneration scene?
ReplyDeleteAs far as Davros' master plan, anyone remember the final Tom Baker episode Logopolis? The plot resembles what Davros was talking about. Basically, the episode revolves around a planet of mathematicians who use complex calculations to prevent the universe from dying. It's complicated, but they basically funnel excess entropy into parallel universes. When those funnels were turned off, everything started crumbling into dust and later into nothing at all. Anyway, just a thought heading into the final episode.

ReplyDeleteI agree, days are dragging by... on the other hand I just imagined how empty next week would be with no 'Doctor Who' to wait for. Well, at least we can still discuss it and wait for Prom scene and Christmas episode. Anyone knows if they're making Children in Need special this year?
No Christopher Eccleston or Paul McGann in the credits, either. Pity. It would be awesome seeing them again, McGann especially. And yet, you'd have to give them their own double episode - one not so crowded with other companions, either - to do them justice.

Query: Have they actually given out preview DVDs of Journey's End? If not, the writers are just guessing, so you shouldn't read too much into any references to Tennant. (That said, I don't imagine for a second he's leaving.)

ReplyDeleteI've had a new theory regarding DT's regeneration, unlikely as it may seem. What if DT really does regenerate, but by the end of the episode, time reverses (a la Last of the Time Lords) and the regeneration is reversed too (since it's an event in time). Hence we get a 'regeneration that never was' and DT still stays on for the christmas special and 2009 specials...

ReplyDeleteActually you're both right. :) Both Jack and the Doctor asked who the boy was. I think Jack said "Who's the kid?" and the Doctor said, "Oh, who's that boy there?"
ReplyDeleteAnd really, after thinking about it, they'd *better* bring back Ten. If Ten is gone, then I feel we were sort of robbed of a real goodbye. Just...bang, gone? No more Tennant on Doctor Who ever? They gave Rose a whole two-part episode as a goodbye, in a way. And Nine got a nice meaningful farewell. Tennant just gets shot and here comes the next guy? I don't believe it. They wouldn't do that, would they?
I don't think that they would get rid of David Tennant like that and say bye bye forever. Being killed by one Dalek who happens to be there while he runs in slowmotion towards is long lost love is not a great ending for such a great Doctor. It would be a cheesy death. But let's wait and see.
ReplyDeleteBut even if this would be the case, denying David Tennant his role in the big finale wouldn't make much sense. Russell T Davies said that everything's been bulding up to this finale, but it's been buiding up whith David Tennant has the doctor. I think it's the greatest cliffhanger in the history of Doctor Who but I'm pretty sure Saturday he will be present for the resolution of the story. At least I hope so.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I don't think they would pull a "Wash", as I've been calling it in my head, referring to the movie Firefly where one of the main, very beloved characters just got taken out in a millisecond. No goodbye, nothing (well, except for a funeral that was held for *all* the good guys that died). Just a violent and unexpected death.
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm...not exactly sorry if I just ruined that part of the movie for anyone. It's been out for three years, for goodness sakes. :P So nyeah.
Anyway, I just can't believe they'd do that. Which likely means they haven't done it, but in the off chance that they have, I'm going to be very, very irritated.

I found it hard to accept that a lone dalek would simply shoot him down so callously, given the empire has had ample opportunity to do it time and time again. I'm sure Davros would have issued some kind of order to capture him instead... archetypal villains like that, always need the fanfare...
ReplyDeleteIt's possible he was "tagged" by the dalek, and that the apparent regeneration is actually a cleverly disguised means of transporting him to the crucible sonically - or some such means - an 'upload' perhaps. Given the clone theme, it's possible he may be swapped for a clone during the process - I'm not sure, but what we do know is that the doctor is on the crucible at some point in the next episode. A clip featuring Sarah-Jane, Mickey and Jackie suggests this.
It's also possible that he isn't in fact regenerating, but being repaired by nanobots, as people were in the episode "the doctor dances" from season one - this would certainly link-in the identical scar he has on his hand in the doctor's daughter episode.
I dont believe he is regenerating. I dont believe his daughter did either - that was the terraforming that saved her, as she was only shot through one heart - likewise the doctor was only shot on one side, they made a special effort to show that, nor did his skeleton flash as it would a normal extermination...
sorry this is convoluted - and my range of theories are jumbled... so in a nutshell, I don't think he was exterminated, and I don't think he is regenerating at all.
Yeah, my theory leans towards "He probably is regenerating, but something will interrupt it."

ReplyDeleteThere's no way Tennant is leaving. For all the reasons above (why defer Season 5 to 2009, seen filming the Christmas specials, rubbish exit, etc). I certainly favour the hand being involved in some way meaning a botched regeneration and him staying as he is. Still - if it is botched, it will be interesting to know if he has lost one of his 12 regenerations. I guess if so he would only have 2 left?
ReplyDeleteI reckon Mickey must save SJS early on in this episode - he is with her in the Crucible in Journey's End from the trailers we've seen, but wasn't in the last episode at all. Clearly she does not get exterminated in her car.

Maybe Ianto and Gwen get lucky and shoot the Dalek's eyepiece as they fire relentlessly at it before it kills them. Think about it: in TPOTW, one of the Dalek's was blinded, why can't the same happen to this one? And then something feeds on the Dalek's metal casing and it's gooey insides.

I think the Doctor might have an incomplete regeneration. Like, he thinks he's regenerating, but he only does so half way, getting a new personality but not a new face, and the next time he dies he regenerates into some one new.
