2009 Speicals

Thanks to the wonderful people on the DWF I present you with the most recently updated info on whats happening in the Whoniverse

2009 Specials

They're all very different. They're all very colourful. They hit the ground running... There are at least two alien planets, maybe more. [Choosing words carefully] I would say... how can I put this? Two new monsters... no, three! Yes, three. The Doctor is travelling alone. Each story will have a different companion... some great casting... and it wont always be a young girl.
RTD (DWM)

Format
It is confirmed by RTD that there are five specials to appear between the end of series 4 and the start of Steven Moffat's reign.
  • Christmas special - The Next Doctor
  • Easter special - Planet of the Dead
  • Maybe Novermber - Waters of Mars
  • Christmas special - the first of a 2-parter
  • New Year special - the second of a 2-parter

Writers & Directors
2 Specials will be written by RTD. Gareth Roberts and RTD are co-writing the Easter 2009 episode, and Phil Ford has been named as another co-writer. Graeme Harper is directing.

Casting
  • John Simm - Has been seen on set for the final 2-parter
  • Donna - Has been seen on set for the final 2-parter (interacts with John Simm!)
Possible Casting
  • Patrick Stewart - as a Timelord (Meddling monk?)
  • Georgia Moffet (Jenny) is reported to have confirmed her return in a special. Someone apparently quoted a script for the 2009 specials: Young Teen: Doctor! Where are you going? (Hears the cries of the Doctors Daughter)

4:17/4:18 - TBA
Written by RTD
Producer: Tracie Simpson

These two specials will form a 2-parter to end Tennant's reign.

RTD: ""The final special won't be shown for another YEAR, and I know exactly what happens. In fact, I had a phone call this morning about casting it, and we're after a couple of fantastic names for it, and one of those names is booked actually, but you'll discover who that is when we are filming it in May, because it will get out..."

RTD mentions that they're doing something fandom-y for the finale and that they're nervous about including because of the whole in-joke thing, but Julie thinks its fine

Rumors & Speculation
Regneration
We all know that the Doctor is regenerating at the end of the specials, but at the moment we have no idea how or why. Here are the rumors.
  • He will battle the Master until one dies
  • "Regeneration is a complicated process, and never as simple as it seems"
  • The aborted regeneration in Journey's End may have consequences in the specials... perhaps each incarnation can only do it one and the 10th Doctor has already used his...

The Master
We know that the Master is going to return. Apparently this was supposed to happen in Journey's End as a short cameo, but then plans were changed to bring him back later, in a much bigger way.

But we don't know what he's up to really, other that talking to Donna at one point.

There are all sorts of rumors about this flying about, so heres a list of them:
  • The Master is allied with Harriet Jones... who isn't dead, who's been in league with the Master since The Stolen Earth, who may have even been the one who picked up his ring.
  • Hes trying to be the saviour of the Time Lords.
  • He'll be in the Christmas 09 special.
  • He'll be returning with the Monk (another Time Lord) in the last special
  • He appears, creates a new world and shows it to the Doctor, who responds in horror "but what about all the people!?"
  • The Doctor and The Master both regenerate at the same time - neither wins, neither loses - but the how and why are a closely guarded secret.

The End??
Apparently, although Tennant will have finished filming the specials, he will be sticking around a little longer... There are two things. One caused a squee, and the other is fairly exciting, depends how it comes out.

(Much thanks to everyone who provided information from the DWF. We are indebted to you!)

"A rumour from "a fairly good source" says that Andy Pryor has cast DT's replacement. There was a short list of names - including one woman."

Please no about the woman even being in the short list... The Doctor becoming a woman would really suck and make no sense really. Now having a female Time Lord similar to The Doctor or something like that would be nice but female Doctor is a no-no... it would just be too big a mess up EVEN if they made it that he became a she by some mess up in regeneration.

The rest mostly sounds fantastic thoug :).

After RTD stated that Rose would 'never return' I will wait to hear "I'm leaving" come out of David Tennant's mouth before I'll listen to anything Davies has to say!

Anonymous said...

Oh cool, Tom Baker may return.

a doctor who movie yay!!! XD i'm happy now XD wooooooo!! please please be the time war please!!!!!!!!!!!!! XD XD XD

Anonymous said...

Well, in today's spoilerriffic environment, if you seriously want to surprise an audience, which is a huge part of the Doctor Who experience, you need to misdirect them.

Just thinking, 'Network won't show our big shocking reveal!' or 'The script won't leak!' is naive, and this is a better reaction than suing whoever takes spoiler pictures with a cell phone camera.

Anonymous said...

The only source to say there's a movie is the Sun... so it's just bullshit. Don't know why anyone buys their papers in the first place. -_-

Anonymous said...

I don't get it, why would DT be leaving during one of the specials next year when the idea of not having a full series next year was so that DT could go off and do other projects? Makes little sense.

Is the thing about Ace showing up pure rumour or based in solid fact?

Anonymous said...

Please let this news from The Sun be another fake. I heard they were doing things in this format so he could do other stuff, so it'd be really cruel to have him leave after they told us that.

I hope he at least stays for series 5. I'd love for him to be there when Moffat takes over.

Kelsey said...

Same here. Hah - I got to this page and skimmed through everything until it got to the matter of the 10th Doctor and Series 5. THEN I went back and read everything properly.

That'd be really interesting if Neil Gaiman writes an episode! I'm still holding out on a Joss Whedon guest writing appearance. Thingy.

Anonymous said...

This is random: Anyone else want JK Rowling to write an episode? Actually my hope is that she is in an episode: The doctor goes to ?1997? for one reason or another, and has to save a train from being destroyed by carionites or other mystically inclined aliens, while interacting with JKR.

I hope DT doesn't leave. I think he'll stay unitl at least Season 5.

Anonymous said...

EDIT: Actually, it wouldn't make sense for him to regenerate any time soon: He regenerated too recently already. Having him do it again would be too...repetitive. There needs to be at least another season in between his last "Regeneration" and the next, so I predict sometime mid to late season 6.

If you are looking for something to fill space might I suggest a section on the Audios. Most of them are first rate.

The one doctor is a favorite in our home. When Colin Baker appears in a convention in Boston this week my youngest plans to have the CD or case autographed.

If you choose not to do the audios in general might I suggest the McGann audios as there are all we have, and the BBC broadcasting them gives them a certain canonical nature that the other might not have.

Rob ...a work in progress said...

Actually RTD and the BBC have been considering the auidos canonical for some time now

Some of the polots thread and off hand comments by the Doctor refer to some of the audios

The 8th Doctor ones with Lucy are at the very least having been broadcast by the BBC

movies take a long time to make, shouldnt it be started by now?

Tardis-Tinker said...

You can't have a female Doctor because that would led to questains about re-growing (sorry couldn't think of a word) the Time Lords. And anyway, if the Doctor could be female, how come he hasn't regenerated into one yet??

I hope Geogina Moffett comes back! And Tom Baker! But i doubt Kylie will. It will be to confusing. Unless she dyed her hair and was Astrid's long-lost-sister or something back on planet Sto or something.

i hope the daleks will be in one of the specials because if the master and cybermen are going to be in it then we need daleks, we cant leave them out,
sea devils wooohoooo cant wait to see their new look

Anonymous said...

YAY!!!!!!!!!!!
At last the sea-devils are back...I hope. I hope the silurians make a comeback soon, I lovbe them.

Anonymous said...

Bringing the Daleks back after this finale would be a really stupid thing to do. I mean, they were RTD's favorite villains, so that was why they were so overused. I think it should go back to being maybe 2 or 3 episodes per Doctor with the Daleks, otherwise they lose all their menace and threat. Plus, we need some more original villains with cool designs, like Lazarus was.

Anonymous said...

It looks a dead cert that Jenny will return in Moffat's series. Davies' original idea for the Doctor's daughter was just to kill her at the end of her episode, BUT it was actually Moffat who suggested that she "regenerated" herself.
(Personally I'd love it if they brought Jenny back because I think Georgia Moffet is unfaultably gorgeous =p)

As for the specials, the companions will probably be just throwaway characters played by celebrities. i.e. Kylie (WTF?)

For me, the appeal is in the monsters and not the A-list guests.
Bring on the Silurians and Sea Devils!

Anonymous said...

Ace? Seriously? Anyone think that there's an actual chance we'll see sophie again?

StormWolf said...

Ohh, hell yeah. I'd love to see Ace again.

My problem about DT leaving is that it doesn't fit into the story (RiverSong), because she has to be able to recognize him (and there was a quite thick diary as well...) RiverSong is the Doctor's companion/well, wife or whatever... in the next season. Moffat can't write an ep with spoilers just to ignore them later. Well, RTD did. (Rose should die in a battle... o.c. she "ceased to exist" in one universe, and lives in a parallel one, but that's not what I call dying...)
Anyway... I'm looking forward to the next specials, and season;)

Anonymous said...

I wish this thing would just get cancelled already. Just to cheese you people off once and for all.

@ anonymous
If you aren't a Dr Who fan, what are you doing on this site?!

Anonymous said...

Yeah, please, no more Dalek's for a while now, they've been used too often. Unless we get a special that deals with the Time War, in which case they're part and parcel!

Anonymous said...

Hey, Jess! Thanks for posting this! I hope all is well with you? You said your life isn't too stable at the moment, I just hope it all right now.

I wanted to ask if anybody is going to the Doctor Who Proms? I'll be in London at that time and I thought of going. I don't have a ticket, so I"ll try to get one before, but I wonder if should get there 2 hours, 3 before it starts? Anyone got any ideas? Anyone wants to join me?

DarCald said...

I'm from the US and as such have no idea what the Dr Who Proms are - could someone explain what these are? (A "prom" in the US is a High School Dance that all the popular kids in school make a huge deal about - check out Buffy to see what I mean! LOL!). I also heard there's some special mini-episode or something like that filmed for the DW Proms (like the Children in Need "The New Doctor" & "TimeCrash" specials - can anyone confirm this? And what it will be about if anyone knows? I've heard the Doctor tells someone to leave the TARDIS - but heck, no one's left in there with him!
Thanks for any info!

Kelsey said...

Yeah, I'm sick of the Daleks. Actually, I'm not sick of them... I just am tired of hearing WE HAVE WIPED THEM OUT 508234237846 times and then, OH LOOK! They're back. Every damn season. "How did you survive?" "Blah blah blah." Rinse and repeat.

And I agree on the River Song thing. That would be such crap to give us that kind of look at the Doctor's personal future... and then IGNORE it. Though it is possible for River Song to first meet him as the 10th Doctor, witness his regeneration (though I'll be sad to see David Tennant leave), and then stay with the 11th Doctor for a while. This would give room for a new actor AND loads of experiences with which to fill that diary.

dan said...

Well i honestly think David will sign a deal for one year with a option for one more then he can work with Steven Moffat for one season and really leave with a great history as the doctor

Jess thanks for all the great Tidbits you gave us a whole bunch of stuff to chew on for a while its going to take a long time i booked a trip to Chicago For Chicago Tardis in November to just fill the time between seasons and i wish i could go to comic con wow talk about meeting John barrowman some day it will happen

Dan
anyone else going to Chicago ?

Iko said...

Isn't the idea that they are taking time off in 2009 for Tennant unsubstantiated rumor? I thought that I read that the time off in 2009 was across the board cutbacks in general for Team Cardiff and it is out of the break that Tennant got the stage gig. In other words, the other way around.

Anonymous said...

wow! How do u know the Masters returnin?

Unknown said...

quick note on the movie rumor: if DT is in it then it can't be about the time war. chronologically it would have to be either McGann or Eccleston, if not both, that appear in that storyline.

but it would be pretty frickin awesome. I'd love to get that bit of the story in an expanded visual medium. especially so we'd know exactly what it meant for the daleks and time lords to "burn", though personally I think it likely is something similar to what Bad Wolf Rose did to the Daleks, since she told them to "burn" as she destroyed them.

Sageeth said...

"But i doubt Kylie will. It will be to confusing. Unless she dyed her hair and was Astrid's long-lost-sister or something back on planet Sto or something."

How do you think it got that colour in the first place? lol. Her natural color is brown. I'm not fan of hers personally, quite the opposite (my father however adores her...) but her role as Astrid was far more than I expected of her (but that wasn't much).

Kelsey said...

I dunno... somehow I doubt that they could really convey powerfully enough the scale of the Time War. I think while it would be neat to see IF they could pull off something of that scale... well, I just don't think they COULD pull off something that massive and do it so well... it's been left to the imagination for so long that any realization would just be a disappointment. That wasn't the case for the Lord of the Rings movies, but I don't think the BBC could work that kind of magic. I just don't. Not only would it be massive, it'd have to be brilliantly acted, amazingly scripted, devastatingly - DEVASTATINGLY - emotional... and they would have to figure out the details of the Time War itself. The last two would be the biggest challenges. I really don't think they could do the idea justice, since they don't even have the details. With The Lord of the Rings, they had massive amounts of source material and beautiful dialogue at their fingertips. With Doctor Who, they would have to come up with EVERYTHING on the spot.

Anonymous said...

It would be better if they had characters to work with, but all they have is the Doctor, and can't use Rose or Martha or Donna or anybody recent.

Anonymous said...

well, we still have Moffat, and his scripts are brilliant. But you are right with everything else...

Only one question. I know that's a weird thought, but theoretical DT is also the 11th Doctor..., now, after regenerating... isn't he?

Anonymous said...

If the rumours of Ace's return are true, then might she be coming back as one of the last time agents? (she could be on the trail of Captain John Hart, allowing James Masters to appear in one of the specials too)

I'm basing this speculation off of the fact that they seem to have been borrowing heavily from the books & audio dramas recently.

In the expanded whoniverse the Doctor had intended for Ace to attend the Prydon Academy and become a (in terms of knowledge and training) Timelady.

She got fed up of him manipulating her life & set off on her own, joined an organisation called 'Spacefleet' and eventually became a mercenary known as the "Time's Vigilante" using a time-hopping motorcycle fitted with an unnamed time-travel device which gave every appearence of being a vortex manipulator.

It certainly isn't stretching one's imagination to consider that Ace may have been recruited from Spacefleet by the time agency and then become the Vigilante upon its disbandment.

This could lead to renewed conflict between Ace and the Doctor, as the first thing he'd do upon meeting her again would most likely be try to disable her vortex manipulator, just like he did (twice) to Captain Jack's.

Unlike Jack, Ace ain't totally 'whiped when she's around the Doctor, and wouldn't stand for him flexing his arrogance and temporal elitism like that.

can't wait for series 5 one reason because steve moffat writing most of the series and he wrote my favourute double episode (empty child / the doctor dances) AND blink...both of which in my opinion were the scariest of all episodes so far (new series).

Anonymous said...

STILL conflicted about rose and her lovely human doctor:
^she can't have adventures as this doctor doesnt have a tardis ;(
^^as it's been sorted she probably won't return todoctor who again

also the doctor still needs to love rose for a while however because of riversong we know he'll find love else where which will be awfully wierd considering that he's meant for rose in the new series'viewers' minds. well i can't imagine a doctor who doesn't love rose.

arrghh. confused...i should really get a life. :)

Combom said...

he does have a tardis, the real doctor gave him a chunk of the tardis, which grew into a new one, the tardis is a living entity btw

Anonymous said...

Wouldn't that be like ripping someone's hand off in order to grow another version of them?

Unknown said...

"Wouldn't that be like ripping someone's hand off in order to grow another version of them?"

And that's completely unheard of. [/sarcasm]

Personally, I hope that DT stays on for awhile after the specials. I'm not overly familiar with the classic Who, but he is by far my favourite Doctor.

And I am so excited for Moffat to be taking over, I love RTD, But Moffat always manages to write really terrifying stories. I'm also psyched for even the slightest possibility of Neil Gaiman writing an episode (or two, or more) as he is one of my favourite authors.

Sageeth said...

"he does have a tardis, the real doctor gave him a chunk of the tardis, which grew into a new one"

Well it will grow into a new one. That takes time and it has already been stated in the past that Jack also has a piece of Tardis and is growing one but it will take a long time. Can't remember exactly where I got that though, I think one place was John Barrowman talking in something.

Anonymous said...

the grow another tardis thing was something originally scripted, but never filmed. so, in terms of on-screen events, it never happened. furthermore, it would do jack no good to grow one because a tardis requires a time lord to operate. some have operated the controls, but only with the doctor himself in the tardis (castrovalva, two doctors, etc).

on another note, it seems to me that they need to bring back the time lords and gallifrey. make them uber-cool as they were when they first appeared (war games) no the incredibly stupid version they became (five doctors, arc of infinity, etc). rtd gave us the perfect vehicle - parallel worlds. have the gallifreyan society of another universe be in mortal danger because of some massive threat and to save themselves shunt over into 'our' universe. they can be reset in terms of tone because they are from a 'different' universe (this is what they did with the cybermen). hmmm . . . maybe i should write that story ;-)

Anonymous said...

David Tennant could not star in the movie if it was the time war as Christopher Ecclestan was the newest face of the doctor since the time war.

If he unlocks the timewar and goes back to that period of time, surley its a paradox?

Anonymous said...

more than likely, the time war was waged by a mcgann doctor. it's possible that tennant could pull a dalek caan and penetrate the time loop. it wouldn't be the first time the doctor's different incarnations have interacted with the previous "younger ones" seeming to not remember it. the movie could end with the doctor being injured and regenerating as a result of his actions to end the war. it's a shame that while mcgann served as the doctor for six years he's only been seen in the tv movie. it would be really cool to see him and tennant together!

btw, have fun in costa rica (or good luck, depending on why you're going :-); awesome site

TIME LORDS!!!! The claim that 'They're back!' It's got to be Time Lord society back thru some offshoot of the Davros scheme.

Would be nice to draw a veil over the whole DT 'Last of the Time Lords' lament.

Imagine how bad arse it could be to make them the antagonists of the next series. They're back, but not as we know it.

Unknown said...

yea I could see them bringing back the Time Lords. I imagine it would've taken them a lot of maneuvering I'm sure, as its been a huge part of the storyline so far. I will say, if it happens, it certainly can't be a parallel universe bit, the Time War has certainly canceled out that line of progression I think. the cybermen weren't one of the primary players in the Time War so their survival is a completely different entity. clearly though dalek caan's means of survival does allow the possibility.

the only thing I'm struggling to figure out is doing so without the Doctor losing his mind. perhaps setting it up as an unforeseen consequence of Davros and the daleks making it out? it follows from the finale that caan didn't reveal everything. or perhaps it was something his "foresight" didn't encompass? lots of interesting trains of speculation from this one.

Sageeth said...

"it would do jack no good to grow one because a tardis requires a time lord to operate"

Doing him no good or not it is a fact he has a piece of Tardis Coral as they call it.

"The 28 October 2006 Radio Times, in an image of the Torchwood Three headquarters, identified a piece of large coral on Captain Jack Harkness's desk as the beginnings of a TARDIS. John Barrowman, who plays Jack in Torchwood and Doctor Who confirmed that "Jack's growing a TARDIS... It's probably been there for 30 years. I suppose in 500 years he'll be able to begin the carving process"."

Anonymous said...

seen as jack is more than likely to be the face of boe could the face of boes container be a tardis???? remember a tardis can change shape!!!

p.s. i am writting a story about the Doctor and River song

Anonymous said...

Well actually Tardis tinker they were thinking that Astrid found a tardis and was able to blend into it and then track down the Doctor for 100 yrs of his time. Agian i have no proof but it seems logicol!

Anonymous said...

I think if DT decides to leave and finish with Doctor who then ther is nothing BBC can do about it. personally I hope he continues well on into season 5 finishing with a death/regeneration that does not include any of the following creatures: Darlek, Cybermen, slythene! i think we have all well anbd truely had enough of the darlek's for the time being bring them back in a couple of years as a mutent race on Clom in like the year 3billion.

As for a Female Doctor how fantastic would that be maybe he could then go and have some male companions cause in the new series there are very few other than Mickey smith and Captain Jack! I say Go for it BBC a femail would be nice although she should only last 1 season.

And have a great holiday!

have a good tiime jess, i just wanted to present this possibility if catherine tate wanted to come back as donna, when she became half time lord do you know that big green ring she was wearing could have absorbed the other human half of her that remembered the doctor. but imagine if the ring was alien that she purchased on chan cheng the chinese planet from turn left. after all the ring was shining in donnas last scene in the kitchen. but what if she openen the ring and unleashed her other human side, its a bit hard to follow but its like the scene in Utopia.

(Reliable) word is spreading that the Sea Devils or the Zygons may be returning at some point in the 2009 Specials or in the 2010 series. YAY! But I still hope the Daleks find a way around complete destruction again.

Anonymous said...

Maybe they always come back because someone set up something to keep them from dying: the RSPGCDDL.

Royal Society for the Prevention of Genocide to Creatures that Don't Deserve to Live. :P

Anonymous said...

I think that RTD has over used the Daleks.I remember how in the old series they would have at least a year or two between apperances but appearing every series is way to much.It would be cool to bring back the zygons or sea devils.Or maybe Siliurians

Anonymous said...

The Daleks appearing once per series /is/ a year's gap between appearances. I imagine this would be far less noticeable if there were, say, a week or two's gap between every episode.

I do, however, agree that they need resting - until something new can be brought to the table. More Dalek stories like Manhattan / Evolution, too, rather than putting them in the series finale. The problem with the Daleks is that in every season finale they turn up in such great numbers that some "magic" solution has to be found to wipe them all out at once; there's no suspense whatsoever because you know some one-off plot device will be used to spirit them all away. Ultimately, Daleks are like ninjas: Less is more.

The Daleks will never be completely wiped out, anyway; it happened like three times in the classic series alone, ignored each time.

Anonymous said...

Why the hell do they have to bring every bloody character back. it would be crap if donna returned

DarCald said...

Oh I'd love Donna to come back!!! I admit I was initially skeptical about her being the Full Time S4 Companion - but with the first episode was totally won over. I think Catherine Tate is a fantastic actress and she was able to bring Donna full circle - from clueless, self-involved loud mouth in Runaway Bride to someone who grew up quite a bit and realized just how lacking her life was and what she had passed up in dclining the Doc's initial invite. I absolutely loved Donna from that point on - and was upset that her departure meant she went back to "early" Donna. I would love for her to come back for another season - or more (we really need a companion to bridge regen's for when David Tennant does go - though I hope that's a long way away!). :-)

BRING BACK DONNA!!! :-)

Anonymous said...

um i ho/pe they dont do a movie becuase then it might be like thecompleat fail of the one hollywood made. the one who they didn't even count into the regenoration count......and i mean realy! just plain sucked....

StormWolf said...

As much as I absolutely adored Donna, it would kinda kill the story. It would seem odd to say that she'd die if she remembered, and then just bring her back the next year.

Jenny would be fun. I have this amusing image in my head of Jenny coming back and meeting Jack. I'd love to see the Doctor go into protective father mode.

Also, if the rumor about Paul McGann is true, (and really, I consider nothing true until I see it come directly from the Who crew or the BBC) that would be wonderful. Despite being in a mess of a movie, he was a brilliant Doctor, and it would be good to give him another chance to portray him on-screen.

Anonymous said...

It would be awesome if there was a story when the Doctor travels to a fictional universe somehow and interacts with characters from famous books. Like Harry Potter and the Carrionites, or the Timelord of the Rings, it would be awesome to see Sauron in Dalek-form, in fact Sauron looks a bit like a Cyberman!

Anonymous said...

Replying to StormWolf

I agree according to the final episode of series 4 donna would die if she heard of the doctor!

If she does return she has to die slowly kind of like her loosing memory then she should sacrifice herself to save the world from the master

Anonymous said...

Me again

The masters ring was taken by either harriet jones or the master

If harriet jones was working for the master she may have revived him using the lazarus machine from series 3!

The daleks shouldn't return for series 5 as it would make them appear in every series of doctor who!

Anonymous said...

You want spoilers? Here's the REAL deal. I was eating in a Cardiff restaurant called Casanovas and noticed DAVID TENNANT and RUSSEL T DAVIES eating at the back of the room. I couldn't help but overhear what they were talking about. They were having an argument about the THIRD SPECIAL. Russel is bringing back the SILURIANS like he said he wanted to after series 4 ended. But David wants him to change the special's ending to give a bigger part to a sexy Silurian whose actress he is dating.

DarCald said...

So - if what the above post says is true - are DT and GM no longer an "item"? Unless of course the Dr's Daughter would play a Siluri...that's the other thing, I thought the Sea Devils were coming back, not the Silurians? Or is it a team up like Warriors of the Deep? Will they arise from Cardiff Bay? :-)

Anonymous said...

First off, to anyone who thinks the McGann Doctor or the US made movie doesn't count? Sorry, but it IS cannon. Multiple ways of finding that one out, so sorry if you hated it, it's part of the mythos.

As for the specials, I would adore it if they could bring back Donna, though how they would do it is beyond me, though I'm sure some head spinning 'logical' (and I use the term loosely...) leaps and bounds will be performed. And out of anyone from the classic series that it would be awesome to see again, it would have to be the Brig. Yeah he's getting a reapearance on SJA, but it's the interaction between him and the Doctor that was just amazing.

Look guys we can speculate all we want, but no one will know what truly happens until the Specials are screened.

Half of this stuff if it happened would be great, but is it likly to happen.

Anonymous said...

i think all the donna stuff isnt true
the doctor said if she ever learnt about him she would burn

Anonymous said...

They could find a way to stop Donna from burning out if she comes back.

Anonymous said...

they should find a way to slot the daleks in without the daleks destroying the world. i dont know what else thhey would do but im sure rtd and jg can think of sumfin

Anonymous said...

We've had enough Daleks in series 1 through 4. I don't think they are going to bring the Daleks back in the specials.

Anonymous said...

true
i think rtd wants to give it a rest, they are running out of ways to kill the daleks. they seem to bring back 1 or 2 old enemies each seasons so expect to see some old enemies, including the sea devils and possibly the zygons

Anonymous said...

i wonder if the sea devils will look different

Anonymous said...

I still say we've had enough of Daleks. We do not need them in the 2009 specials.

Anonymous said...

As David Tennant is leaving after the specials and he has said he will film 4 of them in 2009, then its pretty certain that the final special most likely the Christmas 2009 Special will contain the REGENERATION of the 10th Doctor into the 11th Doctor.
This is not mindless specualation, it is 100% true as DT admitted he was leaving after 2009 and would not star in the 5th Series!

Anonymous said...

well looks like tennant's off. reli hope he doesn't go he brought a real charisma to the doctor.

i agree daleks shouldn't be brought back for a while. Getting a bit predictable although Journey's End was the best Dalek story yet.

Umm just a possibility probably wrong but is it possible River Song remembers a PARALLEL 10th doctor which explains the diary? Perhaps she is visited by PARALLEL doctor and is visited by DT in SITL.

Anonymous said...

Blacktear makes a good point. Although there are the 4 2009 specials, which some people claim that one of them will be a two-parter. Maybe the two-parter will have a special companion. Maybe River Song??

And what of Jack Harkness, they cant really bring him back now can they? Think about it, he has appeared in all the final episodes, which is sort of becoming a bore. He should stay at Torchwood and if the Doctor needs him, the Doctor should visit him.

Anonymous said...

thanks aaron...

anyway wasnt there a mention from queen elizabeth during the shakespeare code that the doctor is her worst nemesis? there are clearly gaps to be filled.

also if we consider my idea, an older DT visits River Song. Seeing as DT ages slowly, it is possible that River Song meets Rose's Doctor, who being a human ages normally?

Mixed feelings for Time War possibility. Good because it'll be interesting to watch, but bad cause there's DALEKS!

Anonymous said...

I certainly believe they will bring back River Song before DT regenerates. A bunch of cryptic things RTD and SM have said indicate that we certainly haven't seen the last of River Song (actually we have, and now we're going to see the first of River Song). DT meeting River Song at the end of her timeline first and then having her meet him for the first time in the specials (or season 5) maybe is just the kind of thing SM would do, and it would be the perfect way to connect RTD's era of Doctor Who with SM's, so they're not separate. It's going to be a pretty clean break with season 5, as the head writer, lead actor, companion, producer, and other dudes are changing out. River Song might just be a connecting thread, and an ingenious one at that.

Just to be pedantic - the TimeLords actually only have 12 regenerations for a total of 13 Lives/13 Incarnations. This often gets confused, or at least mis-stated. For example, the Fifth Doctor was on his 4th regeneration (as stated explicitly in "The Five Doctors"). So the nth Doctor is always on his nth - 1 Incarnation. This was even confused in the TV Movie and they had to dub over the 8th Doctor stating he had "13 regenerations". So 12 regens, 13 lives. If he tries to regenerate whlst in his 13th incarnation, it will kill him ("The Twin Dilemma" where Azmael triggers a regeneration whilst being possesed to kill the invading enemy). Now, it would appear that regeneration can be controlled and that the Time Lord has some control over his/her appearance ("The War Games" where the Time Lords give the Doc a choice of looks for his next incarnation; "Destiny of the Daleks" where Romana tries on bodies). It could be the Doctor either isn't able to do this as well as the other Time Lords (he did flunk out of the Academy apparently) or perhaps it has to do with his regenerations almost always occurring as the result of violent injuries and thus he isn't conscious enough to do this (or possibly just doesn't care that much about his appearance and leaves it to chance). This could be related to the "15 hours afer a regeneration" as scene in "The Christmas Invasion" whereby he was able to instantly grow a new hand; perhaps Romana was able to modify her form since it was within this 15 hour window (before the regeneration engery is exhausted?) before the form becomes stable.
Of course, should the show last that long (and we all hope it does!) then I'm sure our Doctor will either find he is somehow "special" and has been granted more regen's, the rules that were in place before no longer apply since Gallifrey is no more, or perhaps he will simply somehow get a new life cycle (as was offered to the Master in "The Five Doctors" by the TimeLords - again implying it is not an inherent biological trait of Time Lords but one that is the result of technology - which would be in keeping with the regeneration equipment seen in "Underworld" (and one wonders why the Master didn't simply go steal a regen bed from the Minyans if it was this simple!). :-)

Anonymous said...

can i just say that although DarCald correctly pointed out about the 13th regen being merntioned in twin dillema, i thought he said that NEARLY every time lord is killed by it...

okay, here is what I want from the first 2 2008/2009 specials. I will post the next 3 soon.

Special 1: Christmas 2008
-The Next Doctor
The 10th Doctor meets who seems to be the 11th but is an imposter with gold cybermen, normal, and black faced with brain showing! Miss hartigan is the leader. Big extreme shock at end to lead into Easter, possibly Paul McGann's TARDIS lands in David Tennant's

Special 2: 12th April (Easter) 2009
-The Time War
The 8th Doctor is injured in the TARDIS. The 10th Doctor helps him and together they are transported directly from the TARDIS onto a desert planet. They are both seperated and the 10th Doctor meets Winston Churchill on the planet. The 8th is locked in a chamber and finds out about a jewel that gives eternal life. The chamber is on some sort of space complex where all of a sudden Margaret Thatcher, Tony Blair, Harriet Jones (who s alive) and other prime ministers arrive. The 10th Doctor then realises he is on Gallifrey and it is the time war. Thee 8th Doctor explodes the jewel causing the 8th Doctor to regenerate but Harriet Jones keeps him from doing so, she is evil. The 10th Doctor stops this and she escapes back to Earth. As the 8th Doctor is traumatised by this he loses his memory of meeting the 10th Doctor and then regenerates into the 9th. Christopher Ecclestone will make a brief cameo.

Now some of this may sound daft but in my opinion I wouldn't mind watching these. Also, I would love it if they were all 90 minutes each. That would be (in the words of the Doctor himself) FANTASTIC.

Anonymous said...

The whole thing sounds daft, why would all of those Prime Ministers suddenly arrive in one place and time, and wtf is that about a jewel that gives eternal life. Can't you come up with anything more original than that ?!?

Anonymous said...

okay the jewel is one of the words that will appear in the episode along with chamber and fly. that's why i thought up that crazy story. forget that stuff about the prime ministers or maybe it's something to do with the master returning as he was one. but that's just confusing. so forget that. winston churchill could be in the next special and let's just say the second special might go something like this-

They are both transported to a desterted planet (not desert as in sand) they walk to a beach where the waves have frozen over. upon declaring that is beautiful both Doctor's see that the ice is cracking a large submarine spaceship thing rises from it and flies off into the sky taking the 10 th doctor with it. The 8th doctor stays behind and sees sea devils marching up the beach. he runs up the mountain falling into a hole ith a tribe of people. he learns about a 'jewel' that had been stolen from them by the sea devils. the 10th doctor is on the ship where he meets other prisoners. they were all arrested for their powers. one could 'fly', one could talk to the dead and the other could see the future. they arrive at the shadow proclamation where all of the aliens from the last few series are (like what was supposed to happen in the stolen earth and what david tennant asked RTD to write in) there. the doctor finds out that the judoon were investigating a jewel missing. the 10th doctr knows about the jewel. he says it is a legend of the time war. what caused the eruption of kilbrikiar in the South of Gallifrey. (or something) The Doctor escapes commondering a Judoon ship with all the prisoners on board. one of them becomes his temporary companion. the 8th doctor is rescued by the 10th and they both find out where the jewel is. in the sea devils layer. they go down and in a brief battle claim it. it has enough energy to power the TARDIS up again, conveniently! the TARDIS is then suddenly drawn towards Gallifrey. The exit and witness the beginning of the Time War. After a bunch of mumbo jumbo about time locks and explaining why they were drawn there they head back to the TARDIS only to be captured by Daleks. They are taken to the South and need the jewel. The doctor tries to find out why but fails then suddenly his temporary companion flies down and saves them. they get in the TARDIS and look outthe doors to see the destruction of the time lords and daleks. they become part of the battle and after a big fight they all end up back in the south by a generator. A dalek catches them and tells them it will destroy gallifrey. the 8 th doctor chucks out no.10 and the temp comp. and locks them outside the door staying with the dalek who starts the process. 8 explains he can make it smaller but for them to get out of there. they do so and 8 uses his sonic screwdriver to old it. a countdown goes down to 10 and the dalek uses emergancy temporal shift (it's the one in 1:6-Dalek) and then ends up in America in 2012 near Henry Van Stattens Base. Doc 8 gets a un out of 8 seconds but gets blasted and regenrates. the powers of the jewel wipes his mind of the last 24 hours. he then regenrates in Christoper Ecclestone and collapses. Doctor 10 has saw this he walks up to him and then walks back to the TARDIS. As 10's Tardis dematerialises 8's TARDIS appears. The Doctor is in the TARDIS with TC. The Doctor tells the tribe that the Sea Devils are defeated but so is the jewel and that they should stop hiding. He then walks down the TARDIS stairs and types some numbers on a big screen the pushes a lever and says "Locked, time locked" He takes TC to her planet (she is not from planet with sea devils on and she didn't tell him her power yet) He takes her to some strange planet and leaves her saying goodbye. After he is gone she lifts her watch and sees a 3d hologram of the Master and says. I did it master i placed the device in the TARDIS, to which he replies Very good Rani. Suddenly in the TARDIS something shocking happens and then it's over!

Is that better. I think so. Tell me what you think I could change and I will. Yes, this is a much better story!

I thought the Sea Devils were from Earth, not an alien planet. Also, how could the Dalek be the same one from 'Dalek', surely it would have mentioned meeting the Doctor before in that episode ? It never ended up near Van Statten's Base, it fell to Earth on Ascension Island (or something) 50 years previously.

Anonymous said...

okay, the dalek from dalek DID end up on some ascension island in 1962 where he lost his memory after a bad temporal shift leaving him powerless for many years until he is found and taken to Van Statten's base where he tortures it. maybe that wipes his memory. then he meets the 9th doctor and rose and kills itself. BANG! And the Sea Devils only ended up on that planet after Earth was to explode in the year five billion (and five) they were transported (along with all living things) after hibernating (before the events of 2084) in a secret cave somewhere. they were a seperate group fro the other sea devils and... er, oh just say I meant Silurians. Any other mistakes?

niot bad, i heard that 4.16 has words Emily, pipes, carrots, legend gadget and concerto and the line "the map of the Water Snake Wormholles" and Davd Morrissey isn not a conman. he is a real doctor and doesn't recognise himself because he lost his memory. David Tennant don't recognise him like Peter Davison didn't recognise him.

Anonymous said...

thanks i'll hav a go at writing 4.16 and contain the words eily pipes gadget concerto legend gadget and cocerto and fit in the line the map of the water snake wormholes. i have the same issue and it also says the easter special title is not 'The Time War' as I predicted but has 4 words and one of them starts with D. We'll find out on cHRISTMAS. I'll write the next few soon. maybe some futuristic space thingy or...? Oh but I know what I'm gong to do for teh final special! Oh boy is THAT gonna make you excited... i hope. if anyone got any ideas and would like me to write a script for them just ask. i'll write a script for the specials aswell. and the easter one! by the way i will now be calling myself Bad Wolf. This is Anonymous who wrote the ideas ffor the special.

Anonymous said...

Can't you just post your 'ideas' on one of those crap fan-fiction sites ?

Anonymous said...

come on my 'deas' ren't that crap Anonymous, thanks DWFan. Russel T Davies said there will be 3 new monsters but there may be old ones. I've got a good plot for 4.18 but not 4.16 yet. Ad come on my ideas aren't bad, well the first draft of 4.15 was but, anyway, my guess for the title of the Easter special is The ____ D_____ ______ whats yours? Can anyone think of the best title for 4.15 - All will be revealed in 13 days. Have a guess. Anyone who guesses the answer (which is highly unlikely) within the next 7 days (up to Friday 19th) can buy me as a slave! ha! Anyway have a guess. See who can think up the best title!

This is a wild stab in the dark. If they're filming for the next special in Tunisia, and it's co-written by Gareth Roberts, I wonder if it'll be an adaptation of Roberts' New Adventure, 'The Highest Science. That involved humans being transported to a distant planet. I'd love to see the Chelonians appear in the TV series as they only appeared in Virgin's New and Missing Adventures.

Planet Of The Dead? That suggests everyone on it is dead, or was in a death state. Could be zombies, could be Skaro, could be Gallifrey... But, knowing Russel T. Davies, it will be a planet we've never heard of before with aliens with really long tongues, because they test well with the toy buying 6 - 12 crowd.

Sorry, just a little bitter after, once again, the Cyber-Men were made to look incredibly lame. So far, taken down by Mickey Smith and Miss Hartigan with no real trouble - and pairing them against four Daleks who made them run away? Yawn. Can we please have one of the specials or a Steve Moffat series ep' be "Cyber-War", where the Mondas Cyber-Men show up and go, "Your over-use of the word 'delete' betrays how weak you really are. That will not be tolerated."

I mean, "delete"? Really? "Delete"? How scary is that? They sound like robotic board moderators.

"This post will be DELETED!"

Oh, and did you all realize - either The Doctor and Rosita are deaf, Russel T. Davies is really lame, or - and I prefer to believe this one - they really do have a stealth setting on their shoes! Ha, ha, ha! Awesome. The Daleks get to fly, the Cyber-Men get to tip-toe in from a night-out. Can you imagine them activating the stealth setting?

They see the target.

"Activating stealth feet program."

Target hears them, sees them, runs away.

"My inability to know when to shut up has again cost us again!"

Hey, here's a great idea for one special - The Doctor gets sucked through a hole in time and space to our reality, where he has to stop Russel T. Davies causing himself to regenerate and result in them casting James Nesbitt as the new Doctor.

Oh, and my vote for the next Doctor: either Andy Nyman, Paddy Considine, or (fave choice) Chiwetel Ejiofor.

I sincerely hope that the Master of Donna doesn't return. They have both ment to have left, I hate it when someone returns when we are sure they are not ment to.

Responding to a comment from back in July:
"And I agree on the River Song thing. That would be such crap to give us that kind of look at the Doctor's personal future... and then IGNORE it."
The Classic Who serial "Battlefield" made it clear that some future Doctor would go back into a parallel Earth's past and become Merlin. That bit of foreshadowing comes from 1989, and we're still waiting for it to happen.

Try to prove that it hasn't happened already.

I'm sure they'll get to it sooner or later and might even reference it, but there is no evidence either way until something is put up there. And on the same note, The Valeyard...

The knocker is the Watcher, he will knock on four different occasions, on the forth knock Tennant's song (time as the Doctor) will end.

The Master 2.0 said...

at the bottom of the page (about tennant sticking around for a little longer) - whats that all about???

Jess said...

It was hinted at by a couple of people on the DWF... I've got no idea what its about but I guess there might be something more with Tennant... Children in Need special perhaps?

The Master 2.0 said...

thanks - this could turn out to be interesting...

robert said...

I have a theroy of who the knocker may be, what was the creature from Midnight? we still don't know that one and what is badwolf anyway? it Can't be Rose. My idea is the 'it' that is coming out of the darkness could be the actual Badwolf.

And another thing we could have a happy ending where Donna gets married but on seeing the doctor she beings to burn so the doctor rushes over to her and absorbs all her bad engery (Just like the Ninth Doctor did for rose) and then he collasps where apon Jack bends over to him and carrys him to the doctor( so not to cause alarm) but the doctor stands back up. he is just about to leave possibly with jack until Donna walks up to the Doctor (changes into Gillian Anderson (The Rani?) shoots him with her ring and disaperers laughing. the Tenth doctor Falls to the ground where apon to startled people amazment regenerates into Matt smith. Who stands up relizes the Rani is still out there, says a few words to Jack? and rushes into the Tardis

Excuse me for give this weried thery but i would like the Rani to return but as for the death it could be anything

we will just have to wait seven months.

Anonymous said...

so whos this monk time lord then? are we all thinkin it to be played by hopefully patrick stewart? i think when the doctor collapses/kneels outside the tardis from the clip at the end of the waters of mars it could be him havin trouble with his timelordness, like in the five doctors, or him feeling the presence of another timelord/lady or him just hallucinating (hence the appearance of the ood)

Wow doesnt it all seen interesting

also the "he will knock 4 times" - the masters beat dah dah dah dum, dah dah dah dum

The Rani returning would be nice, so would the Monk... Can't wait to see how it all fits together.

If you go on the Kasterbourous website there is a picture of David Tennant standing next to the master himslf John Simms and Timothy Dalton in Timelord robes.
(I'm not making it up) So all those rumors of TD being in it are true but is he a good timelord or a bad one. Could he be Omega?

But if the Time lords are back. it looks like the whole time war story was a load of rubbish. But I think the Rani is behind it all.

According to the Sun online website Timothy Dalton will be playing a judge who puts the doctor on trail (Sounds Fimall)

ANd John simns is back in it. But is he playing the master again? Or could there be a meta-cris Master walking about? Or it looks like to me the master has come back along with Galifray (Galifray is the IT that will come through the dark) but it is from a alterative time line where the Doctor was quite diffrent, or another thery is the master has made the timelords think the doctor is bad!

It will be very confusing! and if the Rani is back the new doctor may go after here from causing trouble!

We will just have to wait until later this year to find out.

Anonymous said...

I have news from a source close to Stephen Moffatt. The final episodes of series 5 due in 2010 will be a "5 doctors" type story.
Doctors 7 to 11 will be involved although not all signed up yet!
SM, DT and obviously MS have said yes. PM and CE thinking about it.
Please, please, please let this be true!

Anonymous said...

With regards to the reason for regeneration. I recall that the Second Doctor was forced to regenerate because he abused his position as a Time Lord. The Doctor's actions at the end of 'The Waters of Mars' suggested that he may have expected to die as a result of his disregard for the laws of time, possibly. This is only speculation, but the thought is strong in my mind.
