Who is she? What caused it? Who caused it? Why did it happen?!
So who is River Song, and why is it so bad? Who caused the TARDIS to explode? What was the reason behind it?!
The episode boasted the magic of time-travelling to an extent we have never seen before, and Moffat's writing made sure it didn't jump the shark. The technical details laid since The Eleventh Hour finally came to light - and it was surprising at how it bonded together. The wedding scene was slightly off-white in contrast to the rest of the story, but the mysterious telephone call made up for it! Who is on the other end, I wonder?

I didn't like it as much as I thought I would. A bit hard to follow. And it irritates me it's carrying to next season.
I personally thought this was the best finale, and up until know, Doomsday was. It was incredibley smart, but I agree with greenpanda, I had been waiting for answers for a while, only to be told we would find out next season! Oh well, onward to Christmas!!!
ok here goes
Omega, the only other time lord caused the tardis to blow up, knowing how the doctor would fix it,
thus resetting everything including gallifrey etc
River knows the doctors name, thus maggage if only gallifrey is around again, hence thats why she said everything changes,
ok thats my take,,
the big bang 2 is total reset????? clever
The queen was on the other end of the phone. He says 'Your Majesty' :)
I was wondering if River was an alternate Doctor at one point!!
I'm hoping for some clues at Xmas... also in the episode the other week when he said someone was making a TARDIS who could that be??
But Greenpanda and Anonymous, its good to have a series finale where we do find out more. Under RTD everything ended in each series and so begun with a new companion etc each season. This one actually makes you want to find out about it all next
I have to admitt that I'm a bit confused with the finale... Isn't there certain things need to be explained like the 3rd floor on Amy's house (did I skipped that??) or who is Prisoner Zero (which I thought was the Doctor but was never mentioned!!)???
As for River... I've read a few theories that could work but the fact that she knows his read name is confusing me. She could be the Doctor in the future or one of his companions - though I don't really appreciate the first.
I hope Moffat has a great idea for the next series 'cause this finale got me really confused... However, I hope Amy and Rory to remain with him as companions instead of only Amy...
Anyway... I still love the Doctor and can't hardly wait for a new season...
I agree with the last post it does make you want to find out about the next episode/series, now I didn't like the episode at first, but after watching it again I love it, especially amy bringing the doc to the wedding. I thought the Valeyard was involved and I still think he is, cause I remember reading something that the regeneration limit would be sorted out this season, I do like the reset that happened because it gives chance for galifrey to be back, but like i said I think the Valeyard is the big bad, River song is clearly the docs wife imo but I could be wrong
DSNAKE301
I agree, the finales have been great but this one was brilliant, it answered some questions and not all of them it ended on a great cliffhanger and it doesn't have a companion leave at the end so i can't wait for xmas and the next series. Great job steven moffat! by dwswh
Can someone PLEASE tell me how the Doctor got out of the Pandorica in the first place in order to give himself the Sonic Screwdriver to open the Pandorica?
Also, what was the point of the Pandorica if it could be opened by a Sonic Screwdriver, which is now pretty much a magic wand?
To assume that "Your majesty" was reffering to the Queen, is being very presumptuous. I imagine the Queen you are reffering to is not QE2 but QE10. However as this seems to be a complete reset, "Your Majesty" maybe reffering to the President of Gallifrey, or alternatively a monarch or leader we are yet to meet. Perhaps it is King Charles, after all the Doctors phone is temporal.
Just a theory, but could River be a future Doctor? I don't think it's ever been said the Dr has to be male, and it would explain both how she knows every face he has had AND why she says she killed the best man she ever knew.
I did enjoy seeing the doctor using time travel as a solution to saving himself and the world.
It was weird having her parents back and yet Amy basically staying her original non-parents raised self. Though I'll fess up to being anti-Amy and was hoping (though I knew she'd be in the Xmas special as the rumours were that it was a flashback one) that her time in the Tardis would be over, stop being the runaway bride. ;)
And speaking of Christmas I think the BBC should put out a Christmas card with all of the doctors enemies on it from last week's episode in front of the Pandorica. Since it was so sweet of them to all cooperate together to save the universe together from the doctor. ;)
Could the resetting of the universe mean that Matt is now 'the First Doctor' and all of the others never happened (well, in the old universe they did)?
That could mean that the regeneration problem is solved for the time-being?
I'm still unsure on the episode, I'll have to watch it again. I actually enjoyed the cliffhanger ending, and I'm really starting to get immersed in this whole river song enigma. (one I'm not sure it's even worth speculating, too many way too plausible possibilities). I have to say too, the low key, almost downplayed, finale was a welcome break from the constant fireworks of the RTD era, and It's most certainly made it genuinely far more exciting to return to at Christmas (I'm assuming that's what the phone call was about, 'an escaped Egyptian goddess on the orient express.....in space)...an opportunity I can only pray Moffat delivers on....all in all, this series has been a bit hit and miss for me, some episodes have been phenomenal, and represented the show at it's very best, others have been much less than than phenomenal *cough* the lodger *cough*. I like Matt Smith as the doctor, not sure he's got the drama and the emotion of the Tennant, but in some respects that's a more than welcome break....aaaanyways.... I'm rambling, all things considered, a success, and Matt Smith's lovably clumsy and eccentric doctor more than makes up for Gillans brutish and grating portrayal of Amy, an assistant who's sole saving grace is her wonderfully believable and captivating boyfriend....a genuine pleasure to watch....bring on series six is all I have to say.... I'm genuinely intrigued to see where he can go from here :)
neil, this is just a confusing thing that happens in the Whoniverse. Someone else might know, but it just seems like a paradox. For example, Amelia was thirsty, so the Doctor went back in time to get her a drink. But doing so made her thirsty.
So really, the Doctor freed himself after being freed... really quite confusing!!
Silence will fall.
Wow, there are a lot of interesting (and weird) ideas floating around.
My take:
1) Yes, that was probably the Queen on the phone with him, though nothing rules out it being a new monarch (from a later human civilization or an alien society).
2) River is not the Doctor from the future.. You people saw Silence in the Library, right? Why would the Doctor need to "call" himself? Furthermore, the whole introduction to part one of the finale (i.e. where Churchill calls the Doctor and gets River) wouldn't make sense if this were true.
3) Ron the 3rd, the "reset" universe reset to a version frozen when the Pandorica closed. Gallifrey is not back.
4) I prefer The Black Guardian to Omga... but I'm old.
River can't be a future doctor - look at Silence in the Library and Forest of the Dead. That would end the doctor completely. I love her as she is returning good guy that is so secret. Loved the end, looking forward to Christmas now
@ neil, when the doctor was in the museum, rory realized he had the fez on and the broom thingy, and he told him to go back in time to give him the sonic screwdriver so he could free the doctor and get back to the museum where he had the broom and the fez and rory said the thingy about them, and you get my point.
I really liked this finale, the wedding riddle thing was pretty clever, and it wasnt based on simply bringing back an old villan.
I dont believe that valeyard or omega will return in the next series. They just arnt well known enough. Davros seems more likely.
My only issue with the episode is simply that they didnt keep the fez!! bring back the fez!!!
I concur. The reset was simply a reset of the timeline in which the panorica existed. It is a reset to the begining of the season in essence. However, I do think there is more than meets the eye and that we are getting a bigger story than usual because of the threads left unanswered. For example, the third floor, the recreation of the TARDIS, The "Dream Lord"(who everyone keeps forgetting about), and more. Some answers given, lots to come.
the things I'm not certain are if Rory is an Auton or not anymore. I imagine not but I'd like to believe he might be...
I keep worrying that River Song is Amelia Pond. It's been stuck in my head that way all season and I can't tell you why. It just rang true.
On a side note, did anyone else notice that Amy seemed once again Randy for the Doctor? Did anyone else find it a bit strange?
Loved the episode. Fantastic season. Most consistently good season in my mind(in the sense that there are no episodes that I feel are a chore to rewatch).
I was also thinking that it could of been the black guardian instead of Omega.
River is not the doctor, that would be weird.
I don't think Gallifrey could come back but I hope I'm wrong it would be good.
I hope in the next season we get to see more TARDIS, I though they were going to show more of some of the different rooms, though I doubt they will show the swimming pool :-)
Great Episode, as Moffat just re wrote the whovian universe Gallifrey ans the timelords could be back as well at some point in a future story?
Since the universe was destroyed and then recreated & just one atom is needed for reserection, surely that means time lords were recreated as well.
Also as the universe completely came back into exsistance BEFORE the Doctor did, he could not have caused the time war nor end it using "The Moment".
Again who knows and we will see in upcoming seasons as new stories unfold.

Question:
Soooo.... How much of the season actually happened now that everything was reset? Just the beginning of 11th Hour? Does Amy somehow remember the experiences which she never lived in the current continuum?
She recognized River, so that implies she has them all .. but.. well.. that would also be kind of dumb seeing as how, from her perspective, the last time she saw the Doctor was when he put her in bed and bade her a good sleep.
She remembers, it was explained why in the episode. It did happen but it didn't. It's just a reset to the beginning of the series. The series did happen, but it was a different timeline because the cracks had fractured it. The Doctor closed the cracks, therefore restoring the timeline. But it still all happened in the Doctor's personal time stream as he is exempt from some timey wimey rules, with being a Time Lord.
I loved the episode. I don't think that amy is river son i think river song may be a time lady.... maybe. I think this seen as she can write in time lord. What happened to the master. He just disappeared!!! it would be nice if galifray came back. It would be a change seen as the Doctor would have to follow the 'rules'. Oh and i heard that the Doctors Daughter comes back!
I think Moffat leave enough there to write River Song as an older Amy Pond. Amy was taught to fly the TARDIS by the Doctor in The Lodger while the Doctor "is busy that day", to quote River Song in Times of Angel. River's diary have the same feel as the old toys in Amy's room. As for the reading and writing in Gallifreyan, well, there is always series 6.
