"[Suranne Jones] may be an old friend of the Doctor's with a new face". He hinted.
The Rani? Romana? Astrid? The possibilities are endless...!
Regarding the episode, he added, "At one point, I steal a plot from an old episode called The War Games."
Interesting.

I don't think it could be the Rani, I'm sure I read somewhere that because of some copyright or something they couldn't return.
Maybe Jenny? (The Doctors Daughter)?
I was there. He didn't say steal. He's actually really angry that he was misquoted as saying that.
What did he really say?

In other shows, characters get recast all the time and we're all expected to still believe its the same character. Just because there's a thing in this show called "regeneration", doesn't automaticly mean a character changing faces is a Timelord. For all we know this could be a re-imagining of Leela.
But keeping with what everyone else is thinking . . . . . Susan?
I hope they bring back Jenny sometime
The War Games was a 10-part serial featuring the Second Doctor (Patrick Troughton). The episode showed the War Lord trying to create the ultimate army by pitting armies from human history against each other. The Doctor was forced into regeneration at the end of the episode and his companions were returned to their homes, their memories wiped of the Doctor.
Oh, and the Wikipedia article on Suranne Jones says that the character's name is Idris.
to quote him directly via Twitter, "I said "take up a plot point" from the WAR GAMES, not "steal a plot". Big difference."
I read somewhere else that NG also said something like people would remember forever. If that is accurate, it implies to me anyway that she's not going to be a minor character such as Astrid or Cassandra.

SPOILER - Suranne Jones will be playing the TARDIS. In human form. You heard it here first.
