News & Things

Hmm, well there've been no set reports for a while now and things seem a little slow. But not for much longer! Things are picking up come October time :)

The Day of the Troll (Oct 8th)
A new audio adventure starring the 10th Doctor (and read by him!)

When the Doctor arrives on Earth in the far future, he is horrified to find the planet beset by famine and starvation. England is a barren wasteland, and scientists are desperately seeding the ground to make the crops grow again. But now it seems that something even worse is happening.

Karl Baring, the owner of research facility The Grange, has been snatched away in the middle of the night. His sister Katy was with him when he vanished, but is now in catatonic shock – so it is up to the Doctor, with the help of the scientists at The Grange, to investigate.

What is lurking under the old bridge, and why is it preying on people? The Doctor must find out, before it strikes again...

SJA (Oct 15th)
As was posted by Mac, the first episode of the 3rd series, Prisoner of the Judoon, will be coming very soon!

UPDATE:
I've now completed (to the best of my ability) a Sarah Jane series 3 section. Feel free to browse it here!

Dreamland (Oct)
There was a new interview with RTD and Julie Gardner released today. Exciting stuff!

Check out other interviews on PGtv

And according to BlogtorWho, Dreamland is set to air in the latter half of October! Although no date has been revealed as of yet.

Plus, as was stated by Gary Russell in a podcast, Dreamland is set between the Waters of Mars and the christmas specials.

Waters of Mars (Oct/Nov)
According to Phil Ford, the Waters Of Mars will be the darkest story ever in the show's history with both the story and the Doctor being terrifying.

He also apparently said it would either air in October or November. But if Dreamland is set to come after it, and Dreamland airing in October, then surely Waters of Mars has to come earlier than it!

Did that make any sense at all?

Doctor Who is forever extending its list of DVDs. Think you've seen it all? Think again (!)

Remember the Cybermen Collection released early this year? 2|entertain have decided to continue the series with the Dalek Collection (not to be confused with the Peter Cushing movie pack). The epic cover can be found all 3-D'd here, with thanks to the epic Cameron McEwan. Comprising of Bad Wolf, Parting of the Ways, The Stolen Earth, Journey's End, Daleks in Manhattan and Evolution of the Daleks (note that the Series 2 finale is not included), the collections have been made to target those children who would rather watch their favourite monsters. Expect a Slitheen boxset in the near future...

The Next Doctor and Planet of the Dead will be released together in a double whammy pack, along with a Torchwood Series One - Three boxset AND Doctor Who Series 1 - 4. Something tells me the BBC are running out of ideas...

Meanwhile, in sanity, the Sarah Jane Adventures website has been freshly updated to match that of its father's, along with a trailer maker (presented not-so-enthusiastically by Anjli Mohindra). The new series, which begins on the 15th October, will follow in last year's boots with a cinema trailer. As revealed by Edward Russell at the 'See Me on CBBC' tour (and wonderfully told by Nabu San from Sarah-Jane.tv):
"I was excited to learn a brand spankin' new cinema trailer for the third series was being planned, which would feature all four of the leading cast as opposed to just one or two. Look out for that tagged to kids films in the coming month or so!"

So there you go, lots to look forward too. Your wallet might even be quite light by the end of it all...

Sarah Jane Adventures

It's back on Thursday 15th October, and Digital Spy have the details...

'Prisoner of the Judoon'
Adopting a similar policy to last season's opening Sontaran tale, the first story features the return of some aesthetically displeasing aliens from Doctor Who. The rhino-like intergalactic law enforcers from 'Smith and Jones' are back, with Nick Briggs once again on vocal duties.

Producer Nikki Wilson told SFX magazine: "The Judoon are joining us in our series opener, alongside a brand new monster, a reptilian character called Androvax, a Veil. He's under arrest when one of the Judoon's life carriers crashes on Earth, so a Judoon's hunting down his prisoner who's escaped."

'The Mad Woman in the Attic'

Sadly not a remake of a legendary Cracker episode of the same name, unless butchering innocent women on trains is suitable CBBC material these days. The contents of the story are shrouded in secrecy, but the cast includes Eleanor Tomlinson, Toby Parkes, Souad Faress, Gregg Sulkin and Kate Fleetwood.

'The Wedding of Sarah Jane Smith'

Whenever the chiming of wedding bells can be heard in the Whoniverse, it's a sign that something strange is happening. Just look at Gwen Cooper's shapeshifter-dominated wedding in Torchwood. Just what lies in store for Sarah Jane as she prepares to walk down the aisle? She'd better have a sonic wedding ring to accessorise with her lip gloss.

The big news is that David Tennant will be featuring prominently as The Doctor in this story. "Viewers thought they may have to wait until November for the next full episode of Doctor Who," stated showrunner Russell T Davies, "but this is an extra special treat. It's not just a cameo from David - this is a full-on appearance for The Doctor as he and Sarah Jane face their biggest threat ever."

Sarah Jane herself, actress Elisabeth Sladen, added: "When I heard the news that David was going to be joining us, I was absolutely over the moon. Not only has it made my day but it will also make the viewers' day. It's fantastic news that Sarah Jane is going to spend some time working with The Doctor again and is testament to just how successful this CBBC series is."

But what is this big threat that awaits us? Could it lie in the form of the debonair Nigel Havers, who has personified suave in a glittering acting career?

Sladen's real-life husband Brian Miller shows up in front of the camera, too. Nikki Wilson told Doctor Who Magazine: "He was simply ideal casting for this pivotal role, which sees him in conflict with Sarah Jane and the gang. Although there's a lot more going on with Brian's character than might first appear." In addition, the ever-sinister Trickster is lurking around the church. The prospect of him and The Doctor locking horns is mouthwatering...

'The Eternity Trap'

This tale is reportedly a ghost story which features an extraterrestrial that can make people play games against their will. Floella Benjamin reprises her role as Professor Celeste Rivers from the Pharos Institute, who previously appeared in the stories 'The Lost Boy' and 'The Day Of The Clown' as an ally of Sarah Jane. The main villain is called Erasmus Darkening, played by veteran actor Donald Sumpter.

'Mona Lisa's Revenge'

Has someone been watching Ghostbusters II? This brilliantly titled two-parter involves a painting that appears to come alive, although it's not the first time that Mona Lisa has featured in the Whoniverse. For the superb 1979 story 'The City Of Death' is partially set in the Parisian art gallery Le Louvre, which houses Leonardo da Vinci's masterpiece.

Former Corrie star Suranne Jones guests in this episode, but has she swapped Moaner Karen for Mona Lisa? Possibly, but this has yet to be confirmed. Nikki Wilson certainly has high hopes for her role, as she stated: "We conceived the character in a story meeting about 18 months ago and immediately named Suranne as perfect to play her - never imagining we'd actually get someone who's in so much demand."

Drop The Dead Donkey legend Jeff Rawle appears too, 25 years after starring in the Doctor Who story 'Frontios'. Newsround presenter, BBC Entertainment Correspondent (and more importantly Whovian) Lizo Mzimba is also part of this story, presumably playing himself.

'The Gift'

Very little is known about the season finale, but it will surely please fans of all things Raxacoricofallapatorian. That's about as much fun to type as it is to say. It looks like the Slitheen mob are in conflict with cousins from their home world - the Blathereens. Whatever its merits, the final two episodes look like they'll be a real gas!

I can also exclusively reveal that the Blathereen will be... orange!

SJA series 3

Right, here is anything I could find about the 3 series of the Sarah Jane Adventures :)

Prisoner of the Judoon

Part1
Sarah Jane and the gang face the most dangerous day of their lives, as the rhino-like Judoon return. When prisoner Androvax the Destroyer crash-lands on Earth, a Veil is set free and starts to turn Earth's technology against itself. And his next intended victim is Sarah Jane.

Part2
As the Judoon fleet approaches Earth, it's a race against time to stop Androvax. But with Genetech's technology on the rampage, and Rani's parents taken prisoner, can anything stop the Army of the Infinitesimal?

Lis Sladen:
“I love one and two, because I’m evil Sarah Jane, and I absolutely relished it – it’s great! I said to Phil Ford, ‘Why did you think I could do that?’ and he said, ‘It’s something you did or said last year’, so I thought ‘Oh… They do listen!”

Filming
The only bit that was reported took place in the Biosciences Building on Park Place.
Clyde and Rani were spotted, as well as Paul Kasey inmn a Judoon outfit (minus head).

The actual filming was inside a lab with computers on the desks and some sort of cabinet full of glass bottles which were lit up. Also, spotted outside the lab were some spare doors with a large hole in them.

The Mad Woman in the Attic
Sarah Jane is classified as mad, when she frequently appears at 'alien sightings' and Luke is taken from her, because she is supposedly putting him in danger.

Lis Sladen
“Three and four my husband [Brian Miller] is in, which is brilliant. That was in the rain on Barry Island. If you’ve ever been on Barry Island, with or without rain, you would remember it. I got a chest infection on Barry Island! You look at it and you don’t see the terrible weather we had - it was a nightmare for poor Alice [Troughton, the director], it really was..."

There doesn't seem to be any other info for this episode, but keep in mind that we've got the 'monsters who want to infect Earth with a strangely aggressive weed' storyline which is unaccounted for.

Filming
Some filming took place at Barry Island on the beach. Unfortunately the actual filming of any scenes was missed, but you can still see the evidence of them being there!

The Wedding of Sarah Jane Smith
Sarah Jane has finally found the man she wants to spend the rest of her life with. And as the wedding draws near, there's only one man she wants to invite, the Doctor himself....

Lis Sladen
“A great story. It’s by my lovely Gareth – he’s lovely because he knows Sarah so well, he knows Doctor Who so well. He puts little things in sometimes, where I look up from a read-through and maybe only he and I and Russell and someone else will spot them! It’s really nice to have those little moments.”

Filming
I'm not very good at reading slates. But at a guess I'd say the scene filmed was for episode 5 and its scene 8 and 9.1

And included in the filming was the kids, Sarah Jane, and her new parter (played by Nigel Havers)
The scene filmed was quite simple. SJS & her man are in the restaurant. Clyde, Luke and Rani all sneak round the corner and peer into the restaurant. They obviously see something amiss, turn around and look shocked to each other....

You can also see videos of this scene on Paul Mounts blog

There was also news of filming in Dyffryn Gardens and Colman Manor, which by the looks of them could both be for a wedding type scenario.

The Eternity Trap
This episode features an extraterrestrial girl that can make people play games against their will. The main villain is called Erasmus Darkening, played by veteran actor Donald Sumpter.

Lis Sladen
“The haunted house one is incredibly scary - I mean I even screech in it when something happens! Danny [Anthony, who plays Clyde] went to the loo and he wouldn’t look in the mirror - when he came back out from washing his hands, he flew out!”

Filming
Someone managed to catch the tail end of a shoot where they were using a creepy looking house, and Clyde was there with director Joss Agnew. Obviously this must relate to the haunted house episode, which is also apparently a Luke lite (since Tommy was doing his GCSEs)

Mona Lisa’s Revenge
This episode takes place in a museum. In fact, it takes place in the "International Gallery", last seen in Planet of the Dead!

And as the title of the episode suggests, this will be about a painting coming to life and taking revenge for some sort of injustice or whatnot.

The main scene witnessed is one with Rani's Dad taking a bunch of schoolchildren (including Rani, Luke and Clyde) to see the Mona Lisa.

He stands on the steps outside and says:
"Hand your phones in at reception, and NO RUNNING."

Everyone starts to run up the steps, with a struggling kid at the back, probably asthmatic, being helped along by a teacher.

"NO RUNNING! We're here as honoured guests, not as some kind of hormonal SAS!"

Nobody's listening, so he exasperatedly bolts up the steps after them, hurrying the boy and the teacher out of the way.

As well as this, a scene was witnessed with Sarah Jane, the headmaster & hoards of schoolkids on the museum steps. Lis' stunt double was there too, which implies there might be some action happening.

Also spotted between filming were some policemen, a guy in a black costume with a black scarf over the bottom half of his face, highwayman-style, and there was a dark-haired woman in a deep blue velvet dress & black veil on her head, who may be Mona Lisa.

The Gift
A CBBC literature statement confirmed both the Slitheen and Blathereen (their orange cousins) would appear in this episode.

There doesn't seem to be any other info for this episode, but keep in mind that we've got the 'monsters who want to infect Earth with a strangely aggressive weed' storyline which is unaccounted for.

Also...
Filming happened both at Hawthorn and Cardiff High School. Its been used as the kids' school in SJA before so it doesn't seem unlikely to be the case again!

A huge huge thanks to everyone who reported, we are indebted to you! Unfortunately I forgot to collect the names as I went along, so sorry you are not properly credited :)
