The Next Doctor

Episode Location: Victorian England, 1851

Aliens/Enemies: Cybermen, Cybershades, Miss Hartigan
New Characters: Rosita, The Other Doctor

For The Next Doctor, RTD has gone for a simple adventure approach... it's very funny & well paced, Pirates of the Caribbean to VOTD's Poseidon Adventure. The episode contains the phrase "cache of info-stamps"

"I play a character called the Doctor - a man who believes himself to be a Timelord. He's a tragic character. Something terrible has happened to him. Over the course of the episode, bits of what happened are revealed... But all those questions my Doctor wants to ask about himself and his past have to be put aside to save London from destruction.

Set Reports

1st Report of Filming

This opening scene was shown as part of this years Children in Need. Exciting stuff!

And what was that thing that leaped out at them? Answer: Cybershade! They're kinda like fluffy bronze versions aren't they?

2nd Report of Filming

Assuming this is following on straight from the last scene, I'm guessing the Doctors' and Rosita are going to scarper.

We see the Other Doctor and Rosita run along a street, they stop and the Other Doctor says to her: "The Doctor's companion will do what the Doctor says! Now go!"

And at some other point we get this:

The Other Doctor is talking to Rosita at this point and I have no idea where it comes in the story but I cant see our Doctor anywhere. Who knows?

And at this point I don't know if our Doctor is with them, or after them, or just on his own but I bet anything he wants some answers. So I guess he must go look for them.

As well as our heros, there's also a Cybershade lurking mysteriously in broad daylight where it can clearly be seen.

3rd Report of Filming

While out and about on the street, we can see that a funeral procession is taking place 

And it looks like bother Doctors are watching it.

Now, apparently theres a Cybershade in the funeral cart. But of course neither Doctors' or Rosita notice it.

4th Report of Filming

A snowy graveyard, with the same funeral taking place. 

And now we get to meet a very fun character! Miss Hartigan, who is the lovely lady in red, and the villain of this episode.

As the funeral goes on, those attending can see a shadow of a man lurking in the distance, and moving closer. And who should come into view? Cybers!

Presumably, Miss Hartigan does a good old speech or something that lets the others know that she's behind this all, since a man turns to her and asks...

"What manner of men are they?"

"Cybermen"

And then said Cybers begin to attack with the usual electric-neck-grip-of-death, while the humans run away. And apparently there are some Cybershades there as well.

Man: Monstrous witch!

Miss H: Merry Christmas to you too

5th Report of Filming
Right, so while all that is going on, I'm guessing that our heros want to stop the evil and find out what the hell is going on.

And it looks like they go snooping in someones house. Who's house? I have no idea. But they're definitely not alone.

"...Okay!"

So then I guess they scarper pretty sharpish and most likely go somewhere else. I'm guessing the steel works (where it looks like quite a bit goes on)

And I think that while they're in the steel mill, the Doctor finds some projection (or does something Time Lordy and clever) while the Other Doctor seems somewhat distracted by a book.

Well its definitely not any language I know... could it be Time Lordy? Could the Other Doctor be feeling something? Or is he really just a con-man (as speculation suggests)

6th Report of Filming

And at some other point we see the funeral cart again. Its being driven by a Cybershade and Miss Hartigan is sitting at the front.

I'm guessing they're off to do some unspeakable evil. Probably in their Cyber-HQ (the trashed set of the Torchwood Hub) And it looks like they've got some pretty fancy machinery there as well!

The inside of the HQ has been described as a "sort of huge Cyber-victorian engine - all cogs, chains, furnaces and steam. Think steampunk."

And inside is where the Cyberleader lives! As of now, I don't know how integral he'll be to the plot, but hes got a bit of a different head that the usual Cyber.

7th Report of Filming

A long line of Victorian children can be seen under the charge of the undertaker (from the funeral) and I'll give you one guess why he's working for the bad guys...

The children march up to the door, and are shocked when they see two cybermen. They panic, and some try to run, only to be scared back into line by three hissing Cybershades.

The undertaker then said something along the lines of:

"Enter the court of the Cyber-King! That is an order - March!" 

Unable to escape, the children trudge past the cybers, into their HQ

Once inside, the children are forced to shovel coal into buckets, pour oil into funnels and trudge up and down rickety stairs. Basic slave labour really.

8th Report of Filming

I don't know whats happened beforehand, but it looks like the Doctor and Rosita are rushing to the rescue!  They arrive where the children were taken and hide behind some barrels. Rosita wants to follow, but the Doctor says that "It will be too well guarded".

They move to rush off in another direction, only to be shocked to find two cybermen watching them. 

The Doctor: Whoa! That's cheating, sneaking up like that! Have you got your legs on silent?

Then Miss H emerges from the building behind. I guess thus far the Doctor doesn't know that she's the baddie since he tries to coax her away

The Doctor: Don't let them touch you, just come here, slowly. 

Miss Hartigan: I have nothing to fear from my shining knights.

The Doctor reasons that she can't be fully Cyberized so she still has free will and can break away etc

Miss H: I am completely unconverted... no-one can make me change my mind.

And THEN the Doctor catches onto the fact that Miss H is behind the Cyber plans.

The Doctor: ... and it all has to happen tomorrow, on Christmas day? That was your idea was it?

Miss H agrees and asks who the Doctor is and how he knows so much about her comrades. The Doctor tells them who he is.

Cyberman: [his appearance] does not match the cybermen visual record

The Doctor: ... ah well, The Doctor, Timelords, mumble mumble...

And after some more conversation, Miss H orders the cybermen to kill the Doctor

The Doctor: Ah well, wait a minute, let me die happy - tell me what you want the children for? 

Miss H: What does anyone want children for?

The Doctor then throws something at the cyberman, who catches it and informs the Doctor that it is ineffective against the Cyber-race. Then the Other Doctor steps out from behind the Cybers & Mrs H and shoots them. I don't know with what, but I hope it was effective.

9th Report of Filming

Following on from the shooting (I'm guessing) the Doctor, Rosita & the Other Doctor run away and end up hiding in a passageway. 

The Other Doctor mentions something about his "memory not fully intact yet" and he also talked about some papers, and the words "15 Latimer Street".

He also has a belt strapped around him which what could either be ammo, or some form of EMP device? (like what was seen in VotD)

The Radio Times mentions how both Doctor's end up inside the Cyber-HQ watching the children slaving away. The Other Doctor says "we can set them free" whilst holding up a piece of alien tech like an old hand.

Miss H: Children! Pay attention! I want to see you work... Now, let the new Industrial Revolution begin!

And I'm guessing that there will be a big finale like ending where the children are set free etc etc. In one of the trailers we can see the Doctor picking up a sword and defending himself from a Cyber so maybe that happens now.

Either way theres a later scene where a lot of people were running away from a large explosion. The Other Doctor appears to grab a child as he runs past, as if saving him from the blast.

10th Report of Filming

An arrival/departing scene with the TARDIS was filmed. The Doctor and the Other Doctor were there. 

The Other Doctor says something along the lines of "ooooh arrrrghh, so this is it then."

Speculation
Theres a lot of arguments about the Other Doctor, and whether he is actually a future Doctor or not. 

"Morrissey is not , I repeat NOT, a future Doctor, Hes a con man.

10 does believe that Morrissey could be him in the future for a short while but as the story unfolds, the truth emerges through a few funny scenes."

Apparently he's a con-man (who may or may not have hired people to dress up as cybershades in order to look heroic)
