Silence in the Library
Episode Location: The Library, 51st Century
Aliens/Enemies: Vashta Nerada, the suit creature
New Characters: The girl, Doctor Moon, Miss Evangelista, River Song, Lux, Anita, Other Dave, Proper Dave
Gadgets Used: Psychic paper, Sonic screwdrvier x2, Squareness gun
Episode Objective: To find out why no one is in the Library, and then to help the explorers and escape the shadows.
One hundred years ago, the universe's greatest library was sealed off, leaving only one warning: "If you want to live, count the shadows". But now, the shadows are moving again... the Doctor and Donna must uncover the terrible truth behind the Nodes and the horrifying Data Ghost, to find the library's secret.
And apparently the episodes contain two outrageous deaths
NOTE: I still have no idea what goes into which episode, so I am seriously making most of it up. It seems to make some kind of sense though.
So, according to someone on DWF, this story apparently takes place somewhere in the 51st Century, in a twisted alternate future/time line/parallel universe.
But the main setting is the Library. A giant Library, “a whole planet of books”, that’s been abandoned for 100 years.

And apparently these books give away spoilers about people’s life stories... and RTD says that the concept of spoilers is a vital part of the script - "so let's just say you should watch [River Song], and listen to her every word, very carefully indeed..."
But first, I think we'll meet the girl and Doctor Moon.

But Doctor Moon also exists in the Library, and appears to be almost a guardian/Librarian figure. Since he seems to be talking about the Shadows we can assume he's in the know.

So the Library has to be real.. otherwise how could the Doctor and Donna arrive there? So is the "normal" world the one thats fake? And who is this girl?!
Something to do with moving shadows perhaps? Whatever reason, it wont stop the Doctor and Donna from having a nosey around! Off they go to peek at books!

But I think there's something terribly, terribly wrong with the Library (well, we know that but I'm building dramatic suspense) Especially since the darkness itself seems to be chasing the Doctor and Donna here:

So mabe they run back to the TARDIS but, as always, I'm sure something goes hideously wrong and they can't escape for whatever reason.

At least Donna seems to know what she's doing in their attempt to escape. Kick a door in, it always works.
But she seems to disappear...
Or maybe the Doctor and Donna just go into a different room.
There's probably a nice scene here, but obviously I have no idea what it is, so we'll just move swiftly along.
Right, before the Doctor and Donna can do anything in this new and different room, a door slams open and they're interrupted by lots of walking spacesuits!
Eep! That was Riversong (we'll learn about her later) But if she knows the Doctor... and she clearly does, then shy does this happen?

I dunno... but it turns out okay, everything is explained and we find out that they're not strange spacesuit monsters, just people. And here they are:

"I’m an astronaut called Lux, whose great grandfather built a planet (as you do), and the whole planet is one big library. But something’s gone wrong and everyone has disappeared. So I get a team of people together to go there and find out what’s happening, and who should I meet? Only The Doctor!"
And of course:
So, there's probably a nice conversation about why River Song and her team are there - to find out what happened to the Library and the people or something.

And then, of course, they find this wee treasure:
So is that the manual on how to fly a TARDIS? Or is it a book on the Doctor's life? Either way, its very important since its on the BBC Doctor homepage thingy (and, it flashes a picture of Rose if you change the date of your computer)

Anyway, throughout this scene of meeting people and discovery, the Doctor does some serious detective work.
So, now we're allowed to ask: Whats Cal? Or cal?
Cal can be a name, I know that much.

But then the lights turn off... and we already know that the darkness is not our friend in this episode. What if the shadows are closing in?
Almost every species in the universe has an irrational fear of the dark. But they're wrong. Because it's not irrational...

Well, the Doctor always has a good solution to these things. RUN.

At some point (possibly during all the running) the Doctor looses Donna. Or Donna looses the Doctor, which ever way you prefer to look at it.
Either way, its not a good thing... mostly due to the unpleasentness thats stalking the Library

The Suit Creature!
(and I'm sure it has a better name that that, but I don't know what it is)

Eeep!
"RUN!"
Apparently, after the Doctor and Donna have been separated, Donna ends up in a mysterious hospital where she meets Doctor Moon.
So is he just part of the girls mind? Or is the "real world" just a lie?

I don't know what happens over there, but all the while she's apparently trying to work out whats going on, whats happened to her Doctor, and what these threatening shadows have to do with anything.

And what we're all really asking, or possibly wondering, or are just a little curious about, is the same thing that was asked in the trailer:

So there you go, the shadows aren't actually shadows at all. They're Vashta Nerada, “piranhas of the air – shadows that melt the flesh” and most likely turn you into this:
And at some point, I have no idea when, we meet this strange concoction:
A woman who looks like she's dressed up as a pillar - or maybe she is a pillar? Or an information center type thing? Or maybe she's a "node"?

why does donna refer to the kids as her children?
do you think the mysterious Ms. Evangelista/The Widow/black blob is an alien? if so what kind?
My speculation on this episode is that ella is the mail character who has special powers. joshua is her friend and Ms evangelista is an alien? trying to use her for some evil plan
don't know about the children but donna refered to them as hers. any idea what that means?
I suppose it depends on the delivery of Donna's line...
E.G, if she said "Stop talking about my children like that" it could mean that the Widow is talking about Donna's children in a way she doesn't like.
But if she said "Stop talking about 'my children' like that" it could mean that the Widow is talking about the children like they are her own, but Donna knows they are more than that.
Does that make sense?
Either way, its a Moffat script so its probably be something that we didn't even think about.
could the three clone girls be ella or a product of ella's power? I know there is no confirmation that ella has a special ability but as the story focuses of her there must be something un normal about her.
it revolves around a abandoned library? well then scrap all other idea's obviously it is competely something we did not think about. but then again steven moffats episodes are always like that. you think they are about one think but then it changes. look at the Girl in the Fireplace for example
wow never knew a episode or doctor who could be so compicated. Abandoned library, miss evangelista, River Song, ella, clone kids, parallel/twisted world. doesn't make any sense but sounds amazing.
what do you think the clone kids and ella have 2 do with a library in space?
Heh, I have no idea what anyone has to do with anything... I'm keeping all my speculations light for this episode since none of the info I have seems to make much sense!
I know it sounds like Steven Moffat at his best!!!
Maybe the Widow is the Red Widow. Im probably wrong because Widow is in a black cloak but its just a thought.
I, who normally love spoilers find this new info from the sun appalling and has basically ruined the plot for me. Not blaming you jess for posting it or anything, but at the moment I feel very sorry for Mr Moffat.
Aye, tis indeed a shame. I would have probably preferred not to know, but my duty to this website sort of requires me to put this kinda stuff... sorry it was ruined for you!
Don't worry its not your fault. Im just angry at the sun really.
i think that the widow catured donna, and locked her in the library, and the doctor has to rescue her some way, while donna has to rely on the books in the library to find out what the widow is up to, or something. im not sure how the other people fit in though. but thats just me and my huge imagination, and im probably way off of what the real plot is.
51st Century? Hmm, looks pretty modern to me. Maybe the secret in the library is a portal to the 51st century. That could be why the Doctor loses Donna and has to find her: Donna goes to the library and uncovers the portal and falls through it. Then the Doctor needs to find the secret in the library to get Donna back. And 'Lux' isn't a very modern name. Maybe Donna tells Lux and River Song in the 51st century about the Doctor. Then they can go back through the portal and tell the Doctor about it. And the second part might be called "Silence in the Library" rather than the first, because the portel might open and suck everything inside the library and sends it to the 51st century, making everything silent because there is nothing in the library. Just another thought.
silence in the library implies that someone (or something) forces people to be quiet. sounds terrifying anyway, i mean blink and the empty child/the doctor dances were the scariest episodes ever.
it says in DWA that this episode will 'make you want to keep the lights on forever....' that kind of ties in with the 'count the shadows if you want to live' buisness
libraries are very shadowy places from my expeiriece.
oh and how could it be in a parallel universe i thought the doctor said that was impossible
wasn't captain jack from the 51st century?
and steven moffat originally introduced jack?
I know that alot can happen in a century but why would they make it the 51st for no good reason?
theres really no point to this but im just so bored with no doctor who to make up theories about so im starting to make massive theories over tiny details
'The Girl in the Fireplace' was also the 51st century.
well, someone said earlier about donna, like, rewriting her life, so wouldn't that mean that she GOT married, and had kids, so on???? and that might explain the wedding dress sequence???? and the 'my children' bit???? i'm not sure - it's kind of wild, but, oh well!
it could be a library with every little bit of information there ever was. donna could find a book or something that shows her how to rewrite her life.
about these 'node' things, node means knot in latin and is the name of a kind of computer networking system. hope that helps
The BBC changed the name of episode nine from River's Run to The Forest of the Dead!
Forest of the Dead - A common phrase reffering to a land with dead carcass's stood up as zombies. Forest of the Dead therefore means an Army of the Walking Dead.
i have an idea about the pics with donna and the cloaked person. Because the library is full of books about peoples lives Donna could look into hers and the pics could be what she sees (her getting marryed and the children)
And maybe the cloaked person could be like someone who keeps an eye on the people who enter there own story!
I think...
Doctor and Donna enter the library. Donna finds the portal to the 51st century adn goes through it, but it closes behind her. In the future library she finds that not only can you see your entire life story, you can change it. Thats why it was built, so people could see what was going to go wrong with their lives and fix it. Donna either 1) looks into hers and sees that something terrible happens because of the Doctor OR 2) looks into the Doctors, sees what he has done (Time War, etc) and decides she doesn't want to travel with him. EITHER WAY, Donna changes her life so that the Doctor never existed (tieing in with the "Doctor gets trapped out of time" rumour and the wedding photos). So she marries Lance, and the Racnoss invade without the Doctor to help them. The Racnoss children latch onto peoples backs (tieing in with the "there's something on your back" lines, and the photos/videos from the final few episodes - "Show me your back!", etc). So in the next episode when Rose comes through , tries to warn the Doctor that her world is being invaded by Daleks, she can't because he never existed. Only Rose, Donna, Martha, Mickey, Sarah ETC remember him.
Off episode topic:
FINALE!SPOILERS!FINALE
Donna supposeldy turns out to actually be a bad character (most likely the Master) who deliberately joined the Doctor, tried to erase him from existence ETC. She then uses her/his super-time-lordy-amazing-techno-skills to cause the parallel world to collapse, sending the Tylers , Mickey, the Daleks and Davros to our universe with a super-awesome cliffhanger.
Or not.
Who knows?
..
This also destroys all other worlds, sending the Doctor back as well.
Just filling in that little plot hole i made.
oooh wouldnt it be lovely(well freaky) if professer riverSONG told the doctor his song would end, as done by the ood
the eternals wanted to know everything. maybe theyre running this place
It all sound very Pratchettesque to me. A library full of books that write peoples lives as they live them.
Possibly the person in black robes is a 'librarian' that takes Donna on a tour of what life would be like without the Doctor? But that doesn't sound dark or horrific enough for Moffat.
Maybe Donna finds the Doctor's 'book' and reads that Rose is back?!
we have had clones in the sontaran episodes and then in the doctors daughter someone has figured out a way to make a daughter of the doctor. theres some possibleplaces for those children to have come from.
The "Clone" kids could be an alternate reality Donna living her life as if she never even met the Doctor and the wedding dress is Donna getting married to Lance Bennett instead of infecting her with huon paticles.
Hmm, there is something I thought of that no one has mentioned. Maybe the Doctor and Donna can enter into the books. IE they could become part of the story in one of the books. It could explain the weirdness of the pictures.
I just want to say that a planet of books (and a universal library with a sinister history) is an awesome idea. Ideas like this are why I LOVE Doctor Who. Long live Stephen Moffat!!!
This is just a theory, but I really hope I am right. The thing in the long black cloak looks a lot like 'The Trickster' in the Sarah Jane Adventures. This thing never calls itself 'The Trickster' it doesn't name itself at all. This thing takes people out of their timelines so they never exsisted. I also think that 'The Trickster' is the same creature that worked for the Black Guardian in the 'Armageddon Factor'. The thing was called 'The Shadow' (Shadow Proclamation?)I don't think the Black Guardian is invovled, but I think the 'Shadow' or 'the trickster' is.
White Guardian, I don't see how the Shadow Proclamation could be anything do with a character who was little more than a stooge in a story broadcast 30 years ago.
The Doctor and Donna land on a library planet in the 51st century that had been abandoned 100 years ago. The library contains trillions of books each showing the future history of individuals. Histories that haven't happened yet. The Doctor and Donna encounter dead bodies, data ghosts, the Suit Creature, Vashta Nerada (piranhas of the air – shadows that melt the flesh) and archaeologist Professor River Song played by Alex Kingston. At the end of part 1 Donna is separated from the Doctor and finds herself in a mysterious hospital administered by Doctor Moon.
Donna starts receiving strange images of a girl with blond hair. The girl's name is Rose and she warns Donna of a plan by the Daleks and an old enemy of the Doctor's to destroy her universe.
I heard that Donna steals the book with her history but doesn't read it until the end of Midnight, causing the Doctor to disappear and Rose to finally manage to contact the TARDIS like she was in The Poison Sky.
The Trickster would be fun. He/she/it was definitely scary enough to be on Real Who. :)
The way I see it forest of the dead refers to the books themselves. forest = paper, the books contain life stories in the same way death keeps hour glasses watching over the sands until they ru out and then he reaps the souls of the dead.
so the forest becomes a library of books and death becomes the woman in black.
I think Donna reads her life story and it's wrong, an alternate story gets attacked by a shadow and ends up transported to the alternate life where she meets the woman in black. I think the woman in black is donna's saviour, helping donna by rescuing her from the shadows attack by hiding her in her alternate life.
The doctor and river song are left to battle the ghosts and the scary skeletons in spacesuits and donna forces the woman in black to take her back to the library where she reveals some nugget of information to the doctor that enables him to defeat the ghosts. probably their identity.
then there'll be some business betwen the doctor and River song, mutual admiration sort of thing. Y'know how the doctor loves intelligent women. Just look at the way he flirted with Ida Scott and Agatha Christie. Anyway - this has all got to do with time meddling in my view, creating time anomalies and the shadow proclamation which is probably to do with keeping a low profile as a time tourist and not meddling in time from a timelords perspective as governors of the time flow. The proclamation probably states somewhere that it's forbidden to unalterably fiddle with the flow of events and the shadows are doing that so the doc will kick their butts.
or possibly not.
The SUN said someting about a parallel universe...which means there might be a glimps of ROSE!!!
Jess, the widow and the wedding dress are probably episodes 12+ 13 because if the ep is set in a library, how did Donna end up in a children's playground. :)
i'm just a little curious to know about something i saw in the cinema long trailer 4 this series that i recall seeing the doctor on his nee's crying. any ideas what episode thats from guys???
Hmm, you know, I need to watch it again, because I don't remember a crying part.
Oh, wait, no...I see it now. Right before the clips of all the companions. Interesting! Then again, it could be from any of the episodes we haven't seen yet, not necessarily the next ones.
good work Jess. Thanks! Could the abandoned library take place on the LOST planet of Poosh? still haven't seen it yet and I don't think it's Shan Shen so....
wow! thats really good spotting with the tree- thingy! And this does seem to make sense too
Right, hold on.. 51st Century.. we;ve been here before haven't we? And what happened last time we were in teh 51st century, (i cant remember) but i guess its some trouble!
So, I say here that, parallel universe.. btu hang on.. how is that possible? Because, you cant travel between parallel universes with the TARDIS, or can you, or cant you? But the Doctor wouldn't do that i guess..
BUT, if Rose is mentioned, then im very very very very (you get the idea...) happy!!! :)
So, I think:
Rose
Parallel Universe
People-killing shadows
AND
*SPOILERS (if you haven't read the story arc)
THEN doesnt this mean that when Donna looks back into her own future, with a book...
So:
Rose
Parallel Universe
People-Killing Shadows
Doctor/Donna get lost or something
Another lost planet?
Mention of Timelord stuff???
Well, im looking forward to it anyway...
the shadows are moving again they must have been moving before, stopped, but now they've started again
the shadow in the trailer looks a bit like the judoon!
5th picture down - what is the doctor holding in his hand?
looks like a box of leaves. leaves-trees-forest of the dead maybe?
If you look at the pics on the BBC site. Look at some of the books!
'Type 40 TT Capsule Complete Manual'
'The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy'
'Black Orchid'
And up the top there's a mirror-reversed:
'Type 30 TT Capsule Complete Manual'
Some are illegible. Can anyone read them? They may contain clues to the finale, etc.
Ahem, the Type 40 TT Capsule Complete Manual must be a book about how to conturl the Doctors TARDIS, 'cause his TARDIS is a Type 40 TT Capsule. also, this episode is REALLY WEIRD! A evil libray-thing that has evil shadow? What's wrong with Steven Moffet now? Also, I CAN NOT belive that "The Fires of Pompeii" was voted best episode!

Anyone notice that the outside of the book on the homepage looks a lot like the TARDIS panels???
ive noticed that in the episode love and monsters the Doctor mentions something about a living shadow escaping from the howling halls. Could there be a connection between this and Silence in the library!
ive noticed that in the episode love and monsters the Doctor mentions something about a living shadow escaping from the howling halls. Could there be a connection between this and Silence in the library!
Other book titles on the homepage include:
1. Monty python's big red book
2. A journal of impossible things
3. The time machine
4.'Something' worlds (looks like between two worlds)
The other books as posted above by Anonymous are correct and there's a whole bunch of books with non readable titles.
This might just be an outlandish theory, but has anyone noticed that they've laid the number 42 in numerous places? I've only caught it thrice, but I'm thinking maybe they're hinting something...
Something BIG! Something BIG that involves the number 42! I mean think about it,
a) There was an episode called 42 in series 3!
b) When the Doctor is trying to prevent the Host from killing him in VOTD, he shouts "42!".
c) 42 Palace Road, it says it on the page!
Am I the only one who sees this suspicious pattern?
I've also noticed 42 coming up, but I guess I thought it was a gag. In Douglas Adams' Hitchhiker series, it's the Answer to the Great Question about Life, the Universe, and Everything...at which point we realize that we don't know the question. Since Adams used to write for Who, I just took it as a bit of a homage...like the reference to Arthur Dent in "Christmas Invasion."
I'm thinking you're probably right.
hi there i'm pretty new to this whole blogging thing but i really like your site Jess. It amazes me how you can get all this cool info, i mean before i visited this blog site i didnt even know the daleks were coming back. Thanks again your site is great!!
Ooh, just thought - That one book I couldn't really get the title of could be War of the worlds. it's throwing me because the typeface seems to be a bit swirly and the lettering is indistint.
The books I mentioned are the ones behind the pop up Tardis cover book with the days to go announcement. only visible for a soplit second before the Tardis cover book obscures the view.
Jess, look at this: The synopsis for the Forest of the Dead has been released:
As the shadows rise and march, the Doctor forges an alliance with the mysterious River Song, as Russell T Davies's Bafta Award-winning time-travelling drama continues. But can anyone stop the Vashta Nerada? While the Doctor discovers long-buried secrets and revelations about his own future, the sinister Nodes declare that Donna is doomed.
Doesn't Proper Dave and Other Dave look like reference to the Terry Pratchett's "Hogfather"? There was Medium Dave who was called so because all other adjectives were already used by other Daves.
Hey - Earlier some people were talking about the number 42 and how it is appearing all over. Well today I went to the news page on bbc.co.uk/doctorwho and on the bottom it said "Items 1 to 10 of 42"! This is definately a coincidence, but I thought it was sort of funny.
can any of you read the left page of the book on the doctor who homepage. something like "happy of inc 100" or something, and that strange picture, whats it ment to be?
Could the book planet be the LOST moon of Poosh? I think that as it is supposedly a planet of books it has to have a name and this is as good as any. Could you add it to the top with a question mark?
Hmm. There's something that no-one seems to have noticed. It might be a red herring, but it might not.
Made in Scotland: Sssh! (Count The Shadows and Telebiogenesis)
Look at the pics taken from the BBC site at the bottom of the post, and look to see where else we've been in a library.
Just what has telebiogenesis (and Black Orchid) got to do with it?
ahoj
i think that doctor moon is a psychiatrist and the girl is insane (or thought to be insane but telling the truth) and keeps going on about shadows. That's why donna comes across doctor moon in a hospital!
maybe
omg that is freaky i was right!!!! ish, look at the preview on the bbc website!!!
in the picture of them holding the tardis book it looks like the light is coming FROM the book
What I want to know is...
... is Lux local ?
I think that Donna is looking through Rose's life book and that hooded thing is like an angel of death. Also I think the hooded thing is changing history and in its new history Donna gets married and she has children and also suffering from nightmares about her real life.
I also think that the hooded thing is cal.
You know it was called Rivers run perhaps Professor River song does lots of running in forest of the dead or maybe she needs to save everything by having to race to the doctor but she has to get past loads of monsters and then that lady-in-a-pillar tells her to run and then she saves the day
Or not i made that up as i went along!
hey - earlier I noticed that someone mentioned a light coming from the book. The light isn't coming from the book but in fact it is coming from River Song's Space Suit. If you look at the pictures, you can see a light on all of the suits' chests.
I read some of you see a HitchHiker's Guide to The Galaxy reference in the 42 mentions, but I found something funny about that.
Go to the Doctor Who BBC homepage, when the TARDIS book appears with (...) days to go, in the background are some books, one of them you can clearly see, is THGTTG. :)
Hi umm just a thought but do u all not think the young girl looks like young version of rose from fathers day? defantly the eyes but the facial features too! maybe the doctor some how has changed rose's past. ive put a pic of young rose and the girl from this episode and they do look the same except thiis girl is like what...3 or 4 years older. so maybe when rose was like 9 or 10 this happened but the presant rose dosent remember it because it hasen't happened until now cos the doctor has JUST changed it and that might help rose to return.
WAIT A MINUTE! You know that picture, when the doctor looks like he's in the vortex, it could be that hes lokking at a space suit and hes using the sonic screwdriver on the blue light. or the space suit which belongs to the space suit creature.
I noticed that the word `space suit` was used too much in that comment
i think that prof river song was the doctors girlfriend in her past but that is the doctors future. thats why she has a sonic screw driver because the doctor gave it her. also if u go on the dr who website there is a new trailer in which river song says to the doctor "hello sweetie"
listening to the 1st preview clip without looking at it much I did a quick transcript of the dialogue.
Dr. Moon: Close your eyes and tell me What do you see?
The girl: The library.
Dr. Moon: Open your eyes again.
[The girl opens them]
Dr. Moon: And where are you now?
[A view behind girl shows a house across the street]
The girl: My living room Dr. Moon.
Dr. Moon: When you close your eyes?
The girl: I go to the library.
Dr. Moon: Let's go in there now.
[The girl closes her eyes and we get a view of the domed circular library room]
Dr. Moon: Are you back there?
The girl: Yes.
Dr. Moon: The same part?
[The girl floats down into the library and stands contentedly looking around]
The girl: No, it's always different. The library goes on forever.
Dr. Moon: How do you move around?
The girl: By wishing.
[Sound of banging on the library doors that have come into view. Cut back to the girls eyes closed up tightly, looking anxious]
Dr. Moon: What's wrong?
The girl: Something's wrong, someone's got in. No-one is supposed to get in.
The girl's Dad: She's never mentioned anyone else, she's always been alone.
The girl: [scared] Someone's in my library!
[More banging on the door and the doors start buckling]
The girl: No no please - (something I can't make out clearly) - it's not allowed!
Dr. Moon [trying to calm her] Listen to me - the library is in your mind.
The girl: [even more scared] I know it's in my mind, but something's got inside!
[back in the library the banging on the doors continues until the doors give way and The Doctor and Donna stumble into the room. The girl gapes at them open mouthed. The Doctor (on an adrenalin rush) looks around, grabs a book and jams it through the door handles to seal the doors shut again, Donna turns round and sees The girl. The Doctor does too. He smiles and walks towards The girl]
The Doctor: Ooh - hello. Sorry to burst in on you like this. Ok if we stop here for a bit?
[In the library the girl just gapes at the doctor and donna. In the girl's real world The girl opens her eyes suddenly and screams]
There's just a couple of lines I can't make out well enough. maybe one of you can catch it.
white trees are curtains or wallpaper
I'am asking the same question as the doctor how can a shadow be invected
"As the shadows rise and march, the Doctor forges an alliance with the mysterious River Song"
alliance, is that what they're calling it?
the real world is lie and her nightmares are real could be open- i mean her nightmares could really be happening eg the library and she is forseeing the events and she could be trapped in a drem or something eg her "real" world
maybe the pillar guys are data ghosts. It's said Donna meets Rose in this one and Rose warns Donna of the Daleks! Just wondering who saw Rose hiding behind a rock in the last minute of ep 2?
^^^
what? was she??
I think that the person with the tardis book could be rose, martha,Doctor's daugther or donna
OMG...Donna can't be dead...i mean, she's a Node which means she must be dead. Well, until next week i guess we'll just have to wait to find out!
i think that the nodes are all the people who were saved from the library because donnas node said it herself ''donna noble has been saved''
river song could be rose or susan but she said that the doctor doesntr no me not yet anyway but she knows him soo if it was rose or susan she wouldnt of said he doesnt no me yet
Well, supposidly its just an assistant who he loves :)
However, he would never give away his sonic, so my guess is that its him ..
Okay, so he has 13 regenerations, and he has used up 10 :) Because River song is so far into the future, perhaps the doctor had used up all of his regenerations and had to take on another form, her ! It would explain the sonic and why she had a book of all the places he had ever travelled :)
Oh yeah, and did anyone notice the device river song uses to make a hole in the wall, is identical to the one jack used in the doctor dances :)
I HAVE AN IDEA!!! Maybe The 'Mysterious veiled woman' is a 'Time librarian' and when Donna gets teleported, Images of Rose gets planted into her head. The cloaked woman takes her to different parts of her life 'Without the doctor'. She had the wedding, had kids and thats why she said that line.
DONNA GETS SHOT!! WOOOOOOT! I mean ;[.
Professor Riversong Is close to The Doctor for a fact! I THINK IT'S RELATED WITH ROSE OR THE DOCTOR!! Because the doctor said he would never lend his Sonic screwdriver to somebody. And they looked each other in their eyes just the way The Doctor and Rose looked. AAANDD!!! Do you remember in The Empty Child episode when The Doctor switched a banana with The Sonic Blaster. And then Rose took it and went Down? ROSE HADTHE SONIC BLASTER!
I Sawa picture of The Doctor getting shot by a Dalek. Only Time Will Tell.
"All Songs Must End"
Following my previous post, The Book is the Clue!
Looks like the Tardis and has spoilers in it. That means that it has something to do with the future. Inside that book is the whole of the future and the past. And in the next 2 episodes, Midnight, Some lady called Sky says he has to make a choice. A Choice between two people. And in Fires of Pompeii the soothsayer Said he Had To Make A Terrible Choice. ;]
Happy to help
jay-russell
To Lucy :) ,
Here's why you might be wrong:
1) I'm preety sure the doctor can only regenerate into a male form.
2)Riversong touched the doctor's face. If she was him, it would have created a paradox and the reapers from 'Father's Day' would return.
3)Lots of people are saying that Riversong is actually the doctor's future wife. This might be true as she mentioned them both going on a picnic together.
The doctor will probably meet her for the first time (in his time line) very soon because Riversong knows who Donna is... Probably in the Finale. Also, Jack (who will be appearing in the finale) might give her the square gun in the and she keeps it and uses it in the library later on.
Very complicated stuff...but its my guess!
Yeah :)
Good guess && plus, i think it is his future wife or lover :)
&& that sounds really good, jack giving her that thing, but how do we know shes in the finale ??
Or jack could give it to the doctor and the doctor gives it to her in the future :)
Just to add to the confusion, the pictures of Donna in the playground have a mysterious hooded figure in the same shot. And under the hood is the same actress who played Miss Evangilista! So perhaps she's not out of the story quite yet, or it's an alternate version of her
hello does anyone not remmeber rose is returning and she loves him and he loves her
does anyone think ose is staying or more series
Hello,
What if River Song is a future regeneration of the Doctor's Daughter?
Steve Moffat did request Jenny didn't die.
Could be how she has his sonic!
;)
River Song can't be Jenny because she called the doctor sweetie and pretty boy. She could be a regenerated Rose, is Rose indeed becomes a Time Lady because of the vortex thing in series 1,according to some theories. (She could even regenerate into River in the finale).
But I made a stupid observation. I've been seeing this weird curly statues throughout the season. Look at this strangely prominent one from silence of the library. It's right in your face when the video begins:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pkKVnRGv0mw
Now here's a video from Partners in Crime. It's on Foster's desk at 7:40 into the video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uW6AIZ65-kA&feature=related
They're not identical, but they are eerily similar. Kind of ties in with the whole Medusa Cascade thing. But it's probably just a stupid observation. Still, weird curly statues aren't common. I think they'res something to them.
I think River Song is his Daughter, not his wife or lover. She says to Donna "It should kill me, he looks right at me, and sees right through me" And her reaction when she found out who Donna was... was like.. Woooh... wait a minute... and then when Donna is one of those Librarian Nodes RiverSong says "It can't be Donna"
I think somehow , Riversong is Donna and the Doctors Daughter... Everyone keeps avoiding the fact that the running joke is, is that their not together...
Who would the doctor trust with his screw driver? His own flesh and Blood... Just a thought :)
I MIGHT BE ON TO SOMETHING ELSE!!!
The thing known as The Widow is dressed in black. Black Widow. A Type of spider. Might be a relative of the Racnoss!! AND when the girl see's the Doctor in her T.V. on the table behind her there is a figure like a cyberman. A Little robot doll ;]
Hoped that helped

How can River Song be Jenny ? Would she not have recognised Donna straight away ?
Continuing the 42 thing, now that the epoisode is over, there's another one as well, in the "4200 saved" - this does seem pretty twisted, this whole 42 thing.
My theory as far as Donna is concerned is that when it says "saved", it means "sent to the real/fake world" - which is why Donna ends up there, and she only ends up in a node, because I reckon everyone in the "real" world has to have some link to, or control over, whats in the library. Finally, has anyone noticed, "Dr. Moon" - didnt anyone think the nodes looked moon-shaped? Thats probably just a tacky coincidence, though. Obviously if Im right in this whole real world thing, the vortex bit is the Doctor going in to the other world to get Donna back.
Plus, did anyone notice that the girl never seemed to be named? at least not as far as I saw - so I reckon she is "Cal"...
Well, when you think about it, the reason donna's face could be on a node (is that what those statues are?) is because it's in the future, and if she's been sent to the TARDIS (which is out of time), then she existed previously, and died sometime in the past, in her normal time - so in the future she is dead! That's how she could be on a node, as they can only use dead people's faces! Sorry if I've confused anybody, but it's a possibility!
on the table behind her there is a figure like a cyberman. A Little robot doll
- Jay-Russell
Jay, the robot on the back shelf is Robbie the Robot from Lost in Space...and not a cyberman
regards Phil T-W
Apologies Robbie from the Forbidden Planet....

Has anybody else noticed how 'The Little Shop' has been mentioned in series 2, 3 and now 4. Is it another clue or does the doctor just honestly loves 'A little shop'??
woops, i brought up the thing about 4200 saved and thought that had significance - just realised it was actually 4022 - sorry
There's silence in the library
nobody's around
no flicking noise as pages turn
nothing, not a sound
this planet of books is infested with shadows
vashta nerada, pirahnas of the air
creepy shadows and a suit creature
step in the shadows, if you dare
who is the little girl?
who's the mysterious doctor moon?
why has donna turned into a node?
i hope we'll find out soon
but perhaps the biggest question of all
is who is river song?
has she met the doctor before?
has she known him all along?
I wonder if this helps but it could be that they take dead peoples faces and they take out everything in it and put a computerised brain after all it is the 51st century and also Jack came from the 51st century so he could give it to her as a wedding gift or something if she is the doctors lover/wife.
Oh and the sonic could be a gift or replica
river song says in forest of the dead something like ''i trust this man to the end of the universe in fact ive been there with him''
this meens she must be either the doctor which is very unlikely.
jack which is very likely.
or martha which is impossible.
hope that helped a little
Silence in the Library only got 5.4million viewers unlike its usual 6 or 7 or 8 million. Its because of stupid Britain's Got Talent! I hope this doesn't mean the end of the new series!I thought the episode was fantastic, so scary! Great site by the way!
Well i have one theory and one opinion.....
I think that the world that the girl lives in is some kind of artificial world, a bit like the matrix, but i get a suspicion that it's not the real world, as Doctor Moon is making the girl believe. Also there's something strange with the dad....
For those of you that have seen 2001: A Space Odyssey, have you noticed that the whole 2 parter is paying homage to it? I mean CAL for starters is clearly a take off of HAL, and they're both probably supercomputers (well HAL definitely is).
Also, in the 'next time' bit, notice when that guy says "we've got to save CAL!" or something, he's wearing the same spacesuit as the guy wears in 2001 when hes shutting down HAL. Also, the bright red books on the millions of bookcases i think are also a take off of the room where HAL is shut down from.
Sorry I'm a bit of a 2001 nerd but I think they definitely put an element of 2001 in there on purpose.
P.S. The relaxed voice those library AI informants with the human faces put on is exactly like HAL's too. Sorry. Had to say that as well....
I have a feeling that Dr. Moon is bad
By the way, please tell me you noticed that strange closeup of Donna's overly large ring when she touches the Doctor to tell him that the shadow moved.
There was another strange shot of that ring in Posion Sky when she said goodby to her granddad. That's got to be something VERY significant.
But think about what the soothsayer at pompeii said, 'there's something on your back'. first thing that popped into my mind is Planet of the Spiders (last John Pertwee saga). I suspect the widow is the queen of spiders from Metebelis III, and the child is a conduit to maintain the library as the inhabitants of the girl's world are those saved from the vashta nerada
Ok where do i start? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pkKVnRGv0mw . Has anyone else noticed the park? the very same park that the tardis apperead at in the ephisode Army of ghosts. Donna getting hit by a van, rose kneeling beside her; fathers day repeat? People wearing christmas out fits? Donna's grandad was gardening it's spring not christmas? Mickey smith and doctor moon similar?
The thing on Donna's back and other things mentioned in the post above are in episode 11
We know that the "widow" is played by the same actress who played Miss Evangelistia, so its hight probable that its the same character...
Obviously I have no real idea, but I somehow doubt that spiders will have much to do with the episode.
hi new fiend
hi all do you thibk that river song could [possibly be the rani would explain the reason she knows the doctor?
Anyone seen the exclusive clip on the bbc website?
River Song definatley whispers something into the doctors ear in order to prove to him he will one day trust her.
Also, script extract:
(small but helps...)
OD: Who is he? You haven't even said, you just expect us to trust him.
RS: He's the Doctor.
L: And who's the Doctor?
RS: The only story you'll ever tell - if you survive him.
A: You say he's your friend. But he doesn't even know who you are.
RS: All you need to know is this: I'd trust this man to the end of the universe - and actually, we've been.
reckon she'll whisper a Rose spoiler?
from what she's implying though it would mean the Doctor's in this current regeneration for a very long time.
DAMN YOU MOFFAT ♥
the girl is called Elle!
Uh oh it vashta nerada the suit creature and shadows they are doomed forever
