Planet Gallifrey: Feature Spotting

Feature Spotting

So! There has been many a lengthy discussion about the story arc and whatnot, and a few things I've noticed be these:

ATMOS
Seen as a notice on a Taxi.

Phil Collinson: Theres something about that Taxi that you should keep you eye out for.
Tennant: The art department are able to start laying a few little hints for something thats coming up later in the series.

Summery for The Sontaran Stratagem:
Having covertly established a base at the mysterious ATMOS Factory aided by the Rattigan Academy, the Sontarans unleash a potent terror which brings the world to its knees.

Atmos is also Greek for "vapor", leading people to link it to atmos-phere = The Poison Sky

Dalek Doodle?
I'm not as sure about this one, but does that drawing on the wall look a tad Dalek-like?

DUST
What looked like the word/initials DUST appeared in the episode behind Miss Foster during her presentation, although its now believed that this was just part of the word "inDUSTries"

Bees
During a conversation with the Doctor on the rooftops, Donna mentioned that all the Bees are apparently disappearing. It may be nothing but because the Doctor follows it up and questions it, it might be more significant than we think...

And then of course theres this:

There we go! Let the speculating commence... err... further!

I don't think DUST is a story-arc. I was quite convinced that it was actually just inDUSTries where the first and last letters were cut off.

My guess is that ATMOS will probably be the story line though Rose has some potential too.

Nice spot on the Dalek doodle btw..

Jess said...

InDUSTries makes a lot of sense, I think I'm backing ATMOS the most at the moment.

musicfreak2k10 said...

hehe nice spotting - i was looking out for stuff on the wall (with the dalek doodle, which i didnt notice) like the saxon poster in smith and jones.
i am going to go for ATMOS as being relevant...

Combom said...

YES i agree about DUST now, i never thought it was part of inDUSTries :)

i think the drawing is coincidental set-dressing.

My money is on ATMOS for meaning something atm :)

Combom said...

i wonder if we will see rose a lot, in 30 second snips, looking for the doctor?

Anonymous said...

hey Jess i was one of the people who suggested ATMOS and im sure many others did too thanks for putting it up im so grateful!

Anonymous said...

atmos or rose seems to be the sort off story arc thing for this series id say. maybe rose will keep eappering in each episode randomly like she is slipping through the void

Anonymous said...

i think Rose might be somethin like on series 3 when Marthas mum and those saxon people kept appearin now and then

Anonymous said...

if we look in the next episode ATMOS might not be there cos its like recent not in far past ish

Kendall said...

So I'd go with Atmos and the bees--just b/c we know there's a big wasp later on in the series . . .

Also, here's a question for you: In this episode, Rose is wearing the same thing she has on in the pictures we have of the last few episodes. Do you think this all happens in the same day for her? Or that they did all of Billie Piper's filming at once, and just didn't bother changing her outfit? I'd go with the latter, but I thought I'd see what you all thought.

Jess said...

I reckon Rose'll be wearing the same cloths for a reason. It takes a few minutes to change outfit and I've known actors to change at least 3 times during a shoot...

Anonymous said...

as soon as UNIT were in the last episodes of series 3 quite briefly and they sed they had dropped it in on the last few episodes well did anyone notice anything about UNIT in partners in crime 4 the arc?

n.t. said...

One of the episode titles for the Sontaran two-parter is 'The Poison Sky.'

Atmos...phere.

Connection?

Unknown said...

I'm mainly thinking about the fact that Rose only seems half present -- it's not clear to me that she actually sees or is aware of Donna talking to her. Whether she's looking for the Doctor or not, Rose has never been that quiet a character before.

Steffan said...

I came up with an idea maybe this isnt rose as you can see she just disappear, human can't do that.

Combom said...

RE: ATMOS - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Sontaran_Stratagem

now look for the word "atmos"

thought about this, possibly the "tie" for the stories will be rose, as she is trying to contact the doctor from the other dimension (which will soon collapse)

jordangrigg said...

good points, but, ATMOS looks to me more like AMOS. dalek doodle, no way, its has arrows out back and front of a triangle. Dust, is obviously inDUSTries. the bees thing is a good point, maybe heating up of the earth, parallel torchwood has been experimenting, and Rose is imprinted on this earth to have a look for the doctor, cause she looks worried like she needs his help, so yer, thats my views

Anonymous said...

I think that the bees may have somthing to do with it. I can't remeber where i saw it but RTD said that there wasn't an arc but things within each story may have consequences in the last two episodes! I think one is Cloning.Somthing that the Sontarans are very good at!As for the bees? could Donna mean wasps like the giant ones in The Unicorn and the Wasp?

Anonymous said...

ATMOS and the bees could be significant.

heres my theories -

the episode 'turn left' with rose and donna could be related to partners in crime cos rose is wearing same outfit. maybe there is some sort of time loop or something that has donna back in this episode's day - didn't i read somewhere donna gets hit by a van? there was that van speeding in this episode to capture the adipose. maybe times events change - something alluded to in the next episode me thinks when donna wants to change events?

also, i think the 'Shadow Proclamation' has a part to play in series 4 (are they the daleks hiding in the shadows?).

another thing i noticed like other people - the doctor dropped the sonic device into the bin? the car keys could be significant aswell.

finally, do you think the adipose are being used by davros to create new daleks?

Rose being in episode 1 was fantastic twist! doctor who rules!

Anonymous said...

Anyone else that noticed that when Rose walks away, it doesn't sound like congrete she walking on, more like "normal" floor, so am I the only one thinking Torchwood? :D

Anonymous said...

Wasn't there a suggestion earlier that the companions might go through their lives without having ever met the Doctor? If time gets messed up it could well link in with the theory that Donna gets hit by the van and everything happens in the same night, etc.

Anonymous said...

I've noticed a different symbol: in Miss Foster office right behind her desk (or behind her back mostly when she sat there) there's a big picture/logo that looks VERY similar to Master's ring logo and the one they've used in Lazarus Experiment.
It's not exactly the same and it's painted red, but the basic swirling circles structure is the same.
Might be a little hint to Master coming back or mentioned in a way or another?
Did anyone else noticed it?

Anonymous said...

I love this site. So full of conspiracy theorists. Just kidding! :)

But seriously, I think it would be really awesome if Rose made a small cameo in every episode. Even if it was just her name or something, to remind everybody she's coming back! I dunno. :)

Anonymous said...

didn't see the Logo on the wall..could be. Also the Shadow Proclamation were talked about by the 9th Doctor when meeting the Nestene in 'Rose'. The ground did sound funny as Rose walked away...could she be a hologram? Like Al in Quantum Leap? And did the Doctor put that pen in the bin on purpose.. bit silly leaving it around for anybody to pick up don't you think?

Anonymous said...

Oooh! The "atmos" thing is intriguing!

Someone mentioned the Doctor throwing the pen away having some significance and I have to agree. Right afterwards we seen the journalist (can't remember the character name) telling the Doctor and Donna that they are "both mad" and that she going to report them. Am I weird in thinking that she might have significance in the the future? The Doctor and Donna just shrugged her off and that's why it caught my eye. Maybe she finds the pen?

Just a random thought.

Anonymous said...

Just watched Partners in Crime again..the logo on the wall is a bit like the Master's ring logo..But also Miss Foster have blood red nails..Like the "Hand" that picked up the Master's Ring! Food for thought! If the ring was an up dated version of the pocket watch, it may have the Master in it! Put the ring on say..a clone of his body and bobs your Uncle he's back!

Dara said...

I think Rose will be back in The Poison Sky. She might hear the TARDIS taking off but it vanishes before she gets to it! She could be monitoring alien attacks on Earth and goes there knowing that she'll find the Doctor!

Also, ATMOS could be initials for something.

All
The
Mega
Odd
Sontarans?

Any other ideas on that one?

all the monsters of sontar?

I don't really think it's an acronym, though. (See my post above.)

WOW -
http://conspiracyfactory.blogspot.com/2007/04/colony-collapse-disorder-bees-on-run.html

Anonymous said...

I think that Rose is unaware that she is seen in the normal world, like the worlds are slowly merging. She might be looking at a similar scene in the parallel world, like there was an adipose invasion there. So she might just be looking out on behalf of torchwood because it didn't seem like she really acknowledged Donna.

Anonymous said...

That seems unlikely, since it's only Rose who appeared.
I'd wager it has something to do the the 'Heart of the Tardis / vortex energy' from Series 1. But that's just my guess. ;)
I hope we get a glimpse of Davros soon too!

BaaBaaDooFarm said...

In the commentary, Donna said whatever the taxi dealie was was sort of "retrofitted" which the ART dept. (who are good at making logos and graffitti :)) was able to do because it was actually number 4 in filming order.

If we know what three eps were shot before it, we know which ones to look for. Does anyone know how to find a list of the actual, chronological series 4 shooting schedule?

Anonymous said...

Also, the TAXI sign lit up; we see a disabled sign. Probably nothing, but is this normal for taxis? I thought it was a tiny hint at Davros?

Combom said...

just thought of this, rose always looks happy, all smiles, but in this she wasnt!

Anonymous said...

Why do you guys think that is ATMOS?
Isn't that AMOS?

? said...

It's deffo. ATMOS

ATMOS-phere ;)
links to Poison Sky ;)

Anonymous said...

It's ATMOS in the Radio Times preview.

And while it plays directly into the Sontaran story the finale episodes seem to be taking place after some sort of enviromental disaster as well.

Combom said...

Im sure i've posted this here b4, but here ATMOS is explained!

:)

Anonymous said...

Who are the Rattigan Academy? And why are UNIT working with them in episodes 4 and 5?

Conan said...

I don't know if somebody's already mentioned this because I can't be bothered to read through 40 comments, but there isn't a story arc as such in series 4. Rusty (Russell T Davies) says they'll be no obvious words like Bad Wolf, Torchwood and Mr Saxon, but there will be something taken from every episode (eg a person, word) to lead up to the finale. He also dropped a big hint that there will be as many companions as published: Martha, Rose, Donna, Jack and Sarah Jane.

:)

great posts. I can't believe how quickly you update.

BLOCK 2: Planet of the Ood, The Unicorn and the Wasp
BLOCK 3: The Fires of Pompeii
BLOCK 4: Partners in Crime
BLOCK 5: The Sontaran Stratagem, The Poison Sky
BLOCK 6: The Doctor's Daughter, Midnight
BLOCK 7: Turn Left
BLOCK 8: Silence in the Library, Forest of the Dead
BLOCK 9: TBA, Journey's End

That's odd.

Rose looks at the very least, a lot more grown up and serious (not at all smiles), but more like sinister to me.
I've always thought it'd be a more interesting storyline if they brought back evil Rose or some variation on the theme.
Something like: Davros is holding her family hostage and forcing her to find Doctor or something happened to her in the last year (2 years?) that changed her and she may not be looking for a Doctor just to reunite with him.
I mean, music had that tone too. It's as if she was calculating something. Of course, this could all change in the last 3 episodes, but I think it'll make more intricate storyline.

Kendall said...

I don't think the music can be accused of being sinister. It was from Doomsday, and it's pretty much Rose's song. From a soundtrack standpoint, it was perfect, because it was the music we heard when we last saw Rose, and the music we hear when we are reunited. Plus that song always makes me sort of suck in my breath when I hear it, so I think it was a spectacular entrance.

n.t. said...

tipsykw, I agree. I noticed that they transposed Doomsday (the sad Rose tune) with Donna's theme as both Rose and Donna walked off - Donna to go with the Doctor, Rose to vanish into thin air.

I don't think the Adipose have any connection to the Sontarans or Daleks. The ATMOS logo on the taxi makes me think it's a car company or something - and that makes a tiny bit of sense. Cars pollute the ATMOSphere, episode title is "Poison Sky"... completely fits what I've been saying, which may or may not be complete rubbish.

Anonymous said...

maybe this ATMOS factory used to make cars or something

from read, the scene when donna is telling rose that \'if a blonde women comes looking that the keys are in the bin\' will happen again, i saw a glimpse of the script and the blonde women wasn\'t given a name unlike in partners in crime. this scene is meant to happen in the last episode! so this links in with the rumour of companions living there life without meeting the doctor! gets better ! the license plates have changed! i dont think it was a mistake, i think it was meant to be! if rose had came through the void, both the cybermen and the daleks would have broke loose! so if i am right which i probly maybe! this means that the doctor will be removed from time and its up to the companions to save him. in the radio times preview, it says for episode \'turn left\' that the doctor has gone, donna needs help and only one women can help her and she is in a parrallel world and is thought to be lost forever. Even though davros has not been confirmed by RTD, BBC or DWM, it has been confirmed from several tv guides! Rose is wearing the same clothes right? this could mean this all happens in one night! somthing else to back this up! on the planet gallifrey blogspot website under finale it says that a group of people are outside a pub looking up at the sky! e.g. people including donna\'s mum looking at the adipose ship! BUT there is a slight difference! they are celebrating somthing as some are wearing party hats! now this is really racking my brain that this will happen in the same night, john simm was signed to do two weeks filming in november, so hinting at a return as the master? there is a character in the finale named \'little red riding hood\' who is possibly a red dalek who is infact harriet jones! OMG! i know. but this could have somthing to do with the rani/miss foster (arc word RED) \'red nails\' \'red dalek\' .
tell me what you think!

I think DUST was an homage to Little Britain and fat fighter's Marjory Dawes. When advising her fat fighters what to eat she sometimes referred to "dust". It just happened to fit in with what Miss Foster said when shown behind her.

next time you feel peckish, have a bit of dust. anyone, no, dust, anyone no dust, i luv little britain. davros was kinda confirmed on the cbbc newsround website, well a half man half dalek ws anyway, but thats gotta be him

the A is bigger in 'ATMOS' does that mean it is the main word?

Anonymous said...

Anyone else think the garbage bin grafitti looks like a wolf? That was probably a hint that Rose was coming in a few minutes.

Kendall said...

Dang, Anonymous (you know, big long anonymous), I almost felt like I needed spoiler warnings on that one! I've heard a theory like this before (feel a bit like I did speculating about the last Harry Potter ;-)), and at first I thought it was completely mad! And I'm an American, so I don't use that phrase often! But more and more I'm thinking it could be close, because the new series has, for the most part, been about doing new things, going over the top, and surprising the audience (eg. Rose in epi 1). None of the theories I have thought of/read (that sound at least feasible--aka, not crazy, evil dalek Rose) are rather surprising or over the top. So I guess what I'm saying is--you might be onto something. How'd you get a glimpse of a script anyway?

PS. No offense to you crazy, evil dalek Rose fans! I just think it's improbable . . .

Anonymous said...

Hi tipsykw
its a very long story and very tiring to get a glimpse. i can cofirm most of the events are going to happen and i honestly think that the parallel worlds are merging! if you want to talk about it more and discuss theories add me on msn

There are actually problems with bee populations declining around the world. Particularly bumblebees in the UK. So I doubt the bee comment is particularly relevant to the show.

Jess said...

Yup, theres actually no such thing as the British bee anymore, they all died out in the war. All the bees we have are from elsewhere.

Anonymous said...

Hm, you people come up with some intriguing suggestions of what is about to happen. ;)

Anonymous said...

oooh 'elsewhere', are we over run with alien bees? lol. but donna said that she thought he was connected. surely if she had found it on the internet it would have explained about why theyre dissapearing.

Anonymous said...

True, but it still could just mean nothing.

Anonymous said...

Bees disappearing, I've heard, has something to do with cell phones and the like.

In fact, I saw something once on TLC that there was this lady in Britain (Colonist, here. :P) who is actually allergic to cell phone radiation... That would be Doctor-worthy...

And, holy crap, I agree with the poster with the long theory of time-loop, what have you ... I bet it IS something just like that... which kind of seems unfair. I about shat myself when Rose turned around. I want more screentime/Doctortime for her!!!!!

Anonymous said...

Yeah, the Shadow Proclamation was mentioned by the Ninth Doctor in "Rose" when he was talking to the Nestene Consciousness (correct me if I'm wrong). And Rose tried to turn it against the Sycorax in "Christmas Invasion", and I think Ten mentioned it again in "Fear Her."

I agree with combom on this one, it seems like some sort of interplanetary Monroe Doctrine.
