The One-th Hour!

Radio Free Skaro report that Matt Smith's debut episode will be... an hour long! Exciting news! Also, they managed to get the supposed press release early, sparking some mega speculation...

A new era of Doctor Who begins in Spring 2010. This latest series of the BBC’s flagship drama programme sees Matt Smith’s debut as the new, Eleventh incarnation of the famous Time Lord alongside a new travelling companion, the enigmatic Amy Pond (Karen Gillan).

Together they explore 16th century Venice, France during the 1890s and the United Kingdom in the far future, now an entire nation floating in space.

As always, wherever the Doctor goes, his oldest enemies are never far behind – the Daleks are hatching a new master plan from the heart of war-torn London in the 1940s. But they are not the only strange creatures the Doctor and Amy must face – there are also alien vampires. humanoid reptiles, old enemies such as the Weeping Angels, a Star Whale, and a silent menace that follows Amy and the Doctor around wherever they go…

In other news...
Goodness Gracious Me and EastEnders star, Nina Wadia, has landed a role in the upcoming series as a villain! Her old co-star Meera Syal also got a part some time ago.

Alien vampires?
What? Do aliens get their blood sucked out by HUMAN vampires? Or are vampires alien?
The latter makes a bit sense.
I wonder if the Twilight vampires are aliens...probably not...

Let's try and see what information we can amass from this...

"16th century Venice", "Alien Vampires" = Vampires in Venice, obviously

1890s France = hmm... Vincent and the Doctor? The Gareth Roberts episode? (More likely it's Gareth; he's good at historical episodes).

It could be the Dreyfus Affair! It happened in the 1890s in France, and I can see why it's would be held under wraps, it's pretty political... but would Doctor Who "go there"?

Space UK = Possibly a one-off (could be Gareth Roberts) or maybe it's the setting for the finale?

Daleks in 1940s = Victory of the Daleks

Humanoid reptiles = Silurian two-parter

Weeping Angels = River Song two-parter (it seems)

Star Whale = likely a low-budget episode, maybe one that's Doctorcentric (or Doctor and Rorycentric). Could feature the TARDIS swallowed by an intergalactic whale (if so, sounds like something Simon Nye would do, possibly, considering it may be Doctor and Rory centric which fits well with Nye's past writing credentials)

Silent menace = this series' big villain? The one that Moffat said would appear in every episode?

Space Uk - My guess would be The Beast Below, makes sense based on the title.

I don't understand. Aren't they always an hour long?

"enigmatic" Amy Pond????
Wonder what that is about

Isn't The Beast Below the episode with the weird monks and maybe the creature that can take the shape of a TARDIS (as Moffat hinted at in his DWM interview)?

They're normally only a hour long because of commercials, the actual episode being 40-45 minutes.

Kendall, the episodes run time are usually 45-ish minutes. With commercials it takes up an hour. The Eleventh Hour run time will take up 60-ish minutes. 15 Minutes longer than usual.

The 2008-2010 specials have been quite longer than 45 minutes. ;)

eek! The Weeping Angels totally freaked me out the first time around! not again! :p

Seriously, looking forward to this series! Though I am still on the fence about the new doctor. I'll have to see how he does. I'm never one who likes change, LOL!

The silent menace that follows Amy and the Doctor around is the menacing monk, who is ment to be played by lee evans

Lee Evans has already played someone in the last year, and it was very clear Malcolm was no Time Lord.

River Song will appear in 2 stories; the first and final two-parters (episodes 4, 5, 12 & 13).

I love Doctor Who, and I'm excited about this new season coming out-- but can they just get away from Daleks for a while? They were supposed to be destroyed, and then one showed up, then 5, then a whole bunch of 'em. I think the Doctor needs to find a way to finally destroy them for good, and then the writers can start working on a new, scarier foe.... and then bring the daleks back in a couple seasons. :) lol
