Calling all Doctor Who fans - this is huge news! The BBC have revealed that the next series of Doctor Who will be split into two parts - one in Spring and one in Autumn.
The split transmission is the result of a request from Steven Moffat to write a new Doctor Who story arc which involves a big plot twist in the middle of the series. By splitting the series Moffat plans to give viewers one of the most exciting Doctor Who cliffhangers and plot twists ever, leaving them waiting, on the edge of their seats, until the autumn to find out what happens.
Steven Moffat said: "The split series is hugely exciting because viewers will be treated to two premieres, two finales and more event episodes. For the kids it will never be more than a few months to the next Doctor Who! Easter, Autumn, Christmas!!"
We will get 7 episodes in Spring and 6 in Autumn.

omgggg
No :(
I'm not sure how I feel
On one hand I'll hate how short the first half will be before it ends making me wait months
but that might actually work really well especially if it leaves us wanting more
I don't like this...
So it's 6 in Spring and 6 in Autumn? Meh
funking gay. this is what americans do, and it geigh!
In Moffat we trust.
Yeah Americans do it, but they get back loads of viewers and it's a good device for a huge story :)
when moffat says he has a plot twist and to exciting series finals we know its going to be crap
Moff hasn't let us down so far...
series 5 was a complete let down
Well then don't watch it anymore...
:S
giving up on my favourite show is like giving up on a family member, series 5 was like having an arguement it was all wrong and awful, i am still watching the show because i am waiting for it to turn back into doctor who, not doctor dw who the fairy tale series with multi coloured telitubie "daleks"
americans do it because they have around 26 episodes
i would prefer 26 25-minite episodes
I guess that's how Sky One plan to go head to head with Doctor Who in the autumn when they screen Sinbad. And to think The Sun was actually right.
/shiver
WOW! so many people didn't like series 5 and don't like the idea of a 6 and 6.5!
i love that idea, i really like the idea of a HUGE cliff hanger, and being a kid i like that doctor who is only a few months away! and as for series 5 i absolutly loved it, i love the new daleks! i am so inspired i make my own stories and play them with my figures!
well done moff!!
Typical of today's BBC... Dr Who is just a TV show, there's no need to turn it into a big song and dance act. Everything these days has to be MASSIVE EVENTS and HUMUNGOUS PLOT TWISTS!!!!! What's wrong with just telling stories?
Meh.
If Moffatt asked to do it, and it works for the story, then I'm all for it.
NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
Never mind doctor who, where does this leave shows like merlin will it be allowed to air. Doctor who's good but it's lost something that it had for last 4 series
And by the way the new daleks look like oversized plastic toys, utter rubbish
I think Merlin will still continue to air :)
I'm sorry, but I don't like seeing the word 'gay' being used for something bad on here! Aren't there any moderators present?
George, I'm with you! The only sensible post here!!
Ah well, I guess I start watching Who in Autumn...
yeah, Americans have 20-26 episodes, so it's not quite so bad. however, I'M american and i don't like it at all!
Its obvious the Thousand Mokeys, that Moffet has chained to a wall to write his works have escaped and he needs to catch some more.
Until then he'll have to do with the two Monkey's he was able to salage ;-D
I'd rather not have a Split series, my attention span is bad enough without having to wait to see what happens, I'll have forgotten what happened in the first part!
By the time it Aired in Australia :-(
Really not sure what to think about this. On the good side, less of a break between fall and christmas, and more time for fan theories. On the bad side, waiting for a few months for the resolution of a cliffhanger. I really hope this doesn't ruin the series, too many changes in too short a time are not promising...
But as long as I still have Who, I'm fine with the changes.
hell yes!! I love a good cliffhanger! I hope that we find out who River is!
(sigh)
more lame finales..
Splitting the story arc may work for the overall series and maybe it would even benefit. However, it's more likely this is to help combat the slumping viewing figures that arrive mid-series. The BBC sees two premieres plus two finales as double ratings bumps.
About series 5, it always takes a season for a crew to settle in. I found myself watching it as I watched series 1. There were good episodes and bad ones. In my opinion there were less gaping plot holes. Plus, the expectation for Moffat's debut were unreachable. Keep an open mind and enjoy!
