Sinbad to go into a ratings war with Doctor Who

From The Sun:

SINBAD the Sailor faces his toughest challenge yet - a ratings war with Doctor Who.

Sky1's 13-part series of the classic tale, costing up to £2million an episode, will go out at the same time as the Time Lord's series in autumn 2011.

Bosses are still looking to cast the lead role for the family drama - and may launch UK-wide auditions to find a sexy and young unknown star to play a 21-year-old Sinbad.

Sky1 controller Stuart Murphy said: "It is by far our biggest show next year.
"Doctor Who is aimed at one type of family - our show will be for a younger, cooler family who like sexy, cool heroes."

Sky still attempting to combat the BBC with a bland attempt to sway viewers by conveniently putting it at the same time. They will fail. National beats commercial.

Whoever wrote this article in The Sun is a complete moron, first-of-all as everyone knows by now that Doctor Who airs throughout April, May and June, not in the autumn. Secondly, what the Sky1 controller (apparently) said about Doctor Who being aimed at one type of family also shows that he is a bit of a moron as well as we know full well the enormously wide range of people who watch Doctor Who.
In my opinion, this is just the same as the other story about Cumberbatch turning down the part of the Doctor: a not very clever attempt to boost sales for the paper.

Um.. Doctor who goes out in spring not autumn.

Actually, this is the Sun getting it wrong again. Doctor Who is broadcast in the Spring, not the Autumn.

So Sinbad might be on Saturdays in the same time slot Doctor Who has, but half a year after Doctor Who has broadcast. Sinbad is not going head to head with Doctor Who.

I suspect this is a bid by one arm of Murdoch's empire to generate more buzz for another arm by mentioning Doctor Who. Seems to have worked.

Ha, fools.

That's alright. Many people with Sky1 access have the ability to record it, and those who don't have iPlayer. Doctor Who ratings shouldn't take much of a hit.

Well since I bittorrent the show anyways I'm looking forward to watching both Sinbad and the doctor.

Though one thing has me puzzled and in dread: the Time Lord's series in autumn 2011.

Does this mean we have to wait more than a year for the return of the doctor in series 6 instead of the regular Spring broadcast?

Thanks Sky 1, for determining how old I am and how cool I am.

And apparently Matt Smith and David Tennant are some hideous, boring heroes.

Don't you hate those boring heroes?

Ah well I'll probably watch Sinbad though.

Hang on scince when was Doctor Who in autumn.

The thing that caught my eye from this news piece was that instead of Spring 2011 for series six its now Fall 2011. This is the first I've heard that they were moving from spring to autumn. I guess they were afraid of a repeat of this past years lower ratings.

Doctor who is broadcasted in spring, is it not? (April)

And the first nail of the Doctor Who coffin is inserted. Go Sky1!

Doctor Who 2011 series in AUTUMN?? And the Sun knows this for certain do they; even though the BBC have confirmed no air date.

Ratings War? Slaughter more like. Who in their right mind would launch a new series against an established ratings winner and expect to win? Stuart (not-in-his-right-mind) Murphy.

'One type of family'? Slighting Doctor Who fans isn't the best way to attract an audience. Guessing he never went to PR training unless it had AT on the end!!

when was it confirmed that Dr. Who was being aired in the autumn?? and sky 1 doesn't get that many viewers, probably about 3 million at the most, so Dr.Who will easily thrash it :D

They're calling out one of the longest running science-fiction shows on television. Bad idea.

Given that it's The Sun talking, I have my doubts that the Sky person even said this.
