It's official! The Doctor can regenerate...

507 times! Yes, as revealed today in The Sarah Jane Adventures, the Doctor informed Clyde that he can, in fact, regenerate 507 times as opposed to the previously believed 12.

What happened to spoiler warnings? :P

Sounded like a quick joke to me.

:D

Katy has gotta come back again - absolutely brilliant story. 507? who cares!

You know this was only a joke XD

Nope, I am pretty sure they had said that the regeneration limit would be corrected in the SJA episode ;)

507. 5+0+7=12. Hahahahahaha.

It's a throw away line for goodness sake! Look at the context of when it was said!

Nope, it's a joke. It's only canon if he doesn't say it in that tone and it comes from Steven Moffat's script. RTD had his chance.

This is RTD, always joking to anger and p*** off the fans. It's open to interpret :)

you DUMBOES just because RTD wrote it doesnt make it non-canon. RTD wrotte the episode, does that make the 11th Doctor un-real. idiots, obviously steven moffat and rtd worked it out together,

god you lot are such dumb conservative prix sometumz.

I agree with the anonymous post of 27/10/2010 10:46 - clearly this proves that RTD's tenure isn't canon as he can't even draw from the mythos consistently. I salute your bravery, Anonymous, in daring to say that the 11th Doctor is unreal; about time commonsense was spoken ...

Was Matt's acting that bad (no!) that you don't understand a glib repely to a question you'd rather not answer. Watch the scene again in context!! I don't know about TV dumbing down but its audience certainly has. I agree Katy must make a return.

I think given the way it was said it could be considered as a throw away comment BUT, I think there will have to be some kind of confirmation of this in the Christmas one possibly. Maybe an idea between RTD and SM to have us going nuts over it for 2 months, lol

I'll just leave this here...

*shrug*

I hope it is only 12, so they can cancel the show once and for all, and everyone can whine about how much they miss it and that they never should've said just 12 times.

I agree, it's just a joke-response that he made to avoid but not avoid the question..

Hmm personally i think that the Doctor will regenerate more than 13 times, maybe it is 507 who knows BUT in the Big Bang episode everything was reset and the Doctor was wiped and then Amy remembered him and he was real, maybe that reset his lives to 0 again? thats my guess, but even if 507 was a joke the BBC will make a story up for the Doctor when he hits no 14 so the show can carry on

Can I just ask how a comment like this;

Was allowed to be put up? Unless it's supposed to be sarcasm?

It was a glib response to Clyde's torrent of nagging questions.

And in response to the piece in the Guardian, that's an opinion piece based ENTIRELY on the mention in the episode. No confirmation of "Canon-icity" from the BBC, RTD or Moffat.

Hmm I'm sure I flagged that comment as 'spam' =/

*is the person who posted the Guardian article*

...My mistake, then.

.....I still hope they get rid of the regeneration limit, though. I would hate to see my second-favorite show taken off the air all because of "staying true to canon."

As close to canon as we'll get: http://www.sfx.co.uk/2010/10/26/interview-russell-t-davies-talks-about-that-sarah-jane-adventures-line/

I didn't see the episode. So the Doctor claimed he can regenerate 507 times, eh? (Despite the fact that back in the 70s and 80s, the Master and Azmael both showed us what happens when a Time Lord runs out of regenerations?)
Okay then. I'll just file that away with the Eighth Doctor's claim to be half human, and Nine's claim to be Father Christmas.

Anonymous said...

this is true it said in the paper that the doctor will have unlimited lives but not actually 507 specifically because be honest do you really think doctor who will stay on for another 496 doctors.

Anonymous said...

Maybe the Doctor took the Ring of Rassilon when he stole The Moment to end the Time War ....

The Timlord said...

Shut up everyone, who cares if he has 507 regenerations or not, because I don't and anyway when he runs out of regenerations and such they will either end the show, introduce a new main charactor or give him a new regeneration cycle.
