It wasn't a particularly good night for Doctor Who at the NTAs, where it lost both categories. Moffat's Sherlock also lost in both categories. Some say it's because of the quality of the show, some say it's due to a lack of interest. What do you think?
We did, however, get this little gem:
Dermot for the next companion?
Naaah...

Quality of the show? Lack of interest?
What show are these people talking about? 8-)
It's because of Sherlock, obviously. Audience and fans for both shows are pretty much the same, so votes had to be split in two.
I bet next year it will be possible to choose more than one option!
And I'd rather have these two shows without awards than one with!
Anyone who is saying it's because of the quality of the show is obviously ignoring the high ratings, the critical acclaim, the etc. The NTNs are meaningless. If you think the future of the show tied into the fact the vote got split or perhaps the powers that be didn't want to see DW win 6 years running, then you might as well stop watching Doctor Who.
I'd say mixed voting for both Who and Sherlock. Neither getting a majority.
It cannot possibly be because of the quality of the show - both season 5 and Sherlock received solid ratings and were critically well received. I don't know the show that won, but maybe it had a stronger campaign. Just one of those things I guess, open polls so very rarely reflect any true sense of quality.
That Sherlock probably took away some of the votes that Doctor Who would have normally got is my best guess.
Well, personally I think that the quality did drop during Series 5 (well, didn't fit my tastes as much as previous series) -- I found that the dramatic, emotional moments that DT could bring to the show, and Matt probably could too, if given the chance, well, he wasn't given the chance, which is why I think Series 6 (from the look of the trailer) will be much better... Couple that with Sherlock, and I think there's the reason.
I don't follow the awards much at all, I'll admit. I do think that, while awesome, there were definitely little kinks in the show last season (that being said, I loved it and own it). For example, the Silurian doctor is this heartless being who is cutting people up while alive and then suddenly he's this really sweet guy. What was with that? The filming style changed too--and no one likes change (at first at least). Many of the individual frames often move faster (or something is faster in the filming, not the script). It is faster to the point that it can be jarring (not to me, but to friends of mine). Anyway, I know that awards mean nothing, but I do think that the show changed a bit. I'll be critical on my favorite diversion and say that I thought the season, while brilliant, was a bit shaky at times. Now the Christmas special... :D
I don't believe it is a split vote, doctor who is unfortunately losing it's audience and it's easy to deny this but a lot of people preferred the older series it was more fun and exciting, it's lost its way.
I love both shows, My dad got my kids and I hooked onto Sherlock and we were disappointed about the short running of the show but other then that we loved it!! And Doctor Who!! Well talk about a long time running household favorite!! However If I may state one obvious thing, David Tennant did win it every year!!...lol
DOCTOR WHO IS AWESOME!!!!!! David Tennat rocks!
