Christmas Special

The Next Doctor

Episode Location: Victorian England, 1851
Aliens/Enemies: Cybermen, Cybershades, Miss Hartigan
New Characters: Rosita, The Other Doctor
Gadgets Used: Sonic screwdriver
Episode Objective: Unknown

For The Next Doctor, RTD has gone for a simple adventure approach... it's very funny & well paced, Pirates of the Caribbean to VOTD's Poseidon Adventure. The episode contains the phrase "cache of info-stamps"

"I play a character called the Doctor - a man who believes himself to be a Timelord. He's a tragic character. Something terrible has happened to him. Over the course of the episode, bits of what happened are revealed... But all those questions my Doctor wants to ask about himself and his past have to be put aside to save London from destruction.
David Morriessy

Set Reports
1st Report of Filming
This opening scene was shown as part of this years Children in Need. Exciting stuff!

And what was that thing that leaped out at them? Answer: Cybershade! They're kinda like fluffy bronze versions aren't they?

2nd Report of Filming
Assuming this is following on straight from the last scene, I'm guessing the Doctors' and Rosita are going to scarper.

We see the Other Doctor and Rosita run along a street, they stop and the Other Doctor says to her: "The Doctor's companion will do what the Doctor says! Now go!"

And at some other point we get this:
The Other Doctor is talking to Rosita at this point and I have no idea where it comes in the story but I cant see our Doctor anywhere. Who knows?

And at this point I don't know if our Doctor is with them, or after them, or just on his own but I bet anything he wants some answers. So I guess he must go look for them.

As well as our heros, there's also a Cybershade lurking mysteriously in broad daylight where it can clearly be seen.

3rd Report of Filming
While out and about on the street, we can see that a funeral procession is taking place

And it looks like bother Doctors are watching it.
Now, apparently theres a Cybershade in the funeral cart. But of course neither Doctors' or Rosita notice it.

4th Report of Filming
A snowy graveyard, with the same funeral taking place.

And now we get to meet a very fun character! Miss Hartigan, who is the lovely lady in red, and the villain of this episode.

As the funeral goes on, those attending can see a shadow of a man lurking in the distance, and moving closer. And who should come into view? Cybers!

Presumably, Miss Hartigan does a good old speech or something that lets the others know that she's behind this all, since a man turns to her and asks...

"What manner of men are they?"

"Cybermen"

And then said Cybers begin to attack with the usual electric-neck-grip-of-death, while the humans run away. And apparently there are some Cybershades there as well.

Man: Monstrous witch!
Miss H: Merry Christmas to you too

Video of Cyber attack

Much thanks to papseyno1

5th Report of Filming
Right, so while all that is going on, I'm guessing that our heros want to stop the evil and find out what the hell is going on.

And it looks like they go snooping in someones house. Who's house? I have no idea. But they're definitely not alone.

"...Okay!"

So then I guess they scarper pretty sharpish and most likely go somewhere else. I'm guessing the steel works (where it looks like quite a bit goes on)

And I think that while they're in the steel mill, the Doctor finds some projection (or does something Time Lordy and clever) while the Other Doctor seems somewhat distracted by a book.

Well its definitely not any language I know... could it be Time Lordy? Could the Other Doctor be feeling something? Or is he really just a con-man (as speculation suggests)

6th Report of Filming
And at some other point we see the funeral cart again. Its being driven by a Cybershade and Miss Hartigan is sitting at the front.

I'm guessing they're off to do some unspeakable evil. Probably in their Cyber-HQ (the trashed set of the Torchwood Hub) And it looks like they've got some pretty fancy machinery there as well!

The inside of the HQ has been described as a "sort of huge Cyber-victorian engine - all cogs, chains, furnaces and steam. Think steampunk."

And inside is where the Cyberleader lives! As of now, I don't know how integral he'll be to the plot, but hes got a bit of a different head that the usual Cyber.

7th Report of Filming

A long line of Victorian children can be seen under the charge of the undertaker (from the funeral) and I'll give you one guess why he's working for the bad guys...

The children march up to the door, and are shocked when they see two cybermen. They panic, and some try to run, only to be scared back into line by three hissing Cybershades.

The undertaker then said something along the lines of:
"Enter the court of the Cyber-King! That is an order - March!"
Unable to escape, the children trudge past the cybers, into their HQ

Once inside, the children are forced to shovel coal into buckets, pour oil into funnels and trudge up and down rickety stairs. Basic slave labour really.

8th Report of Filming
I don't know whats happened beforehand, but it looks like the Doctor and Rosita are rushing to the rescue!  They arrive where the children were taken and hide behind some barrels. Rosita wants to follow, but the Doctor says that "It will be too well guarded".

They move to rush off in another direction, only to be shocked to find two cybermen watching them.
The Doctor: Whoa! That's cheating, sneaking up like that! Have you got your legs on silent?

Then Miss H emerges from the building behind. I guess thus far the Doctor doesn't know that she's the baddie since he tries to coax her away

The Doctor: Don't let them touch you, just come here, slowly
Miss Hartigan: I have nothing to fear from my shining knights.

The Doctor reasons that she can't be fully Cyberized so she still has free will and can break away etc

Miss H: I am completely unconverted... no-one can make me change my mind.

And THEN the Doctor catches onto the fact that Miss H is behind the Cyber plans.

The Doctor: ... and it all has to happen tomorrow, on Christmas day? That was your idea was it?

Miss H agrees and asks who the Doctor is and how he knows so much about her comrades. The Doctor tells them who he is.

Cyberman: [his appearance] does not match the cybermen visual record
The Doctor: ... ah well, The Doctor, Timelords, mumble mumble...

And after some more conversation, Miss H orders the cybermen to kill the Doctor
The Doctor: Ah well, wait a minute, let me die happy - tell me what you want the children for?
Miss H: What does anyone want children for?

The Doctor then throws something at the cyberman, who catches it and informs the Doctor that it is ineffective against the Cyber-race. Then the Other Doctor steps out from behind the Cybers & Mrs H and shoots them. I don't know with what, but I hope it was effective.

9th Report of Filming
Following on from the shooting (I'm guessing) the Doctor, Rosita & the Other Doctor run away and end up hiding in a passageway.

The Other Doctor mentions something about his "memory not fully intact yet" and he also talked about some papers, and the words "15 Latimer Street".

He also has a belt strapped around him which what could either be ammo, or some form of EMP device? (like what was seen in VotD)

The Radio Times mentions how both Doctor's end up inside the Cyber-HQ watching the children slaving away. The Other Doctor says "we can set them free" whilst holding up a piece of alien tech like an old hand.

Miss H: Children! Pay attention! I want to see you work... Now, let the new Industrial Revolution begin!

And I'm guessing that there will be a big finale like ending where the children are set free etc etc. In one of the trailers we can see the Doctor picking up a sword and defending himself from a Cyber so maybe that happens now.

Either way theres a later scene where a lot of people were running away from a large explosion. The Other Doctor appears to grab a child as he runs past, as if saving him from the blast.

10th Report of Filming
An arrival/departing scene with the TARDIS was filmed. The Doctor and the Other Doctor were there.

The Other Doctor says something along the lines of "ooooh arrrrghh, so this is it then."

Speculation
Theres a lot of arguments about the Other Doctor, and whether he is actually a future Doctor or not.

"Morrissey is not , I repeat NOT, a future Doctor, Hes a con man.
10 does believe that Morrissey could be him in the future for a short while but as the story unfolds, the truth emerges through a few funny scenes."

Apparently he's a con-man (who may or may not have hired people to dress up as cybershades in order to look heroic)

OH MY GOD do the cybermen get through with Rose?!

Thanks Scooty & Jess :-)

O my god!

Now I'm looking forward to this rather then the series 4 final!

Combom said...

well if rose etc. are coming back form the other universe, so are the cybermen and the daleks who where trapped in the void between the two!

Chris S said...

I was kind of hoping for 'our universe' type Cybermen this time. I was not a big fan of all the Parallel Earth stuff.

DarCald said...

I am SOOOOOO glad that the reports of Cybies in this year's Christmas Story are TRUE!!! Yippeee!!!! I love the Cybermen (yes, even more so than the Daleks!). I do wonder what the Cybus Cybies means in relation to the rest of the series - is the Doc stuck in "alt World" after Ser4 - perhaps all the specials are in the Alt Universe? Or as mentioned aboved, does the return of Rosykins mean that the Void was breached and all those trapped Cybus Cybies and Daleks are loose in the Universe(s) now? Wow...I wonder if the Daleks would invade the alt-Universe (does it have Daleks? If so, are they different as well?).
Intriguing stuff - but the Victorian setting totally made me think Cybies weren't happening - so pleased that they are! Sounds excellent - esp the CyberWraiths! New figures!!! Hooray!!!
Now if they'd just reveal K9 is in Ser4 (for at least a cameo since everyone else is!) and will be in SJA more, then I'd be totally Who-Happy!!!! :-)

Anonymous said...

This is very, very intriguing. I wonder if the Cyber Wraiths are Mondasian, Moffat did say that he wanted to return to them. I hope that some in-between Companion does get to travel in time and space, since that is what being a Companion is about.

I wonder if Astrid will be back at some point.

The question of Daleks in Pete's World is an interesting one. Their version of Skaro might still be around, populated by Thals and Kaleds. Davros might never have been born, or he could be a tank driver or a doctor.

Brit The Mighty said...

Astrid's very obvious death and the Doctor's very obvious heartbreak over losing her pretty much crosses out Astrid for future episodes. Besides Kylie's a big star (apparently) and I'm sure she's got better things to do. (I'm not much of an Astrid fan if you couldn't guess.)

Nonetheless, EXCITING STUFF. I've been missing the Cybermen since they disappeared in season 2. I always considered them the Doctor's 2nd big bad, I'm glad they're reappearing.

And guys, don't forget that we still don't know how season 4 ends... we might be keeping one of the old companions.

And, (this is my last point) - If the barrier between the Alt. Dimension that lets Rose through breaks down, that would explain why we suddenly have a LOT more Daleks than we currently do in the finale. Maybe the Xmas special (and the 2009 bank holiday specials)will be the Doctor running around trying to fix the problems made by the breach - thus why the cybermen just popped back up. Just a theory.

Oh, (this really is the last point) THIS IS A FANTASTIC BLOG. Everyone involved deserves a big round of applause!

Combom said...

this is the only place i look for info now :) well i look on another board for action figure news too, but thats it :)

I'm also a little disappointed that its the Cybus Cybermen - I hate that "C" on their chests!
Would have been nice to have the "Revenge" style Cybermen as seen in Van Statten's museum.

How did the Cybusmen not only get into "our" universe, but also travel back in time to the Victorian era (presumably)?

Anonymous said...

Instead of VICTORIAN times, how about ELIZABETHAN times. Then the Doc could meet Queen Lizzie 1st. That could be why Lizzie calls the Doctor her sworn enemy. Also it was said that Queen Liz IS going to be in Series 4. The Christmas Special could be that episode.

Anonymous said...

Hi love the site but as it's in Victorian times it can't be Cybus Cybermen because they were created in 2007??.

Also as filming is now it must mean Tennant should be filming on it fairly soon because if the body swap thats supposed to happen would mean filming would happen later.

Wow! Everyone look at what he said...

Wow this is intriguing...

So much to speculate on, I think my head may explode. In a good way!

On Set said...

A special is based on Cybermen coming out of a "wound" with followers/converters following them. The next special is based on Boulder Ghosts and Dragons.

Anonymous said...

Any sign of doctor and what happened to the companions from finale?

Anonymous said...

Apparently one of the specials is going to be set on the planet Argos where the Doctor will have to avert a catalogue of disasters.

Jess said...

Nope, no sign of the Doctor yet. He wasn't filming on the days in the graveyard.

Anonymous said...

Devyla Kerwan is playing a woman known as Candice Green.

caitilin said...

if one of the companions is seen filming it'll ruin the whole series finale!! i almost dont want to know! (almost)

Everyone look at what I said...

The cybermen appeared as ghosts before...

Does anyone else think they may do a homage to/parody of A Christmas Carol?

Anonymous said...

CYBERMEN!!!!! *squee*

Combom said...

could the "Ringwraiths" be human 'cyberman cultists' (followers), they sound like it. the "jumping" combined with victorean times makes me think of "spring heeled jack". a christmas carol would be a good "hook" for the show!

Anonymous said...

they should have the old cybermen work with the news ones

Walter said...

I don't know if this has been mentioned yet, but could it be possible the new type of cybermen are a type of steampunk cybermen made from the available technology of the Victorian era? They look rather steampunkish to me.

Combom said...

way ahead of you, check my blog :)

i suspect the cybermen are trapped in victorean times so have to use current technology to create new ones!

Combom said...

thanx for the cyber wraith pic, theres a lot clearer version (manipulated) of it on my blog btw

After two years of mildly disappointing Christmas Specials (I don't say terrible-- just not as good as Christmas Invasion) this is what I'm talking about.

Hey Jess, "The Other Doctor" is Martin Clunes, apparently. The name being a joke reference to his staring role in 'Doc Martin'.

Anonymous said...

Could this story all be in the Doctor's mind in the middle of a regeneration, hence "the other Doctor"? And why people's reactions to the "wraiths" are not as one would expect?

Combom said...

talking about the "Cyber Wraiths" today, as its the Victorian era, copper and/or brass would be a more likely metal for them to be made from.

"Cyber Wraith" is prob a nickname for them, no doubt the show will have them with a different name.

Anonymous said...

the other doctor is probably to trick us, like at the end of FoP

As I write this the ast picture is missing so I can not comment on it however we need to be careful when we talk about DT and David Morrisey as they're Blackpool co-stars so is the pic from there..? Could be though Sarah Parish was in it too, also its DT's first connection to Doctor Who as there was an exhibition on there when filming and theres quite a cool shot of DT walking across the road with DOCTOR WHO above his head!

And the Cyberman are bronze not Gold, and there could be two Martha's dont forget we saw in the coming soon bit her emerging from the goo so maybe theres Martha and Clone Martha

Anonymous said...

I've heard Rose and Donna are in it and their going to film in Gloucester.

hiya guys !!!!
i have just woken up and started to watch smith and jones [ my favourite ! ]
rose and martha and the doctor and jenny have now all been seen filming for this episode but donna has not been seen yet rose is rumored to be killed by a cyberman in this ep [ holding marthas hand so maybe it goes onto martha as well !!!! ]
STILL LOVING ROSE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anonymous said...

so will the finale be not so much a finale as a lead on to this episode?

Anonymous said...

Now we've seen some footage of Morrissey in this episode, I've got some speculation to share...

So it's already speculated that something will happen in Series 4 to open up the parallel universe that Rose was trapped in. While we don't know how Journey's End finishes, it looks like he ends the story companionless again. Now with the parallel universe open, that would explain the return of the Cybus Industries Cybermen. It could also be that Morrissey is playing a parallel version of the Doctor, hence his assumed name of 'The Other Doctor'. Heck, that could even be the title of the episode. As for the 'Cyber Shades', my guess is they're an old/outdated version of Cybermen that originated on Earth. Either that or they're a new type of Cybermen brought in by the Cybus Industries lot...

Johnny Quiz said...

Maybe the cybershades are made from dalekanium...

spillathecyberman said...

Anonymous, who is jenny? from the family of blood????

Jess said...

Jenny is the name of the Doctor's daughter as we shall see in episode 6

Rosita??? It sounds a lot like Rose, don't you think?
I've heard rumours saying Rose might regenerate... could they be true?

Athena said...

'It sounds a lot like Rose, don't you think?'

I think it does also,
Rosita is a little TOO close to ROSE!
That's gonna be an awesome finale and Xmas special

Anonymous said...

if david tennant regenerates i will punch him in the face and that will make him regenerate

Anonymous said...

It is suggested that they are old cybermen that admired the Cybus ones and made more of them and took there technology which would make since the way they didnt know who the doctor was (by appearance) and they can fully time travel which is how they got to possibly the victorian times

They could be stuck in the past

Did anyone notice that this will be the first christmas special out of modern time and there hasnt been one on another planet yet (space doesnt count)

Anonymous said...

WOW! there is so much information on this one! well done jess and all the wonderful people who took the pictures!!

Anonymous said...

what if the other doctor is from the other universe?

Anonymous said...

Hey! Jess I think your site is great I look for updates pretty much everyday(yes i'm that sad) but can I suggest the you change the heading above the 4th christmas special to The Specials rather than Series 5 coz it might be confusing when the actual series 5 comes out!!!

Jess said...

Good plan... will do!

Anonymous said...

the christmas special might be called eiither the ghostly machines or the ghost in the machine

Anonymous said...

the christmas special might be called eiither the ghostly machines or the ghost in the machine

!RICH! said...

hey, does that mean they are entering victorian england the same way they invaded modern day earth? through an army of ghosts travelling through the void? they are the new cybus industries cybers. but what is so significant about victorian england? possibly that it is unguarded before tw or UNIT is established. must be somethink :P

Andrew said...

they COULD be coming through to destroy torchwood or unit

Anonymous said...

the christmas special is called Ghosts in the Machines

CyberShell said...

Ghost in the Machine? Sounds pretty cool. I'm glad 'Cybermen' isn't in the title, that would just make things too obvious. I honestly thought they'd call the episode 'The Other Doctor', but it's not the first time I've been wrong :P

That is, if this info is true...

gabriel11 said...

Jess, guess what. I know what the christmas special synopsis is. David Morissey is a con man, making people believe he's the doctor. Rosita's his companion, and he creates the cybershades to make everyone believe more. But then the doctor turns up with the cybermen behind and all hell breaks loose!

N. T. said...

You know what would be great? If David Morrisey were the Valeyard.

Anonymous said...

yeah that would be good if he was the valeyard, we never saw what happened to him after the trial of a time lord, maybe he escaped

Anonymous said...

I think that the cybermen here might be why Queen Elizibeth hates the Doctor so much! Remember in the Shakespear Code when she nearly killed the Doctor?

Andrew said...

It's VICTORIAN england, which means queen VICTORIA, elizabeth is out by a couple of hundred years

Anonymous said...

Umm, I dunno what exactly it was for, but my friend's brother was at the National Gallery a week ago, and he said that they were filming Doctor Who there - he didn't see the Doctor or anything, but he saw the TARDIS.

As this is the one with filming going on recently, I presume it's for this special, but I have no idea...

Jess said...

I'm afraid filming wrapped for this special a long time ago, so whatever your friends brother saw, it wasn't for Doctor Who.

There's no more filming until January.

Anonymous said...

looking at this i looks like its based on the one doctor which is an audio play by Garth Roberts

Anonymous said...

what i dont understand is how the cybermen in this episode do not recognise this doctor when he names himslef because they saw about a thousand times during series 2!!

THEORIES:

In the S4 finale, the Void splinters, sending the Daleks, CybusCybermen and Parallel versions of our people to random points in time and space. In this special, the Doctor and Rosita (Rose after she regenerated, since when she absorbed the Time Vortex she became part-Time Lady) land, and the Cybers make new troops from old scrap metal. They meet the Parallel Doctor who was sent flying there when the Void splintered.

The 2009 Specials will focus on a different enemy that fall through time/space when the Void splintered.
SP1: Cybermen, Continued from the Christmas ep.
SP2: Conclusion of Cybermen story, start of Dalek one.
SP3: Daleks, on Skaro, with a past version of the Doctor (Tom Baker?).

maybe its gonna be like the christmas one is in the past, the first of the three specials is in the present, the second is in the far furture and the third is set on a different planet. Just a guess of coarse but i think that would be could. Has anyone heard the speculations about the Zygons playing a big part in one of the specials?

dwfan said...

I read at a couple of places that Russel T. Davies was not planning to create an episode w/ the Zygons. He said the are one of his favorite villans, but since they were already in a book he doen't want to have them in an episode. I'm reading the book now, Sting of the Zygons, It is pretty good!

timeagent922 said...

I heard Rose MIGHT be in it but not sure really. However Rosita( does sound like Rose alot to me) could be code for Rose, they could be doing what they did for little red riding hood or that kinda thing. Or maybe not and I'm just grasping at straws.

Has anyone thought of this title "Metal Grave" as the Cybermen are metal (or steel) and they first apear in a graveyard, if anyone thinks this is a good title please reply. Thanks.

Apparently, the doctor catches a cold and he temporarily regenerates into a woman ! I think it might be true, but not certain !

Here's my thought:

The street is called Latimer Street, right? Does anyone think it might be related to Tim Latimer, from HN/TFoB (S3)? Or am I completely off the mark?

Marcus said...

Tim Latimer was born way after the victorian times so i guess its just a coincidence that the street shares the same name as him!

Anonymous said...

Actually, Rosita comes from Rosa, a Spanish name, but if you translate it to english means Rose.

Anonymous said...

Well from that it looks like the Doctor can spend another Xmas alone. What is it with him and Xmas? The Christmas Invasion, yes he had Rose, but it was a new Doctor. The Runaway Bride, no companion, tries to find out why the Racnoss want Donna (pre companion Donna that is.) Voyage of the Damned, Martha has left him and he crashes into the Titanic. Astrid his "companion" dies. What a happy Xmas. Cant wait for the 2008 one!

Sam said...

I think that this will be like "The One Doctor" audio adventure that had the 6th Doctor, where someone pretended to be the Doctor and save a bunch of people from fake monsters, and then the real monsters showed up. The fake guy called himself the Doctor, flew in a port-a-john calling it a "STARDIS", and had a companion named "Sally Anne" which seems a mockery of "Sarah Jane". Maybe Rosita is the fake Doctor's companion named after Rose, and the Cybershades are fakes, but the Cybermen are real. Just a thought. If any new details come up, such as the title, my theory might change.

Anonymous said...

It said some that the Doctor's face didn't match their visual records. Maybe, just maybe these are genuine Cybermen! Not the fake lot from Pete's world...

"Cold Steel"
You see my logic, right? It's cold (cos it's Xmas) & the Cybermen are made of steel.

By the way, STOP ERASING MY SWEARING!!! This is the only way to sponge all my frustration out, ranting at people I don't even know for doing exactly what I do, speculating about next eppie, so you erasing it is DRIVING ME EVEN MORE NUTS!!! Anyway, as you can see above, the mystery swearer has assumed an identity.

So, unless you want me to slaughter you all with my chainsaw, I suggest you stop erasing my stuff, just ignore the fact that it's even there. By the way,

Anonymous said...

I have found a connection between the enemies in the New Series of Doctor Who. In the Second Episode of Season 1, the Daleks first appeared, and the Daleks were also in Series 1. In Season 4 the second episode was "The Tenth Planet" Which introduced the Cybermen for the first time. In Season 8, the Master was introduced for the first time. In Season 12, Davros and the Sontarons appear for the First(Davros) and Second(Sontarons) time. So by counting the original series in Fours, you can see that one of the episodes in "Revenge of the Cybermen" and "The Key of Time" meaning that not only will the Cybermen return, but so will Black Guardian

If the rumours of Ace's return are true, then might she be coming back as one of the last time agents? (she could be on the trail of Captain John Hart, allowing James Masters to appear in one of the specials too)

I'm basing this speculation off of the fact that they seem to have been borrowing heavily from the books & audio dramas recently.

In the expanded whoniverse the Doctor had intended for Ace to attend the Prydon Academy and become a (in terms of knowledge and training) Timelady.

She got fed up of him manipulating her life & set off on her own, joined an organisation called 'Spacefleet' and eventually became a mercenary known as the "Time's Vigilante" using a time-hopping motorcycle fitted with an unnamed time-travel device which gave every appearence of being a vortex manipulator.

It certainly isn't stretching one's imagination to consider that Ace may have been recruited from Spacefleet by the time agency and then become the Vigilante upon its disbandment.

This could lead to renewed conflict between Ace and the Doctor, as the first thing he'd do upon meeting her again would most likely be try to disable her vortex manipulator, just like he did (twice) to Captain Jack's.

Unlike Jack, Ace ain't totally 'whiped when she's around the Doctor, and wouldn't stand for him flexing his arrogance and temporal elitism like that.

Hello again not that many spoilers mainly questions however just to warn you! SPOILERS!

I am sure the (diamiond headed) cyber-men were called Cyber-wraiths. However back to what i was saying . .

The cyber-men take over a undertakers place and use the dead bodies as shells to make the wraith cyber-men.

They will be destroyed by a EMP created from? (a dentist chair and some electrical appliances)

The EMP causes them to explode and all parralell cybermen are destroyed however the wraiths (Being made without electrical equipment survive and launch an attack at a Graveyard!

That is all i have!

Please note if you think most of this stuff is lame then forget it because this site is based mainly on rumors only 1% of this stuff will most likely be true however it is what we do!

Jess said...

>>this site is based mainly on rumors only 1% of this stuff will most likely be true<<

Actually, if you check back at other posts from seres 4, you will see that most of the stuff this site comments on turns out to be true.

The information I provide comes from set reports (which have been seen filmed - photos are proof of that) and from a few reliable sources who have been right time after time, it is certainly more than 1% accurate as you put it.

Right come on... Rose is in a parralel universe, the doctor's Donna is dead, Martha is at Torchwood so why would they all come back.
I have a feeling about Jenny, she won't come back in next episode but I think she will return in series 5.

This cannot be possible as TimeLord-humans burn up and die. Yet in Journeys end: Doctor number 2 was Timelord-human and he didn't die, but he couldn't regenerate either so how could Rose regenerate?

James Schofield said...

aaaand The wall between the universes has rebuilt so no Rose, Jackie, Doctor 2 and Pete will be seen again.
Donna oesn't know the Doctor so she won't come back. Martha, Mickey and Jack may come back as they are still on earth but it is unlikely after that fantastic final. So it's just the Doctor I think.. Poor guy.

SPOILERS FOR JOURNEYS END

Okay... So I have a random theory.

I reckon (because it seems mental that the new girl in this is called Rosita when the biggest companion of New Who is Rose. Hmm.

So my theory for this is that The Doctor meets a future version of himself (The lovely Mr Dave Morrisey) who happens to be accompanied by a 'Rose'. I reckon he doesn't find out till the end that this is ROSE TYLER in a regeneration.

Cue to this, I reckon that we MAY see Rose Tyler pop back through in a special after this, probably to point out to the Doctor (original) that his human counterpart has popped off in his shiny new tardis (It's canon that he was given a piece of the Tardis) and is causing a spot of bother. 10.5 will probably die, and Rose will continue to travel with the Original Doctor.

Well thats my Theory anyway, brought about mostly by Journey's End's weird end and spec.

Atheniandream@aol.com

Reply to atheniandream :

What do you mean spoilers for Journey's End ?

The episode was broadcast about a week before you posted your 'spoiler'. I really don't see how Rosita could be "Rose in a regeneration" anyway, I'm pretty sure that 'journey's End' was the end of Rose's story.

Cheers. I've finally found someone who shares my theories about how bloody thick it is to keep thinking the Rani's coming back. First Anna Dexter (the Sinister Woman from Series 3), then Matron Cofelia (aka Miss Foster from "Partners in Crime"), and now Miss Hartiggan. SHUT UP!!! In my opinion, the Rani'll only come back if you stop thinking random future characters are her in disguise.

Next on the agenda...
"Hi love the site but as it's in Victorian times it can't be Cybus Cybermen because they were created in 2007??."

"Watch past doctor who episodes! They are one of the doctors biggest enemies right from the start."
Yeah, my theory is that these are the Cybermen from our universe, only (as they can travel in time) they observed the Battle of Canary Wharf and the forms of the parralel universe Cybermen are the forms that the original Cybermen take in the Christmas special. Also I've changed my mind about the title: "The March of the Cybermen". Like it? 'Cos I don't give a damn otherwise.

The episode's title has been revealed to be 3 words long. 'The Return of the Cybermen' was just a tag-line in the trailer, not the actual title. The title isn't being revealed however, because it's apparently too much of a giveaway, like 'The Stolen Earth'.

The Dawn said...

Those are some really heady questions about the Cybermen shown in the episode. I too have been wondering about where the heck they could have come from. I haven't seen every single episode of the classic stuff, but as far as I've heard from those who have, is that the Mondas (classic) Cybermen just stopped appearing in episodes without an actual "destruction" or "death".

So, the two most plausible theories I've heard are that:

A) The Mondas Cybermen came across wreckage from the Cybus Cybermen and adapted the technology, hence the new look.

B) Due to Davros' actions in Series 4, the Rift in Canary Warf reopened and the Cybus guys escaped. Of course the action of the episode didn't cover this happening, but I could see them tagging it on.

Aside from those two, I've heard some lame ideas too. Like "the Cybus guys were re-invented on Earth somewhere" or "some Cybus guys survived like in TW: Cyberwoman and they somehow got to Victorian England". My main idea is that the Mondas guys saw wreckage from Canary Warf or maybe just came up with the design on their own and look like the Cybus guys by coincidence. I just hope we're not gonna see any silly parallel reality stuff, cause that'd be as lame as a Star Trek Borg story.

I'd love it more if it were that the Cybus guys escaped and the Cyber-Shades/Wraiths are actually what the Mondas guys evolved into since the last time we saw them and now we got a Cyber-Civil War going on. :)

Although the Doctor meeting a future self (Morrisey) might be neat over seeing a past self.

It's probably nothing, but has anyone noticed this similarity:

R-O-S-I-T-A = R-O-M-A-N-A

It'a a longshot, I know, but I'd love to see the return of the Timelords.

Shacklebolt said...

i wish people would stop saying rosita is rose just cause it sounds similar there is no way rose could regenerate! im pretty sure rose's story has ended!

Suggestion: Maybe even the Tenth Doctor doesn't know if David Morissey's Doctor is a real future regeneration or a fake. His memories supposedly being wiped might account for failure to verify his identity telepathically.

I assume that the Cybermen are Cybus-men who escaped from the Void due to the events of TSE/JE, but weren't able to get back to the correct time due to [some technobabble].

As for the Doctor not matching the Cybermen's visual records, do we know for sure this line was aimed at the Tenth Doctor and not Morissey?

Interesting stuff. No point second guessing cause Russ is going to read all this and change it as he has done past most of the time. I am amazed. I watched since day one and it is great to see all sorts of different people of different eras , of different ages trying to find answers for the return of the cybermen. In the early 70's when the 3 day week was on and power cuts occured, the programme k-9 I could not see but managed too pick it up from bbc wales on a short wave reciever. In the mid 80's I watched doctor who played by Jon Pertwee on stage in manchester where I bought an audio tape which I do not have now on the origins of the cybermen. You people are amazing to do cloak and dagger and stealth to go to such lengths too get results which I want to know as well(spoilers).Hey who turned out the lights!

i was thinking.... and i don't know if this has already been said(i just scrolled right to the bottom) but, perhaps these cybermen, really are OUR universe cybermen, and they've been watching the earth, and they saw the cybus cybermen invade, and they thought, 'GOD they're making our style look cheap, we'd better copy their styles so we can get with the times' so they copied the cybus cybermens look, and thats why they say to the doctor: 'you do not mach cyberman visual data records. coz if u think about it cybus cybers hav seen the 10th doc so he DOES mach visual records

I'm not sure if anyone has posted this, but apparently rumors from a source from the doctor who team said that jenny will most likely be coming back in series 5, apparently the master (john simm) will be making an appearance and be in two of the specials, making one big whole one...and apparently the specials are probably meant to show the rest of the 10th doctor's life, to show how he met professor river song when she was younger etc. And then he'll regenerate after...But it could just be them bringing people's hopes up. And the cybermen are definately going to be in the christmas special. However we will all have to wait and find out.

Hmm... Cybershades...

"The Cybershade is a mutant with some of the looks of the Cybermen — but it is a much darker creation."

Might these creatures be cyberised versions of the inmates from the Timelord prison planet Shada?

Further to that, might the 'Other Doctor' actually be an early version of the Shada-escapee Timelord criminal Salyavin (eventually known by the doctor under the alias 'Professor Chronotis')?

Either that, or he might be Svlad Cjelli! (Douglas Adams-related joke, google it)

I would have thought Shada was destroyed in the Time War by the Daleks.

wat it says about "she cant be fully cyberised" there was an episode of torchwood were someone escaped halfway through being upgraded and was part human cyberwoman.
but this has nothing to do with the christmas episode. come to think of it the cyberwoman looked a bit like rossita...
but im probably WAY off the mark

Melissa said...

There could be another cyberwoman someday. Who knows?

TheHairofTime said...

I kind of think that lostdj might be right about the first doctor young theory, coz if he was a future doctor, he would then have to be cast. also, morrisey himself said he thought someone else (jimmy nesbitt) would be the 11th doctor

Melissa said...

Well, I hope Russell Tovey (or James Nesbitt) isn't the Eleventh Doctor anytime soon then.

Anonymous said...

The real heart of it is the beginning: the Doctor arrives, hears a damsel in distress, the Doctor steps forward to save her... when this other man [David Morrissey] swings in, dashing, brilliant, amazing, clever, witty, saves the day. The Doctor says, “Who are you?” The man says, “I'm the Doctor!”

This is what russell t davies said isn't it? But wouldn't david morriseys "doctor" recognise tennants doctor as his past self???

The Doctor said...

I think DT will stick with the show a while longer... perhaps even thru 2010 and a full 5th series.

Besides, everyone knows I'm the real next doctor! :)

Spacephantom said...

I haven't heard anywhere that David Morrissey has confirmed he'll be playing the 11th Doctor, although all the evidence seems to be pointing to him at the moment - e.g. the timing of Tennant's annoncement, Terry Wogan letting it slip last week that the identity of the next Doctor will be revealed on Children in Need.

As far as I'm aware Morrissey has just said what was quoted above on this page - that he's playing "a man who believes himself to be a Timelord" in "The Next Doctor"

It's possible we'll know for sure this Friday whether or not he is in fact the 11th Doctor though.

TheHairofTime said...

maybe they will lead u too believe he just isnt quite there in the head, but it turns out he is actually the doc

The Archon said...

Of course Morrissey's the 11th Doctor. Doctor Who is sci-fi and can get a bit timey-wimey and complicated, but even this show wouldn't have an episode called "The Next Doctor" and not include the guy who's going to be the next doctor.

I mean, it would be kind of retarded to have an episode called the Next Doctor with one guy and then bring out a completely new doctor introduced at the end of the specials.

binxs said...

about strange doc. his sonic screwdriver is much thinner ( upgraded) and he also says Allonsy, and mentions the TARDIS. so he most probably is 11th. or he could be in a parrelel universe, with another doc, but not petes world

Has anyone thought that that this is a parralell world doctor?

What if the 10th doctor who left with rose regenerated as a side effect he had a blast from davros so he may be able to regenerate!

Or if he is a con man how does he know about all the doctor who stuff such as the tardis and the sonic screwdriver

I do not want to spoil it for myself so i must go BYE!

That might be true if he hadn't specifically said that he can't regenerate and that he'd age at the same time as Rose.

TheHairofTime said...

he most defiently isnt the petes world doc regenerated. he has a human body, so it dosent regeerate. and even if they were going continue that storyline some time it would not be in the very next episode. he is most probs a con man

ok perhaps the other doctor is like captain jack harkness?? u no a time agent?? hmm..

Timelords/ladies have been known to be able to have control of or influence their apperance when regenerating so perhaps doctor 10 chooses the morrisey doctor apperance. The reason could be some sort of tribute for some form of scarafice by the morrisey doctor.

In the planet of spiders? Jon Pertwee doctor there was a time lord whose next regeneration was present at the same time. So in theroy its possible for the doctor to have something similar happen.

Almost certainly just another red herring, but it might indicate that someone is actually a timelord...

Probably not the David Morriessy character, my guess is that he's a deranged fan, like the Fifth Doctor at first thought the Tenth was in "Time Crash".
