I really hope they don't pull the Doctor-is-now-a-woman trick. That would just be too strange and, given the history of the show, very awkward.
That said, they could use an intelligent woman as a companion. River Song fits the bill, being a scientist and able to hold her own against the Doctor. One complaint about the new series is the female companions have been portrayed as a little dense.
And why not a male companion for once? The Doctor used to travel with them. I wouldn't mind seeing him travel with two companions for a while.
I can't believe all this press clamour for a female Doctor again. The same thing happened when Tom Baker left, then again when Peter Davison left. And Of course by the time Colin Baker and Sylvester McCoy played the Doctor, the press had lost interest.
Does anybody else get the impression that the people writing these stories are so gullible and lacking in humour, that they take every tongue in cheek comment by RTD as being deadly serious? It's not so long ago that he suggested Amy Winehouse for the Doctor, and then said that a woman could never play the Doctor in the next sentence. But of course that was reported by some newspapers as "Doctor Who chief writer wants Amy Winehouse to be the next Doctor". They really must think peoples heads button up the back.
Thank goodness Steven Moffat is well versed in the Doctor Who canon, and knows that Time Lords can't change sex when regenerating.
The only reasonable way a female Doctor could be introduced into the series, is if she came from an alternate universe where the Doctor had always been female.
I m Doctor who fan(anoymous) i see people are voting women to next doctor that it not right I only voting male(white male not black male) who let the doctor to stay being male That way Time lords don t sex change when the doctor regenerating so I begging all you and Jess I still the doctor to stay being male please.
There's nothing to stop the Doctor being a black male. It's established in the canon that Time Lords can't change sex by regeneration, but there's nothing to stop them changing colour. Black, blue, green, silver (like Romana in "Destiny of the Daleks"), pretty much anything goes apart from a change of sex. Also we have seen black Time Lords before (in "The Deadly Assassin" and "The Sound of Drums")
So if the Doctor was played by a black actor, I certainly would be happy with that as long as he was a good one.
There's a big difference between discontinuities in storylines and changing the entire concept of the series.
If they had such disregard for the series history that they cast a female Doctor, they might as well do away with the concept of regeneration altogether, start again with a human Doctor (rather than a Time Lord), get rid of the Tardis and the time travel aspect and just have a completley new concept of the Doctor as an alien investigator in Cardiff attached to Torchwood or something.
Some respect has to be maintained for the history of the series and the back story that has been built up over the years, or it just wouldn't be Doctor Who any more.
Hmmm if you see black time lord in the Deadly assassin(the master did return in the deadly assassin) then how come you know about Black people to be the Next Doctor after David tennant starting to leave Doctor who.
We are humans we are diffient because my skin is black I don t know your skin colours is but Acooding to David tennant s replacement We keep guessing about who going to be the 11th doctor I had not clue because seeing Black time lords in The deadly assassin and The sound of drums will be Good idea for black actors/actresses to be time lords but still not the Doctor the 11th doctor.
Whoever Someone is male as white person wants to be the 11th doctor it Black male or women will never Ever Evver to become future regeneration of the Doctor again.
Thanks spacephantom Merry christmas and happy new year to you too.smile
Blue silver or oriental Doctor you must be joking spacephantom.Don t make me laugh again he haa anyway had nice christmas holiday i see you if you come back to write more comments in future if you ilke so bye.lol and I will miss you.sad
Spacephantom, where the hell was the black Time Lord in 'The Deadly Assassin ? I've watched that story quite a few times and never saw him, was he hiding in the background somewhere ?
Another thing, I have to laugh at what you said about Steven Moffat knowing that Time Lords can't change sex. He was the guy who wrote 'The Curse Of Fatal Death' , where the Doctor regenerated into Joanna Lumley !
Keep up the good work with winding up Doctor Who Spammer ! ;-D
matt smith is an excellent and unexpected choice for the 11th Doctor I think.
To answer the comment Anonymous about Steven Moffat - "The Curse of Fatal Death" was a comedy sketch for comic relief. It wasn't canon. Stven Moffat would never cast a woman as the Doctor in the actual series, since he's well informed enough to know that Time Lords can't change sex when regenerating.
Also, there's a black Time Lord among the crowd in the Panopticon in "The Deadly Assasin". He can be seen briefly just prior to the scene where the Lord President is assassinated.

I'm fine with a female being the Doctor, as long as it's well cast.
And continuity in Doctor Who is laughable.
But me if you did black time lord in the sound of drums that ok for black actor/actress to time lords but not the Doctor.

Well if you don't like th idea of a black Doctor, how about a purple or a green Doctor? There's nothing in canon to stop that happening either - LOL.
Purple doctor or green doctor you must be Joking Spacephantom.Don t make me laugh
but Yes I don t like Black people to be the 11th doctor.
All right then how about a tartan Doctor with a Scottish accent?
But then again, we've already had Sylvester McCoy as the 7th Doctor
;-))
Well, while All the press speculation about possible replacements for Tennant gets increasingly ridiculous, if you can't have a laugh what can you do?
Whoever Someone is male as white person wants to be the 11th doctor it Black male or women will never Ever Evver to become future regeneration of the Doctor again.
It is quite possible that a black male could become the Doctor actually, whether you like it or not.
Buy if you don't like the idea of a black Doctor - how about an Asian or Oriental Doctor?
How about a blue Doctor with yellow spots?
How about a silver Doctor with wing mirrors?
(is it becoming too obvious that I'm just winding Doctor Who fan up now?)
Anyway Doctor Who fan, I'm off on holiday soon, so Merry Christmas and Happy New Year too you. I hope my posts made you smile.
