To One and All

No, no, no, no, hold on. Wait there! There's something I've got to say. I've got something I had to tell you. Something important, what was it? No, no, no, hold on. Tch tch tch tch... Oh, I know!

Merry Christmas!!!

Sorry for the rubbish and sporadic posts of recent times. I'm having nightmare internet issues and sometimes it wont work at all! So I apologise if theres anything I've missed out...
But enough of that... Tis nearly Doctor Who time!

So who the hell is the "Other" Doctor then? Is he really a conman? Or a future incarnation of the Doctor? Or even a past one? Or maybe just a timelord? Or maybe none of the above...

Not long till we find out!

How badass was the Cyberking! That was everything I hoped for and more.

Miss Hartigen had become cyberking because Cyberking is gaint Cyberman.

I don't think that's what "because" means, Doctor who fan.

"Doctor Who Fan", I will say freely without being anonymous that you ARE, in fact, a spammer. You post and post and post utterly illiterate nonsense a hundred times a day and we are all quite sick of it. We have to wade through your rubbish just to get to posts of any substance. I think I speak for everyone here in saying that we would ALL consider it a fantastic Christmas present if you would just GO AWAY.

Anonymous said...

No i just not spammer dave grim Usa i just follower of the this blog if you excuse i got go away to return my blog.Merry christmas and happy christmas

For all of you outside the UK, i live in southamerica and i found the special on the internet, it took me like 4 hours to download it completely but it was worthy... so keep googling ;)

Merry christmas to everyone i open my christmas presents beccause it cool so enjoy had a good time on christmas.

The next epidode "Planet of the dead" will not be a Dalek story despite the obvious reference to the first Dalek story "The dead planet". Apparently filming will take place in Tunisia, so it is possible the Dead Planet in question may be Gallifrey.

Mary said...

For those us not in the UK, does anyone know where I can watch this on the webbernets?? I can't find it on youtube. (I'm going back to England in about a week and I'm kind of tempted to hold out til then, but I don't think I can wait that long!!!)

Anonymous said...

You can view it in its entirety at this link:

www.zshare.net/video/5327078359df1ba3

It's in high quality, too! Merry Christmas!

Anonymous said...

Thank you so much!

The Nimon drain the life out of planets, don't they? That could be what the "Planet of the Dead" is about.

Anonymous said...

A million thanks for posting that link. What a nice treat to actually see it on Christmas in the US.

I am going to miss David Tennant. He has really grown on me the past 3 years.

richardwatts said...

A polite reminder to people on behalf on those of us elsewhere in the world who may not have seen the epsiode yet to try and avoid posting spoilers about the plot, please?

That said, having just watched the special here in Oz - w00t!

Anonymous said...

It was a fun episode, although RTD's melodramatic excesses once again almost sunk it. Then there were the plot holes (as one AICN poster pointed out, the cybermen had enough power to create cybershades and a giant robot, yet needed kids to push some wheels to power the thing?)

Doctor Who doesn't need to be so dumbed down. Luckily, the Moff has already hinted he is going to take the series is a more mature direction.

StormWolf said...

Well, leave it to someone to put a downer on the whole thing.

Emotion is a good thing, I think. I thought it was beautifully done. It's the real emotion that makes this not just another sci-fi show. It's part of why I've had such a problem with sci-fi up until New Who came around (well, besides Babylon 5 which also had a good range of emotion). Far too little real emotion beyond anger and "look at how bad ass I am".

Anonymous said...

Oh, found it online! What a great episode! And somehow evokes HG Wells 'War of the Worlds', perhaps because it's 19th century and giant alien things roaming around :)

You wonder if Londoners of 21st century got their 'tradition' of not expecting anything good on Christmas back from 1851? :)

Loved the 'timorous beastie' nod to 'Tooth and Claw'!

Anonymous said...

Jess, I know of a place where it tells non-UK viewers how to watch the episode on the official UK site. It's legal, it's free, and it's detailed here:

http://datechguy.wordpress.com/2008/12/23/dr-who-by-proxy-server/

Also, I thought the episode was great, and Combom has some links to the episode in full.

Everyone Jess and Anonymous Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

I don't think real emotion is everyone cheering "hurray!" and treating the Doctor like a god. A little subtly goes a long way, and is the hallmark of good drama over bad drama. RTD has flashes of brilliance, but is a victim of childish excesses. Look at Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead about how "emotion" can be properly treated.

Anonymous said...

more spam from doctor you fan/ the ghost of christmas future.

Anonymous said...

Planet of the Dead hurrah but The Daleks episode 1 known The Dead planet i don t know it same but it confuse to The Daleks episode 1 The Dead planet and Planet of the Dead The easter special 2009.

Anonymous said...

I think it would only be people like yourself that would be confused, Doctor Who Spammer. 'The Dead Planet' referred to a seemingly lifeless planet. 'Planet Of The Dead' might refer to a planet of dead people or something like that.

Anonymous said...

I enjoyed this Christmas special more than all the others, although that's mainly due to the fun of the Cyberman variants. I have just one quibble: How did the Doctor know what a CyberKing is? The Cybus-men have never built one before. But, given that they're parallel Cybermen, I guess it'd figure if they hit on Mondas Cybermen ideas independently.

Planet Of The Dead is where the Doctor's going to be minus both companion and TARDIS, right? I guess there's a certain logic to his TARDIS being incapacitated on dead Gallifrey, but we don't even know if the planet's still intact. And wasn't Skaro blown up by Seven?

Sageeth said...

Apparently that wasn't the "real" Skaro that 7 Destroyed but a decoy... Trust the Daleks to go as far as making a fake planet just in case the Doctor showed up... truthfully I think it is a kinda lame way of fixing that. Wibbly wobbly timey wimey would have been better, somehow they rewrote history at some point to regain the planet - or something like that. Daleks care not about the laws of time travel. Plus the Doctor can go back to before it was blown up.

As for this Christmas Special. Goood, not the best thing I have ever seen done - but good. Also someone said the cheering etc was not real emotion... hmm.. a guy just saved my ass from being squished by a giant robot... nah I wouldn't cheer him on... besides any extra niceness was needed because it is an extra family oriented Christmas Special. I think they needed that after the last one where poeple died left right and centre...

I'd rank the Christmas Specials in this order really.
Runaway Bride (2006)
The Next Doctor (2008)
Christmas Invasion (2005)
Voyage of the Damned (2007)
That is for episode overall, though some of the best scenes ever (ones that I quote regularly) come from Christmas Invasion. Especially about the big red button which should never ever be pressed and "Blood Control" which "I haven't seen blood control in years!"

Onto filling "plot holes", the cyberman ship could easily have been built during their time in the void while they would have been battling the Daleks in there and nicking the tech.

Anonymous said...

The fake Skaro explanation was given in an Eighth Doctor Adventures book, which may not be canonical. Time travel is the easiest explanation for Seven being able to visit Skaro in the movie after having blown it up in "Remembrance".

Anonymous said...

The fake Skaro was an explanation given in a book called 'War Of The Daleks'. Davros was apparently killed off forever in that book as well, although the plot was so convoluted that it's difficult to tell. It also featured Spider Daleks and underwater Daleks. It's generally considered to be one of the worst books in the series, and apparently, most fans like to pretend it doesn't exist.

Most fans would also prefer it if Doctor Who Spammer didn't exist, but you can't have everything.

The 11th Doctor will be Hugh Grant,RTD hinted at in in the Christmas Confidential, and in many other ways. Merry Christmas

Nik Nak said...

I hate to say this, Crucible, that was where RTD was listing who he’d’ve liked to have in the role

Personally, I’d’ve not taken that as read, that’ll it’ll be him.

Saying that, I’d not mind seeing the David Morissey character crop up, again.

Strikes me he’d be much like Harriet Jones –and if we don’t know who she is– a handy character, in certain situations

You are incorrect Anonymous He is Doctor who fan not Doctor who spammer and he said Where is every ohh well i alone to write comments not clog up the site with spam you Bastard.

Women can t be the Master because The master is male who make people to Obey him.

Did the Cyberking remind anyone else of Mastermold from the old X-Men comics seeing as it was a giant robot that could build other robots inside itself?

Nik Nak said...

I was Very reminded of the assorted Titan, and Dreadnought class figure released by Games Workshop, a few years ago.

Anonymous said...

Giant robots are very popular in some corners of the world. I was half-expecting it thanks to some preview reports, and it really made my day.

On the absence of the shocking twist ending RTD is reported... in one dubious source... to have mentioned: Maybe it was such a shocking twist that he removed it not just from the media preview version but from the broadcast version as well? To have a more complete ending.
