Best known for playing Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart since 1968, Nicholas had acted alongside five Doctors, including making an appearance on The Sarah Jane Adventures a few years ago.
Born in Egypt, he originally served as part of the British Army, but then decided to leave to pursue an alternate career. After joining the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art, he began to work in theatre. His first roles in TV included appearances on The Avengers and Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased).
Nicholas was originally considered for the role of Richard the Lionheart in the 1965 story, The Crusade, but was kept for further consideration. His first role in Doctor Who was not as the Brig, but as Security Agent Vyon in The Dalek's Master Plan.
His character has had an amazing legacy, as he has been mentioned several times over the course of the new series, including in The Sarah Jane Adventures.
