What Can Doctor Who Do Next Year?

We have a very long time to wait for the next series, and here's hoping it's a good one! That's not to say that Series 6 wasn't any good; it was, but here are four issues which we believe could be improved in the next series...

1. Address Melody Pond
Amy and Rory's baby is lost somewhere in time and space. Yes, they have seen her as an adult, but what about all those lost years as a baby? Surely Amy and Rory have the parental compassion to actually have her back or at least talk about not having her with them?

2. End the arc
It gets annoying when you have to wait three years for a question to be answered, so please end the arc at the end of this series! We want to know more about the Silence and we want the question to be answered, or at least addressed.

3. Amy and Rory are getting lame-y and snore-y
Okay, maybe that was a bit harsh, but please introduce some more long-term companions! One of the main reasons why Russell T Davies' stories worked so well is that he put emphasis on his characters. Maybe having a story where we follow one character around on her daily routine would do something good for the series.

4. Continue to surprise
Having said all of that, Moffat must know that his surprises are amazing and he should keep doing them!

Do you have any wishes for next year? Post them below!

Well, my wish for next year is the exact opposite of yours! Well, the first three points.

1) I believe Melody Pond's story (as opposed to River Song's) has been told.
2) The longer the arc (as long as it's good, and this is) the better.
3) Amy and Rory forever.

4) I do agree with this, though!

We still haven't found out why there were no ducks in the duck pond!

I'm with Francesco on 1) - we've pretty much been given Melody/River's whole life - all the major stuff, anyway. Much as I love Alex Kingston I think it's time we moved on from River (though I expect she's got a couple more appearances left - including the Fields of Trenzalore, no doubt).

On 2) - I like SOME long arcs, as long as they're not indecipherable to new viewers. A show survives on change and attracting new viewers. But Moffat's been stringing some of his questions out too long, when you do that you risk people giving up on your story (see: Lost).

On 3) - yes, get rid of Amy already. I'll be sad to see Rory go, but honestly Amy is love her or hate her, and I for one fall in the latter camp. She's no Jamie, Romana II or Sarah Jane Smith, two full seasons is quite enough of her.

And 4) - yes, keep the surprises coming but let's have less of the 'magic dun it' (Spitfires in Space? Headless Monks? Living Skulls? Please.) and no more throwaway characters and plots... What happened to Nasreen and Tony when the Silurians eventually woke up, for instance? And I can't be the only one wishing we'd been given an episode about either Vastra and Jenny or Strax the Sontaran instead of that lame pirate story. You can't just TELL us that Vastra and the Doctor have a history when she's one of the main characters in 'A Good Man...' - you have to SHOW it, or it feels forced. It's to the actress' credit that she makes the character really likable despite that shoddy writing.

1 - This has been completely covered. She was in America from infancy to little girlhood and then regenerated and travelled somewhat, ending up in Leadworth. There is no time unaccounted for.

Some proper daleks, not those hunchbacked ones

I was pleased with the grey Dalek in 'The Wedding of River Song' - I said from the start that the new Daleks would be ok if they weren't coloured like skittles. I expect we'll probably see some grey Daleks next time they show up, and that they'll slowly be phased out or subtly altered to make the hunchback more noticeable.

I was so delighted to see Amy & Rory alive & well & moving on with their lives in "Closing Time" unlike many friendly faces now fr*kked for their trips with the timey wimey man... '-.-'
