Anywho, this is from The Sun
Doctor Who wants to be a millionaire
NEW Doctor Who Matt Smith will get £1million to play the Time Lord for five years, The Sun can reveal.
The little-known actor, 26, has signed a £200,000-a-year deal with the BBC1 sci-fi hit. His contract ties him into the show for three years, with the option of two more after that.
Current Doctor David Tennant, 37, was said to get £1million a YEAR — but was already a well-known actor when he began. And The Sun has told how the BBC is trimming star salaries in the credit crunch.
Producers were said to be keen to keep Matt as long as possible after David announced he is to quit after three series at the height of the show’s popularity — with 12 million regular viewers. He is filming four one-offs this year.
An insider said: “Bosses don’t want Matt doing a David and leaving when things are going great.” Matt signed in December as the 11th Doctor and is working on his first series, which airs next year.
The Time Lord is limited to 12 “regenerations”, so only two more actors can play him. Eighth Doctor Paul McGann was in just the 1996 TV movie, and No9 Christopher Eccleston stayed for only one series.
The BBC would not discuss Matt’s contract but said: “All new deals are done with the economic climate in mind.”

Well I don't usually believe anything published in the Sun, but this story seems to have the ring of truth about it. Especially since it's been reported elsewhere as well.
It seems that Smithy is going to be the Doctor for quite some time to come then. At least 5 years, and possibly more if he is a success and decides to go on beyond his current contract.
Perhaps this is the the reason they cast the 11th Doctor so young. To make sure he could play the role for many years to come, putting off the need to address the 12 regeneration limit problem for as long as possible.
Interesting to think though, that in a few years time there will be a whole new generation of fans who wont even remember David Tennant as the Doctor, and for whome Smith will be the one and only.
Looks like his acting abilities come at considerably less cost than David Tennant's as well.
sigh
Another piece of "news" from The Scum quoting unnnamed sources.
How many weeks ago was it that they were reporting that the script for POTD had to be completely rewritten after the bus got damaged, when in reality they just sent out another bus to replace it and carried on as planned?
That they trotted out the 12 regeneration limit, and not only that but made it sound 100% definite, is yet another example of how idiotic the Sun is.
From the BBC site:

Now that his people are gone, who knows? Time Lords used to have 13 lives
Sounds interesting, but I'll truly believe it when the BBC reports it. The tabloids lost the last of my trust a loooooong time ago.
Got to love the Sun :)
Hey, Simon, love how you called them The Scum!
Yes, definitely The Scum. But I do think Matt's been signed for three years, and anything more than that will be up to him. I think the team wants to take no chances after Eccleston. And they cast such a young actor because he wowed them (they were planning for someone in his 40s), not because they were planning for the "end of regenerations".
Oh, and Jess, it's usually spelled "moolah".
Oh, and I thought that bit of "bosses don't want him doing a David" offensive.
>>I think the team wants to take no chances after Eccleston.<<
Smart move, really. Chris is a great actor, but that's one thing that ticks me off about the guy. Just when you start liking his characters, he's gone. Doctor Who, Heroes, etc.
Besides, they're hitting the pre-established regeneration limit, and while I think they can think of a clever way to give him more regenerations, I don't think they want to have to use that card just yet.
The source is the Sun so it is most likely fake news however if the news is true i will be seriously anoyed as that will mean his doctor wont regenerate until the end of 2015. Plus the way things are going all the doctors are getting younger and younger and there plan was to have the next doctor (After matt) bieng 20 and the final doctor bieng 16. This sounds like they could really ruin the final series`s of who. Also if the news is true then we know that if Matt smiths doctor looks like he is going to die he wont really.
Enough.
Its very irritating to have to go through all my post and delete irrelevant comments, but I will.
Please stop now.
Im sorry Jess please accept my Apology.
