At 26 years old, Matt Smith became the youngest Doctor ever! But who is he?
Born on the 28th October, 1982, Matt Smith started off as a young footballer. But a back injury stopped him from playing in 2003, and he turned to acting instead. His first performance was in theatre, in a play called Murder in the Cathedral. His career was very successful - having acted alongside Christian Slater, Lindsay Duncan, Billie Piper and Felicity Jones both on stage, and on screen.
One of his major roles, was playing Danny Foster in the TV series Party Animals.
But you may know him as Jim Taylor in the specials based on Phillip Pullman's books - alongside Billie Piper.
In 2008, Matt Smith's life changed forever when he was casted as the Eleventh Doctor!
Here is a preview of what is to come in Spring 2010!
You may not like Matt Smith, but the fact is, we haven't seen any episodes from Series Five yet! How can you judge someone based on what we have seen?
Welcome aboard,
Matt Smith!

Just a quick point - not to be pedantic! Ruby in the Smoke is written by Pullman, but it's not related to Dark Materials.
Thanks for the great clips!
Sorry to be picky but you've put 'here's what is to come in Spring 2009' it should be 2010
Sorry to be picky, but this is a GREAT post. I was dreading the new Doctor, but watching this he might actually be good.
From the moment I saw Matt Smith wriggling his fingers in The 11th Doctor special a year ago, I've been thinking that he is gonna be fantastic!
I have a lot of hope for our new Doctor, and who is the red head showing up in the clip repeatedly? Could we have a cute new companion. River Song did have red hair! They are probably just trying to throw us off.
Have you been hibernating or on another planet for the last six months or something, daughteroftheRiver ?
I loved your blog. Thank you.
