Blimey, that was quick!

Well, Digitalspy are certainly on the ball! Silence in the Library only aired a few hours ago and they're already giving away hints about Forest of the Dead!

You can see the full post here, but here are the possible spoilers for this week, accompanied by two red herrings
  • River Song sometimes shows The Doctor a little respect and asks him about erasure.

  • The Shadows have a proper vocalist that's not Cliff Richard.

  • Doctor Moon challenges someone to a game of chess on which millions of lives depend.

  • The Shadows take hold of River Song's diary and coerce The Doctor into using a gun because of what they discover.

  • A Gareth Gates-style affliction prevents Cupid from firing his arrow.
True according to another digitalspy report, Donna soon gets "a stuttering spouse"

  • River Song tells The Doctor that he is not The Doctor.

  • The little girl destroys every idiot's lantern to prevent the shadows seeping into present day Earth.

  • A familiar female face from the past returns to give Donna some advice.

  • Donna ties a very important knot.

  • The Doctor is stunned by something River Song whispers in his ear.
True according to another digitalspy report "To say that, by the end of the episode, we find out what she said would only be a half-truth."
And here be some quotes. You can see the full article here
"I trust that man to the end of the universe - and we've been."
"There are no ***** (books? Souls?) in a library."
"The world is wrong."
"Nobody can open a TARDIS by ******** (clicking?) their ******* (fingers?)"
"If he **** (dies?), I'll kill him."
"I've been treating you since you came here two years ago."

Commence speculation!

Oh, gosh.
They really ARE cryptic, aren't they?
I really don't know which one's are the red herrings...:(

First post get.

"It also contains enough ammo to blow any Catherine Tate doubters out of the water and into the stratosphere." so shes deffo alive

Anonymous said...

Let's face it, was there any doubt she's alive? I still think there's more to the Nodes than meets the eye, and that Dr Moon and Lux are vital, but we shall see. As for the hints, I honestly can't tell which are real and which are fake, but I hope the chess game one is true. That would be awesome, especially if the one he challenges is the Doctor

Yeh the chess one sounds like curse of fenric would be good if it was real to tie into that great story. (Robin W)

The Shadows take hold of River Song's diary and coerce The Doctor into using a gun because of what they discover.

A familiar female face from the past returns to give Donna some advice.

I'm sorry, not meaning to sound dumb or anything, but what exactly IS a "Red Herring"?

n.t. said...

It's usually a false clue of some sort - in this case, the Digital Spy gives us a bunch of clues about the next episode, but two of them are misleading or just plain wrong.

Tardis-Tinker said...

omg!! Does Donna tie the not as in MARRAIGE?? i kinda doubt it but OMG!

ans could somebody please tell me what a red herring is?

Anonymous said...

Well there have been photos of Donna in a wedding dress, so that a defo yes...

Jess said...

There were set reports that showed Donna in a wedding dress...

A red herring is what usually happens in a murder mystery or something, its a false clue that leads you in the wrong direction.

Anonymous said...

I bet tying and important knot turns out to be something silly, like her tying the Doctor's shoelace becuase he's been infected by the shadow and can't bend down or something :D

Anonymous said...

River Song tells The Doctor that he is not The Doctor

Nope...He's the Doctor but not her Doctor..another universe perhaps?

The little girl destroys every idiot's lantern to prevent the shadows seeping into present day Earth.

Nope..Dr Moon tells her that her dreams are real and that reality is a dream so why destroy tv sets?

StormWolf said...

Well, I'm stumped. Can't figure these out this time. Can't even hazard a guess. lol

River Song sometimes shows The Doctor a little respect and asks him about erasure.
Probably something to do with Data Ghosts or Nodes.

The Shadows have a proper vocalist that's not Cliff Richard.
Okay.

Doctor Moon challenges someone to a game of chess on which millions of lives depend.
Doctor Moon = Death from that Ingvar Bergman movie? I’m guessing he’ll challenge Donna or the Girl, if he challenged the Doctor then he’d loose.

The Shadows take hold of River Song's diary and coerce The Doctor into using a gun because of what they discover.
I highly doubt it.

A Gareth Gates-style affliction prevents Cupid from firing his arrow.
Stammering…Doctor Stammers and is unable to tell rose he loves her? I’m probably wrong.

River Song tells The Doctor that he is not The Doctor.
Yes. It sound strange and this is Moffat, so yes.

The little girl destroys every idiot's lantern to prevent the shadows seeping into present day Earth.
Yes. It sounds awesome so yes.

A familiar female face from the past returns to give Donna some advice.
Yes. Rose.

Donna ties a very important knot.
Marries Lance?

The Doctor is stunned by something River Song whispers in his ear.
‘Doctor. Donna will die at the end of this season.’
‘Ack! I said no Spoilers!’

Everyone needs to go out and watch "Clue: the movie" right now, for the sole purpose of that fantastic line: "No, Communism was just a red herring." And, of course, to see Tim Curry as a butler.

The little girl destroys every idiot's lantern to prevent the shadows seeping into present day Earth.
I for one am not convinced that the little girl is ON present day Earth, so this one gets my vote.

As for River telling the Doctor he is not the Doctor, that's just too weird to be a red herring. That's got to be a real one.

Anonymous said...

I just thought of something. About the part where Donna's face is speaking and saying "Donna Noble has been saved", and it made me think of the bit earlier with "4022 saved, no survivors". I'm wondering if this might have something to do with the nodes?

Hey, cool idea!

The little girl destroys every idiot's lantern to prevent the shadows seeping into present day Earth.

I hope not to see the "Wire" ever again, damm she was annoying.

Anonymous said...

"River Song tells The Doctor that he is not The Doctor."

Maybe they are in an alternate reality and really belong in the little girl's world. How that works out, I'm not sure. But it's happened before!

Anonymous said...

The little girl is the core.

Anonymous said...

"River Song tells The Doctor that he is not The Doctor."

This one is just so *weird* that I think it must be true -- who would make that up???

I feel like the one about the diary might be a red herring because the Shadows haven't proven themselves to be particularly clever or purposeful thus far.

Unknown said...

The returning female face - could be Ms Evangelista - we know she's in the next episode from set report photographs...

SNBCSinger said...

The Shadows take hold of River Song's diary and coerce The Doctor into using a gun because of what they discover.

Remember in the Family of Blood? Even as John Smith he couldn't even fire a rifle.

And remember what he said in The Doctor's Daughter:

"I never would. Have you got that? I. Never. Would."

As for River Song telling The Doctor that he is not The Doctor, it's Steven Moffat.

Everything will sort in the end but right now, it's cryptic as hell.

Blimey, I love Doctor Who!

Anonymous said...

Yes...Donna Noble is "saved". I wondered if it's "saved" as data. If the little girl is the core, then everyone's still "alive" in the databank and therefore no life forms.

Also, I think Dr. Song is Capt. Jack (aka Face of Boe)... You know, the who 51st century, using the psychic paper to send a message, in love with the Doc. Her true identity is probably what "she" whispers in his ear. I've wondered how the Face of Boe had (or will have) kids.

I think the red herrings are the gun and the cupid thing.

iN THE TRAILER THE dOCTOR SAYS 'dON'T PLAY GAMES WITH ME'.

cHESS ONE?

Sorry, caps lock on...

Anonymous said...

I thought the same thing about the 'saving'. I reckon that when trouble arose, the library saved everyone as data in its giant databanks. Somehow they'll all come back, especially of course, Donna. That's what the flickering was when she arrived in the TARDIS I bet - she was being 'downlaoaded' to save her. Perhaps whilst in there she learns more about her life story.

How can I wait until next week?????

Anonymous said...

"The Doctor is stunned by something River Song whispers in his ear."
perhaps about Rose's return?
We knew Donna was leaving but we now know it's probably going to be quite nasty due to the fact of the Conversation between Donna and River song. Maybe the marriage is if she sees into her past and somehow changes the empress of racnoss, this would fit with the removal of the Doctor, and if the Doctor is removed the "flashback" filmed with Judoon might be of what would of happened if he hadn't exsisted or something.

We know full well Donna isn't dead as she is in trailers talking to Rose, I know time is in flux but this is all pre-filmed, people ;)

I don't see the Doctor ever having a "girlfriend" as River Song seems to suggest she is, she also implies she is only with the doctor whilst he is in his 10th regeneration and with him for a long time, and as she's not young pretty or even funny I don't see her being cast as a companion. Perhaps she dies in the Forest of the Dead so the Doctor only ever meets her once.

I'm so excited, fuck my GCSE's the next few weeks is WHOWHOWHO
20 days till Rose XD

Anonymous said...

I meant to say the Doctor would chose to meet River Song this one time if she dies,
other wise he knows full well they'd be lovers but she would die resulting in yet another heartbreak.
Or maybe the spoilers allow something to be changed and she never met the Doctor herself.
Or the fact it is not "her" Doctor,
I really don't see her and him together, past, present or future!

Anonymous said...

the nodes were 'saved' in the flesh bank and what do vashta nerada eat... flesh!
they must be saving people as nodes to eat their flesh. what this means for donna i have no idea but she's alive anyway

Anonymous said...

The girl is the core, so:

"The little girl destroys every idiot's lantern to prevent the shadows seeping into present day Earth."

Makes no sense.

"Doctor Moon challenges someone to a game of chess on which millions of lives depend."

I think this is also unlikely, but it's a tough call.

As for the comment about the Doctor never using a gun, well, there's more than one way to use a gun. Whilst he didn't fire one in The Doctors Daughter, he did use it to make a point at the end of the episode. "Use" doesn't necessarily mean "fire".

Can I just ask, what is the Font that is used for Doctor Who? Like on the site and the Logo for Planet Gallifrey TV.

Anonymous said...

the font is deviant strain

My guess is the red herrings are the idiot's latern (TV) and chess clues. Both are references to past episodes: The idiot's latern to The Idiot's Latern, and the chess game to The Curse of Fenric (from the original Who). One thing I noticed is in past clue that the red herrings usually refer to past episodes (but not always).

Tardis-Tinker said...

thank you jess for the red herring info! i felt like a spanner asking that! (hmm! maybe i was a laser spanner?! lol) but i saw the pics of donna in the wedding dress! omg! i cant wait!!!

Anonymous said...

When going on hunts in England, sometimes herrings would be dragged across the fields to confuse the hounds - which is the origin of this phrase. Their scent was the 'red herring'

n.t. said...

I changed my mind. Two red herrings:

Doctor Moon challenges someone to a game of chess on which millions of lives depend.

A Gareth Gates-style affliction prevents Cupid from firing his arrow.

Anonymous said...

For everyone who thinks that the Doctor would/has never use(d) a gun:

Invasion of Time: Fourth Doctor has another Time Lord and K9 construct and he uses a forbidden Time Lord weapon: the Demat Gun, which erases people from time itself.

Resurrection of the Daleks: Fifth Doctor is going to kill Davros, and even his companions arguing against it can't stop him, but Davros stops him by lying about changing the Daleks to be more human and have emotions.

Revelation of the Daleks: Sixth Doctor shoots a Dalek's eyestick and then uses a grenade to destroy it.

Dalek: The ninth Doctor is ready to blow that Dalek to bits and warns Rose to get away until she persuades him not to kill the Dalek.

The Girl in the Fireplace: The fire extinguisher was basically a gun that shot ice.

If I'm missing any, I can only defend myself by saying that I haven't watched every episode looking for gun references, I'm just referring to the ones I remember. Oh, and "using" a gun doesn't necessarily mean "firing" it.

n.t. said...

The squareness gun is also a gun.

TenthDoctor'sLove said...

Hi!First of all,I would like to say that I absolutely LOVED SITL (aka Silence in the Library) but I HATED River Song with all my Ten/Rose shipper's heart.
Anyway, apart from my personal feelings,I do agree with the fact that she'll tell the Doctor that he's not 'her'Doctor since she's from an alternate universe since it seems the only logical thing to occur(except that Moffat's stories seldom progress logically as we all know).Secondly,I agree with the fact that ''A Gareth Gates-style affliction prevents Cupid from firing his arrow.''I mean come on people! We have all seen Series 1 and 2(especially 2)!Anyone,who DOESN'T think the Doctor would have said 'I love you' back to Rose at the end of Doomsday is more oblivious than Ten usually is!Even David himself said it on the 'Runaway Bride' DVD commentary;when Julie Gardner said that the Doc looked kinda down DT was like ''Course he is!The man just lost the love of his life!''(If anyone still has doubts, please check the particular episode's dvd commentary)

''River Song sometimes shows The Doctor a little respect and asks him about erasure.''
I seriously doubt it since she said to him 'I'm becoming worse than you'

# Doctor Moon challenges someone to a game of chess on which millions of lives depend.

# The Shadows take hold of River Song's diary and coerce The Doctor into using a gun because of what they discover.

I think the 1st is false cause it's a bit irrelevant IMHO and 2nd...well,I'm skeptical about that since I agree with the fact that 'using'a gun doesn't necessarily mean firing it.

The little girl destroys every idiot's lantern to prevent the shadows seeping into present day Earth.
That's false too since it refers to the idiot's lantern (series 2 episode 7)

Finally as for:

# A familiar female face from the past returns to give Donna some advice.

# Donna ties a very important knot.

# The Doctor is stunned by something River Song whispers in his ear.

1.Yes,that's definitely Rose.
2.Ties the knot does mean marriage but there's got to be more to it than that.
3.Defo true and I'd bet my life that it has smth to do with Rose.

Oof!That was it!Sorry for the length of it.Hope I didn't bore you.:)
Oh god,WHEN WILL IT BE SATURDAY AGAIN?????????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"A familiar female face from the past returns to give Donna some advice."

I think it's Evangelista, not Rose...

Jess said...

I think you might be right n.t

A lot of people seem to think Rose will turn up to help Donna... I'm not exactly arguing the case (I'd probably loose, plus I'd love to see Rose again)

BUT, if Donna's inside a computer, how does Rose turn up?

n.t. said...

'twas really jaded's idea, I quote:

"The returning female face - could be Ms Evangelista - we know she's in the next episode from set report photographs..."

Anonymous said...

for the person who said about the doctor and guns- that was pre-timewar doctor. the war changed him and he doesn't like killing any more. anyway he said it himself "i never would"

Jess said...

What if he has no choice?

Anonymous said...

i suppose.... but what circumstances would that be under? it would have to be absolute life or death. I suppose that with the sqareness gun it isn't actually lethal so he might just use it to escape

Tardis-Tinker said...

i have been told Rose does not return until the 11th or 12th episode! So . . . even though I wish it's Rose, I don't think it will be her!

Anonymous said...

The Doctor is stunned by something River Song whispers in his ear.
True according to another digitalspy report "To say that, by the end of the episode, we find out what she said would only be a half-truth."

perhaps she dies so she cant be his companion?

Anonymous said...

Well yeah its to do with the nodes when it says 4022 saved no survivors I think the library's data core thinks all the people got saved because they got turned into nodes but I think the shadows turned them into nodes by killing them. So when they got turned into nodes it means 4022 saved but they got killed so that is what it means by no survivors. well thats what I think

Anonymous said...

If River Song dies, how does she know the Doctor from his future?

DarCald said...

Because she knows him from *his* future which is *her* past...I always wonder if my thinking was permanently altered by watching Who as a kid, but it always amazes me when people can't think thru such things (and I don't at all mean to sound like a jerk if that came across that way!).
This is how it's working - The Doc is a time traveller. So pretend the 5th Doctor travelled to 2008 Earth and met Martha Jones. Now, we know the Doc didn't actually travel with Martha until his 10th regen. So Martha in 2008 has already travelled with the 10th Doctor and therefore meeting the 5th DOctor (and realizing who he was) would be like River is now - she knows him because she met him in *her* past, but the 5th DOc wouldn't have a clue who she was because he hadn't travelled with her yet. Does that make sense? Sort of like when the 10th Doc went back in time and djusted his tie in front of Martha on the street - she didn't know who he was at that point in her life, just as when she asked im about the tie bit in the hospital he didn't know what she was talking about because he hadn't done it yet.
So, Martha from 2008 could very well die in front of the 5th DOctor, but as his own timeline moves on and in his 10th incarnation he meets Martha and they travel together - because that Martha hasn't yet died.
(and using the 5th Doc is just to help simplify the temporal point in the Doc's life - personally I think River knows the Doc in his 10th incarnation, not (necessarily) a future one).
