Silence of the Library has hit our screens! And it was fantastic!

This episode can now be seen on youtube here, here, and here (best quality)
So, other than a very subtle hint at Rose and Bad Wolf (so subtle that I missed it completely!) there wasn't much mention of story arcs really...
But there also wasn't much in the way of spoilers from the books in the Library, and RTD did say that they would play and big big part...

according to tardis wiki the story arc is darkness, and rtd said its going to be something the master said, and he says smething like " the last of humanity screaming out at the darkness"
yes but surely if darkness was a story arc they wouldnt have talked about it in the mid series trailer, they'd have kept it a secret
How do people watch episodes early?
some people consider it work!! it's part of their job
I would definately do that as a job :D
Wasn't she holding a sonic screwdriver in her hand?!
She was. I need to go check the promo pictures of her again, but I couldn't see much out of the ordinary other than that
WOW, that episode was terrifying and i dont get easily scared, however my fear of the darkness which i didnt realize until now is not irrational. I got well teary during the ghosting of miss evangelista. However i really don't like River Song, certain arrogance about her..oh and shes playing the neglected companion/ more than that but i dont want to think about it..
The best episode in the series so far. Where to begin? Scary, intelligent, witty....Moffet never disappoints.
So who is this River Song? What does she know, where is she from? What about the expression on her face when she recognised the name Donna Noble?
Can't wait for the next part.
There certainly seems to be something between The Doctor (in the future) and River Song, she even has HIS sonic screwdriver (as I correctly predicted!), the only question left is this - is she telling the truth?
lots more thoughts on this show on my blog :)
'Fraid I was disappointed. The whole ep hinged on Song-Doctor relationship and Moffet's obviously read Time Travellers Wife. The openning scene between "pretty boy" and her was right out of it, almost word for word. Sigh.
Alex Kingston = MILF !
was it me or was the sonic screw driver different, i presume its just an other one that belongs to the doctor?
also why are certain letters underlined?
think it could be Martha or the master, she said "I've been to the end of the universe" she does seem to have the masters sinister way with things.
Gonna watch it again, great episode.
Interesting hints. Could Dr Moon perhaps play the chess game against either the girl or her father, perhaps? Or Donna, seeing as it's been stated they meet?
I must admit, not as horrifying in a bad way as I thought it might be when I saw the "hello, sweetie" clip. :) I was so afraid they'd sit there and start going on and on about it, but she said it and then the story moved on.
The episode freaked me out, made me laugh, made me wonder...I think I'll give it a thumbs up, and kiss Moff's feet for not turning it into another Girl in the Fireplace. I like that episode, but we don't need more than one. The original was just fine, thank you. ;)
You said there was no Rose reference but there was. When Dr Moon is talking to the little girl there's a child's painting of a blonde girl with a painting of a wolf underneath.
Really?! I missed that one! Well done for spotting it.
rose kind of made an appearence on a wall in that little girls house.there was drawing of her above a drawing of a wolf (bad wolf)
ah pazithi beat me to it
i saw the pics of rose and the wolf too!
You guys are brilliant, I hadn't spotted that! And thanks for the links Jess!!!
River seems kinda like a Doctor-Stalker. I loved the episode though. It was terrifying!
I'm probably way off beam, but did anyone notice the other drawing which looked like the Editor? Also, the name. 'Pretty boy'?
'He's a bit pretty'. Quote from Doc nine.
Oooh, and the blue light on the breast plate of their space suits. Could that be what we see when the mysterious Dalek (Davros/Harriet Jones rumours) wheels itself into the room in a later episode?
Great episode. As for River Song, I have a nasty feeling that she is going to die at the end of the next episode. That means the Doctor will meet her in the future and fall in love with her knowing she will one day be gone. Sad ending. (Also doesn't mess with continuity).
Did anyone else get the feeling the talking-through-the-TV was a bit familiar?
I mean- Girl in the Fireplace, he talks through a fireplace to a young girl who has no idea what he's doing there. Same thing here, only with a TV. Plus, there was that talking through the TV scene in Blink.
Anyway, I really enjoyed the plot/setting of this episode- I just didn't like River. I'm getting a bit tired of the romance plots and women throwing themselves at the Doctor everywhere he goes. I liked his chemistry with Rose, but then there was Reinette and Martha and Joan and Astrid... it's getting redundant, in my opinion.
I know I'm not the only one whos figured this out but the Doctor pretty much has to date River just to preserve his own time line.
I mean he gives her his sonic because he KNOWS he gives her his sonic, and he takes her on a picnic because he KNOWS he takes her on a picnic.
(Cause she gave him spoilers.)
I'm just saying its a forced/neccesary relationship, and thats probably got to be a drag at times.
I'm sorry if that didn't make sense. X)
Folks, a question for you - I've read on another blog that "Hasta Manana, Vashta Nerada" means something, and for the life of me I can't figure this one out (it's possible I'm being had, but it's bothering me nonetheless). Hasta Manana of course is "See you tomorrow," but what DOES the name of the evil little air piranhas mean?
The Doctor said it was 'shadows that melt the flesh.'
Did anyone notice that shot of Donna's hand very close to the beginning, when they first saw the Vashta Nerada? She was wearing that ring from "The Doctor's Daughter" again that caused some speculation about whether it was the same ring from the Series 3 finale. I wasn't too convinced by that theory at the time, but frankly having a whole shot focused on her hand tugging on the Doctor's sleeve makes me wonder. I mean, her nails were nice, but not necessarily worth seconds of screen time.
River Song annoyed the HECK out of me, and not just because I'm a Rose loyalist. Enough with the mysterious women already - especially proprietorial ones! I'm just praying she turns out to be the Master...or the Rani...or a character who gets written out of history. Hey, if we can lose whole planets, what's an annoying mysterious woman here or there?
And yes, Stephen Moffat is very sophisticated for teasing us all about our yens for spoilers, but HE doesn't have to wait weeks and weeks to find out what the heck is going on in this show! The suspense is killing me...it makes the vashta nerada seem like, well, a picnic with the Doctor. :)
oh! and: Lux means light. As in the antithesis of shadows. Eeenteresting.
Hey, did you guys notice how before the Proper Dave/skeleton/Shadow steps in on them, River takes Doctor's hand and says: "Run!"? And they run! Almost, well no, Exactly like Ninth Doctor and Rose! I know it's hardly the first thing she says to him, but VERY reminiscent!
I know she's probably not, but at times, I was thinking that she's a future incarnation of the Doctor, female one, which for some reason Doctor doesn't recognize, although it doesn't fit everything. But would've been interesting, wouldn't it?
So, I guess, that 4022 people were 'saved' in the same way as Donna and quite possibly are alive as software or something, which means that Doctor will probably save them all at the end, since we know he'll save Donna.
I did notice little girl's drawings too, but I could swear it was a cat! Maybe it's a different one, need to rewatch it! :)
Did anybody think that Evangelista dying first was a bit cliche?
I think the character called lux is a diliberate reference to the 2000ad series the ballard of halo jones which had a character caled lux roth chop in it
but halo jones sucked ass!
now that flaying girl has mentioned it donna and other could be saved as a form data ghosts....how to get her back into her own body, who knows?
Maybe, just maybe, River Song is the Master. I'd say that theory out of many is the most possible but I doubt it anyway, since it's
Moffat.
Why does everyone keep thinking The Rani's coming back =S
I don't think she will.
Could be wrong.
Good episode btw =)
A RIVER comes from a STREAM, and an anagram of stream is MASTER, we know the master likes anagrams!
loads of new info about the episode on my blog!
*snort*
This is worse than the season opener, when people were running around saying "Well, Doctor FOSTER went to Gloucester in a shower of rain, and guess what? Rain is an anagram for Rani!!! SHE'S THE RANI!"
While I love guessing games as the next person... give me some proof that doesn't involve switching round letters.
If River Song is the Rani or the Master, I'll eat my sonic screwdriver!
River song is not the rani or the master
River song is not the rani or the master
Well, do you think she's the master now? lol
