Newness

Hooray for all things BBC and their glorious updates!

If you live in the land of tea and crumpets then I suggest you check out the BBC site nowish for some pretty pictures and all things Who.

For those who come from far off places, then I shall relay all to you!
So, we have the usual jigsaw which looks like this:

And gives away this bit of script:

OTHER DAVE
Who is he? You haven't even said, you just expect us to trust him.
SONG
He's the Doctor.
LUX (joining them)
And who's the Doctor?
SONG
The only story you'll ever tell - if you survive him.
ANITA
You say he's your friend. But he doesn't even know who you are.
SONG
All you need to know is this: I'd trust this man to the end of the universe - and actually, we've been.

Theres the preview clip

And, of course, the Fear Factor!
  • 1 min - Harry shakes his head. "Too many shadows!"

  • 2 min - "Cool!" grins Samuel. "Different music for different scenes!"

  • 3 min - "Hey, he knows her!" realises Samuel. "He's the bad guy now!"

  • 4 min - "Very, very interesting," says Samuel and strokes his chin pensively, and decides: "This is getting really strange."

  • 6 min - The kids go "Oooooh" with delight. And then... Harry chews his t-shirt nervously.

  • 7 min - "So has Martha!" says Samuel. Amy smiles.

  • 8 min - "What did she say?" asks Amy. The boys enter into a frenzy of speculation. And then they whoop with delight!

  • 10 min - The kids look at her sadly.

  • 12 min - There's a strange shape.

  • 13 min - Amy knows that something's very, very wrong...

  • 14 min - "This is so cool!" yells Samuel.

  • 16 min - "They've got him." Harry winces.

  • 18 min - A very scary moment! Amy and Harry jump! "Woah!" says Adam.

  • 23 min - "What does that mean?" asks Samuel. "What are they teaching kids in Maths these days?" grumbles Dad.

  • 24 min - Harry's delighted! "Don't get any ideas," says Dad.

  • 25 min - The kids' faces light up with excitement.

  • 27 min - Amy bites her bottom lip. Samuel snuggles up to his own Dad.

  • 29 min - The family goggle in amazement.

  • 33 min - Samuel goes "Ooooh" because he's sure he's heard that somewhere before.

  • 35 min - Mum and Amy are upset. "That was cool and strange and sad," whispers Samuel.

  • 36 min - "And so's the train!" grins Adam.

  • 39 min - "Don't leave them there!" shouts Samuel...

I think we can place the script-exctract around this time.

Digital Spy gave away some quotes too:

"I trust that man to the end of the universe - and we've been."
"There are no ***** in a library."
"The world is wrong."
"Nobody can open a TARDIS by ******** their *******."
"If he ****, I'll kill him."
"I've been treating you since you came here two years ago."

Anonymous said...

Yup, thats mentioned in the Digitalspy post that Jess has linked at the bottom of the page.

We think the words are "books", "clicking", "fingers", and "dies"

Anonymous said...

Oh man, now that's a teaser. I wonder what on earth she whispered to him? Will we even find out on Saturday, or will Moffat leave the question forever unanswered?

Anonymous said...

I swear I've read somewhere that it will be half answered. Whatever that means...

Jess said...

From Digitalspy:
"To say that, by the end of the episode, we find out what she said would only be a half-truth."

Confusing!

rainbowstrawberries said...

? what does that mean?

maybe she knows his real name?

Jess said...

Or maybe its clever wording and it just means that we actually find out what she said around the middle of the episode... if that makes sense.

Anonymous said...

What jess said makes sense, but I doubt it'd be that simple. I'm hoping it is some deep little secret that he never told anyone, like his name, or something he did or, "You once had a crush on the Master" or sth, but I'm terrified that it will be "I'm Rose" or "Rose/Donna/Martha will die within # of journeys"

Anonymous said...

You know the exclusive clip on the BBC site? What does River Song call The Doctor? She says "Dear God, you're hard work ****" What is the missing word? He seems quite suprised to hear it...

Jess said...

"Dear God, you're hard work young!"

Anonymous said...

I agree with the fact it must be something he's never told anyone else. Maybe River Song says something about the Time War or The Doctor's family? Which is why she's sorry to bring it up. I can't think of many other things that the Doctor would instantly trust her over

Anonymous said...

I bet she tells him either that Rose is coming back soon or that Donna is going to die soon. Possibly the latter, as that would explain why she is apologising - sounds like something you would say to someone who had just lost someone.

Or perhaps she tells him something about Jenny.

Anonymous said...

But the problem with the idea that she tells him something like "Rose is coming back" or "Donna dies", that would be something that hasn't happened yet, so he won't trust her after hearing it. It's gotta be something that he's never told anybody, but that's already happened/is a fact. Otherwise, he wouldn't know that he trusted her enough.

That's my two cents. ;)

MASC said...

I reckon she'll say his name, but we won't get to hear it (it'll cut away or something, probly focus the camera on his shocked face) but we will find out that she said his name, even though the actual name is never revealed - if you know what I mean... hence half-truth.

For what it's worth... River is about to whisper something that the Doc had kept secret,
something that only he and the TARDIS would know. (It makes sense that the TARDIS would have information about his past/future. Yeah?)
Which takes me back to Dalek/TheLong Game... and Adam.
Yep, I know I've said it before, but if you look back, in just about every episode, there is a reference to the Bible (Davros created the Dalek in a story called Genesis of the Dalek. What's the name of the First Man in the Book of Genesis in the Bible?)
Computers or parts of, are repeatedly mentioned. Adam was a wuss, but he was also a genius. He had the universe at his feet. He'd uploaded the history of mankind AND he'd travelled with the Doctor, giving him the ability to 'kick start' a Dalek. Rose gave him the TARDIS key. What was he doing, (apart from getting an information spike in his head)while Rose and the Doc were fighting Max? Did he go to the TARDIS and access her data bank which would hold untold information about the Doctor?
Re-watch the episode's. See what you think.
Going back to River. I don't think that she actually KNOWS him. She's not a future companion or his wife... or Rose- Martha - Rani blagh blagh blagh.
She's a plant. She's getting her information from elsewhere, and freaking the Doctor out by relaying it so he will trust her. I don't think that she's real. She's part of a computer programme...designed by the future Dalek Emperor. Adam.
Remember, she lies, she always lies.
Jess, I'm sorry that my post was long. I just needed to vent my spleen. Hey, I'm a Leeds lass! You know how much we can ramble;-)

I love the line: "Look at you: quarreling like an old married couple!" And looks on Doctor's and River's faces! Priceless :)

Yes, I bet one of the lines is: "If he dies, I'll kill him". I suppose, cos otherwise she'll never meet him, and oops: another paradox.

Well, like I said before, she can whisper Doctor's real name (and we'll never hear it), but why does she need to say sorry? Is his real name pains him so much? It's possible of course, that he chose Doctor after some great personal tragedy (perhaps the death of his family), so any reminder of his name would also remind him of that.
What other trustworty info can she tell him? Names of his kids? Any info on Rose/Donna/Martha's future isn't necessarily trustworthy, I mean she could make it up, so yes, I agree with other people, it's got to be something deeply personal. Like: Luke, I'm your father :)

I wonder if he's going to add red setting and dampeners to his sonic screwdriver after this story?

I suppose he still hadn't built a remote control for Tardis, like he said he needed in 'Poison Sky', otherwise he could just get Tardis here.

Anonymous said...

As a total side comment in response to the last post, it's totally bizarre that he hasn't made some sort of remote control or 'return to owner' type control on the TARDIS isn't it? I mean, it can lock onto the nearest gravity source when adrift, and he is a genius, but it can't come back to him!

Anyone else got "Hey - who turned out the lights?...Donna Noble has left the library....." echoing around their head all week???

Anonymous said...

this reminds me a little of 'artemis fowl:the eternity code' (ignore me if you haven't read it) butler tells artemis his real name just as he thinks he is about to die.
then in 'the opal deception' artemis says butlers real name to prove his identity and bring his memory back.

maybe it is the doctor's real name that river song whispers?

Anonymous said...

I think he's going to talk about needing a remote, but he'll never build it, (or rather writers won't write it) because otherwise all the problems would be Very easily solved and you won't have any drama/struggle/etc. in the story.
Although, if the writers'll think of clever stories where even Tardis can't help, then maybe Doctor will have a remote.

Yep, I did have "Donna Noble has been saved..." :) in my head.

Re; Saying his name...

In Series 3 the Carrionites say, ""There is no name. Why would a man hide his title in such despair?" so maybe there is some massive emotional trauma going on?

Unknown said...

And also "Your name. It is more then just a secret, isn't it?" from "The Girl in the Fireplace"

Anonymous said...

Dont they (the timelords) chose their name after that inatation trial?
AS didnt the doc say to the master somethign like that "wow "the master" as a name, that caused quite a stir with the psychologists"

or something along the lines of, or to suggest that =S

Jess said...

A lot of Time Lords keep their own name, like Borusa, Andread, Azmel, Drax, and even Romana kinda (although its shortened)

Then there are a few who have titles, like Commander Hildred, or Lord President Pandad, Chancellor Goth etc

Both the Doctor and the Master chose their titles, but they still have their real names - the Master is actually called Koschei, and the we don't know the Doctor's.

He was called Theta Sigma by an old class mate, but that was just a nickname, not his true one.

So I think its just the Doctor who chooses to hide his name for whatever reason.

Could she be his sister, or something? River Song, I mean.
Or his mother, or some other family relation? She could be his, like future companion, future wife, but I don't think she's his daughter, or jenny or anyone like that. It wouldn't make the way she talks to him sound right.
She could tell him something about Gallifrey or the Time War, perhaps?

n.t. said...

If she's a family relation, or a fellow Time Lord/Lady at all, why doesn't he recognise her?!?

Anonymous said...

I think some people are over reading this a bit.

In 'Silence in the library' when checking the diary the way River Song looks at the Doctor and the way she puts her hand on his face. Not for me a normal thing with my family. She clearly loves him.

And she must have been with to the doctor at some point as we've never really seen the Doctor mention 'no spoilers' to anyone other than Donna. [not in my memory at any rate.]
And there's the recurring mention of the sonic screwdrivers.

I think that she's got the right personality for someone the Doctor might choose as well. They are like a married couple.

StormWolf said...

I do agree that a lot of people are overdoing it a bit.

I am 99.9999999% sure that she's:

1) Not a family member
2) Not a Time Lady of any sort (including the Rani)
3) Not a Time Lord in a female body (ie, not the Master)
4) Not Jack as a woman
5) Not the little girl grown up.

6) Just a woman from his future that he will have a strong relationship with, likely romantic, whether mutual or unrequited.

But remember, this is the 51st century. So perhaps, after thousands of years, K9 has evolved into a human being - River Song

3 new novels-ness

One thing Ive noticed is when she has her helmet on she kinda looks like the face of boe, which is a bit unfortunate
XD

but as said i doubt she is jack

robots can evolve?

Michelle said...

LOL. I will never, and I mean NEVER, be able to look at K9 the same way again if it turns out he evolves into someone who calls the Doctor "sweetie." That must have been a shock the first time it happened: "Affirmateev, sweetie."

I don't think she's Jack either, but actually of all the Who characters she reminds me the most of him.

Ah well, tomorrow our long national nightmare will be over (or at least progressed). Tomorrow is Whoday!!

Just about the most disturbing thing I've ever read on here...I now find myself praying that it is jack. oh k9....(shudders)

James said...

K9 as River Song.
No. No no no no.
No.
" If he dies, I'll kill him."
lol sounds like something Donna would say.

Michelle said...

Actually, the idea of River Song as Jack is growing on me, as bizarre and cheesy as it sounds. It occurred to me that a great thing for RS to say in Dr's ear would be "You are not alone." Because that would prove that she knows him and knows a lot about his past, and it would also be disturbing and mysterious and spoiler-like for the future, since as far as the Doctor knows the Master is dead.

It would also be only "half" explained for the viewer (as DigitalSpy predicts), since we know it would mean the Master is still around but we still wouldn't have any more information about it.

In short, River Song as Jack is just stupid enough to be true. :)

Ah, how I shall miss the wild speculation of this past week.

Michelle said...

Also, in terms of the objections with pretty much all characters that they've seen him young so can't be RS:

When the Doctor regenerates, he says to Rose that he's never seen all the wonders of the universe, "not with these eyes, anyway." And Doctor 9 also says that "he" won't take Rose to Barcelona and acts like its a big goodbye before he regenerates, even though he clearly remains the same entity with the same memories. So there's precedent for starting fresh with reckoning what you've seen and done when someone gets a new body.

So, if she's Rose Regenerated (which I don't favor), she might just not have seen him in her current body; likewise if she's Jack after whatever the smoo he does to himself on the way to becoming the Face of Boe. Likewise the Master...you get the idea.

On the other hand, maybe she's just an insanely irritating future companion/love interest from the Doctor's future. I have trouble dealing with that as a Dr/Rose shipper, but we all must make sacrifices. :)

Anonymous said...

I admit that there are a lot of parallels between Jack and RS, [and as much as I wish it were true] but honestly, it's aimed for families.

Sure, Jack is bi, but I don't honestly think they'd have him go trans, it'd go over kid's heads and lead to some probably uncomfortable conversations at the dinner table.

But, I live in the US, so maybe the social 'rules' are different in the UK. I'm just putting in my 2 cents.

Anonymous said...

Your 2cents aint worth much over thats only one pence

jokes

=P

But yeah jack going trans way to grown-up a theme for children and a family show.

Anonymous said...

Wow. Some craaaaazy theories here. I'm just sticking with RS being RS and noone else. There probably is a lot more to her, and she may indeed not actually be his love from the future. But I really don't think she's someone else in a different body.

Anonymous said...

I really can't think of anyone the Doctor would trust 'completely' except for Rose (and that's just my Drose shipping coming out now). I really want to know who she is, but also, as much as I want her killed off, that would create a paradox, and I think we've all had just about enough of those, thank-you very much.
I think she's got to say something about his past - something that he'd only tell to someone he 'trusts completely', which I still refuse to believe is RS. Maybe something about his family, or Gallifrey, or the Time War? Maybe, rather than telling him his own name, as people have suggested, she tells him her name, and it turns out to be the daughter of his former best friend or something. Can't be someone he knew directly though, as she said 'I've never seen you this young', or something, in last week's episode.
Can't wait for the episode though!

Anonymous said...

That quote could be "If he runs, I'll kill him." rather than "If he dies, I'll kill him." since it would be pretty stupid to threaten to kill someone if they die. Then again, this is RS, and I hate her. (No offence to anyone who likes her.)
"If he dies, I'll kill him." does sound like a typical Donna quote, as someone already said, and I can see RS saying it, but I like the idea that it involves running. :)

I don't think it's likely that RS is someone who's parents knew the Doctor, since she's obviously in love with him, and he'd be like, her uncle, almost.
