Planet Gallifrey: McGann?

McGann?

Right, well... first off, here's a nice article from DigitalSpy about those wee McGann rumors:

BBC refutes McGann return story

The BBC has rejected tabloid claims that Paul McGann has been cast in a forthcoming Doctor Who special.

McGann portrayed the eighth incarnation of The Doctor in a 1996 television movie and a series of spinoff audio adventures. The Sun claimed that he will reprise the role in a 2009 special written by RTD.

BBC refutes McGann 'Dr Who' return story

The article stated that he is "expected to begin filming in October or November" and will shoot scenes set during the Time War, an event that is key to the current mythology of the revived series. However, a spokeswoman told Digital Spy: "There is no truth to the story at all."

And secondly... just to keep the wheel spinning and whatnot... similar articles like this were released when the rumors of Kyle being in Voayage of the Damned and Rose coming back were started. Some people believe that the BBC only seem to go into denial when there actually is some truth to it.

And thirdly, just because it makes me happy:

"McGann is DEFINATELY back.
It has been confirmed to me this morning.
The source is cast iron and there is no room for doubt in my mind.
And if I'm wrong then may one of Ghengis Khan's Elephants try to sit on me (you'll understand this last comment when the epsiode airs)"
(The Doctor's Trainers, DWF)

So, who believes it and who thinks its all a load of twaddle?

i WANT mcgann to appear, but will he? do they want links to old who? itll sell dvds though :)

so is digital spy a source of bbc misinformation?

I'm pretty sure that the BBC isn't allowed to lie. Remember all the so-called spoilers about Harriet Jones being "mother of all Daleks" and all that rot? RTD plays the game, sure, but that's just RTD.

I am quite excited if there is going to be a flashback featuring Paul McGann, I mean who doesn't love a good old Doctor to appear, and now there will be 2!

I believe it and hope it is true and I agree with you about the BCC denying when it is true :)

Ahhh the Gengis Khan comment:

Dr:"The hoardes of Gengis Khan couldn't get through that door.....and believe me they've tried."

Can't remember which episode.

Cheers.

Combom: Digital Spy is always a source of misinformation, full stop. ;)

Michael: In the very first episode of the new Who. :) Series 1, episode 1, when Rose first came running into the TARDIS to hide from the Autons, wondering how they were going to be safe hiding in a wooden box.

To quote another sci-fi cult show:
"I want to believe."

I really hope McGann shows up. I would mark out so hard!

I would like it to be true. That would be so cool. I've not to trust anyone though. I've been let down to much LOL *crosses fingers*

In the TV movie that masterr said that the Doctor was Gengis Khan!

Seb said...

Ghengis Khan perhaps is in it remember the doc says that the hoards of Genngis Khan tries to get thrugh the TARDIS doors. (What anonymous said earlier!)Not sure about McGann being in it...

Although they'll have to sort out the time war stuff before Moffat takes over.

Anonymous said...

Not really. The Time War has always worked best off-screen; there's nothing from it we need to know, and no TV version could do it justice. And at that, since it's part of the established canon now, there's no reason Moffat couldn't do something with it either.

It would be nice to see a bit more of the time war, even if it meant brining him back. I just don't think he's got the face or talent for a Doctor. Then again, neither do I, so what do I know?

Anonymous said...

Could be useful to bring him back; get the viewers used once again to the idea that there are and will be other Doctors, that David Tennant won't be around forever.

It would be a shame to have him come back without doing a regeneration scene while they have him. Hopefully they'll get Eccleston for an hour of shooting so they can take care of that as well.

>>In the TV movie that masterr said that the Doctor was Gengis Khan!<<

The Doctor also told Lee that the Master had been lying to him, though.

Anonymous said...

I really hope he comes back...
Is that picture of McGann in the Ninth Doctor's leather jacket?

@ anonymous and stormwolf:

the exact quote from s1e1"Rose":

The assembled hoards of Genghis Khan couldn't get through that door, and believe me, they've tried.

So, I think that's enough explanation... The Doctor can't be Genghis Khan.

Anonymous said...

Well, could be, but it wouldn't make a lot of sense...

James said...

steven moffet said as long as he was the showrunner he wouldnt do anything about the time war

>So, I think that's enough explanation... The Doctor can't be Genghis Khan.<<

Nah, I know, I was just explaining to the other guy that the Master was lying. :)

I hear tell that a trustworthy poster on Outpost Gallifrey rang up McGann the other day and asked him about this; he said it was completely untrue. Take that how you will.

Anonymous said...

Let's just wait and see, yeah?

Also, the Doctor could be Genghis Khan. The explanation is a tad complex though.

There's some news on the Christmas Special over at the BBC's site (the item about Russell and the new book)... just as a heads up. Spoiler alert (of course)!

Anonymous said...

Why do poeple refuse to tell? I mean come on if its true then you just say its the truth Plaese we saw it last year when the new Ds lite came out of course they deneied it but it came out any way!

on msn entertainment it says : Doctor Who will apparently come face to face with a future version of himself in this year's Christmas episode.
According to The Sun, the Time Lord sees a damsel in distress, and as he goes to save her she is intercepted by another man - the Doctor from the future, played by David Morrissey.
"He steps forward to save her when this other man swings in, dashing, brilliant, amazing, clever, witty, saves the day," the show's creator Russell T Davies is quoted as saying.
The two Time Lords then become companions for the duration of the festive episode.
Last year's Christmas episode of the sci-fi show - which stars David Tennant as the Doctor - featured a guest turn by pop princess Kylie Minogue.

don't know if you all know this but i havent checked the website in ages. Plus i swear you get younger every time u regenerate and morrisey is older than tennant

thekelvingreen said...

Nah, Morrissey's character is just going to be a conman posing as The Doctor, not a future incarnation.

The Genghis Khan source implies that s/he knows that the episode will feature Genghis Khan and his war-elephants. Except... Genghis didn't have elephants, that was Hannibal. Think about it, guys, Genghis was Mongolian. There are no elephants in Mongolia. You can't conquer two-thirds of the known world with elephants. Paul McGann may be coming back, there may be an episode about Genghis Khan, but this person has no idea, and it is to them just as much of a rumour as it is to us.
