Doctor Who filming, 15.05.09

Haha, it was bound to happen wasn't it?
Oh yes, a very interesting scene (or possibly scenes) was filmed recently.

And by the way, I have no idea if this is the right order for the scenes, or even whats going on in them. I'm just guessing :)

Episode 18, scene 7

A young, naive Rose walks with Jackie through the Powell Estate. Its decorated with Christmas lights, graffiti, and the ground is covered in snow. From their expressions, it almost looks as if they're having a bit of a tiff...

Whether this is the case or not, they seem to make up as they hug and wish each other a 'happy new year', this is followed by Rose telling Jackie not to stay out all night, to which she replies 'you try and stop me!'

While this is happening, the Doctor is standing around the corner. The TARDIS is further down the street but not near him at this time. He leans against the wall and seems momentarily convulsed with pain, staggering just as Rose walks past.

Rose: Are you alright, mate?
Doctor: What year is it?
Rose: 2005
Doctor: You know what? I bet your going to have a really great year.

This was taken between takes

And then I'm assuming that after this interchange Rose walks on, obviously having no idea who this man is since she hasn't even met the 9th Doctor yet... and our Doctor... well, he has exciting encounters :)

A very evil looking Ood Sigma...

EDIT: Apparently Sigma wasn't supposed to have red-eye, it was a mistake made by the costume department and when they re-shot the scene he was normal and un-evil.

There was speculation that this scene was merely a pick up shot from the end of Waters of Mars, however, since the Doctor is wearing his brown suit rather than his blue I'm going to assume that this is a second encounter with Sigma.

Unfortunately we don't really know anything about this second scene since the set reporters were asked to not take any photos or divulge spoilers. The only reason we have the Ood picture at all is because newspapers are apparently less honest :P

But according the quite a few people, the filming was very very emotional... the bittersweet kind as well...

Sun Stuff for Return of Rose

From the Sun... *shrug* take it how you want, we all know how they'll snap up any Who news there is, even if its Smithy in a hat.

Billie's back on Doctor Who

BILLIE Piper will return to Doctor Who with ALL the Time Lord’s former companions as part of David Tennant’s final episode.

Billie, 26, will again play Rose Tyler and teams up with other sidekicks Donna Noble (Catherine Tate) and Martha Jones (Freema Agyeman).

The trio will join forces to take on the Doctor’s revived arch-enemy The Master, played again by John Simm. The episode sees the Timelord regenerate into the new Doctor (Matt Smith).

An insider said: “This will be the most exciting episode Doctor Who have ever done. We really wanted to get all the companions back on board as a fitting send-off to David.

“And of all the enemies for him to face in his final episode it makes sense for The Master to be the main one. Getting Billie to agree is a real coup, but she loved working on the show so much it didn’t take much convincing.”

Rose — who left after series two — formed the strongest bond with the Doctor out of the female companions. She returned for a few episodes in the last series where she was reunited with the Doctor.

Rose then returned to Earth with a separate half-human version of the Time Lord.

Since she left Doctor Who, Billie has gone on to star in the raunchy ITV2 drama Secret Diary of a Call Girl. She plays a high-class hooker in the risque show, which is currently on its third series.

We revealed yesterday how her three brothers and sisters are embarrassed about her success (You can read that article hereDavid, 37, will quit the show after the last of the four specials.

Meanwhile the red London bus set to feature in the first special has been damaged in Dubai by schoolkids. The double decker, which was smashed up shortly after arriving in Arab state for filming, was stripped for “souvenirs” after producers parked it outside a school.

A show source said: “This really is the unluckiest bus in the universe.”

Thar we go!

Doctor Who filming, 26.01.09

A quick one from Scooty :)

The scene was DT and MR getting onto the bus. MR gets on first, looking rather paniced, talks to the bus driver, then takes her seat. DT follows, flashes his pyschic paper at the driver then takes his seat next to MR.

Followed by lots of pictures from Scooty, the Sun and Daily Mail
And yes, Tennant is eating a chocolate orange :D

Doctor Who News

Filming is going on inside at the moment, so there might not be any set reports for a while.

The only thing to report is that a second bus was transported to Dubai for filming. However, during transit the bus was extensively damaged (a 30 tonne container was dropped on it) so the script is now being altered by RTD.

Media & Doctor Who filming!

Woop woop!

Okay, there will be filming going on tonight in a Museum. So it'll probably be inside though we might get some outside action as well.

According to Scooty (and his magical camera of delight) there are fake signs outside the building and a "weird semi circle globe lighting being put up around the exterior"

This was the same building that was used for the Lazarus Experiment

ETA- Scooty later added
"it seems (a possible) Michelle Ryan is filming scenes inside a Museum that is having a display of Incan/Roman and Egyptian artefacts. From the outside we could see a series of ropes, pulleys and ballists being used to swing an actress around.

"It looked like it could be Michelle Ryan, but I can't say for definate. She was wearing an all black cat suit and was blonde... A cat burgler type companion then?"

And alun.vega (Flickr account) managed to get a shot of the extras dressed as "International Gallery" security guards

And heres the recent media we have. Its mostly covering the same "Michelle Ryan as companion" story... so nothing much new really.

Telegraph - EastEnders actress Michelle Ryan could be Doctor Who's new assistant
Teletext - Michelle to help new Doc?
Digital Spy - Ryan tipped as new 'Who' assistant

Stuff.co.nz - Dr Who sidekick may be a kiwi

And DigitalSpy has a fantastic article all about the Cybermen

"Since their debut in 1966, the sinister silver monsters known as the Cybermen have been a recurring source of fear for fans of Doctor Who. Their desperate desire to survive and convert others to their kind has provided some of the show's most horrific moments over the past four decades. Yet despite a terrifying start in the modern incarnation of Doctor Who, the Cybermen's stock has quickly fallen with their woeful appearance in the recent Christmas Special. Cult Spy examines their demise..."

Series 4 companions and finale

This is from the Daily Mail, and is going on about a Doctor Who multi-companion story!

Catherine Tate will take on the assistant's role as Donna Noble, which she played in last year's Christmas special. Just to confuse things, Billie will also be returning and Agyeman pops up again.

It doesn't strike me as very feminist that Doctor Who has gone from one assistant a yeah to a virtual harem.

"It's very clever like that," says Davies with a reproving glance. "There is a very big story coming up and the Doctor needs everyone he has ever needed to fight for him"

Davies promises 'some of the best drama you have seen - tears, tempers, passion, the finest acting.'

I ask if the tenderness between Tennant and Piper was a loss to the show. Piper left to broaden her acting repertoire but has seemed a bit lost lately. Similarly, Christopher Eccleston, Tennant's predecessor, has not surpassed himself outside the role. There is a constant worry about actors leaving the show in case the spell disintegrates.

I wonder if Martha had been to sophisticated and emotionally reserved to win over audiences as Rose had done. Davies is a touch defensive when he explains that Martha was always going to be second best to Rose.

"Thats how we played it, rather than fight it. It would have been an awful moment if the Doctor had said 'Oh, you are like a new Rose to me.'

Tenth Doctor Companions

Name: Rose Tyler
Race: Human
Time of Origin: Early 21st Century
Planet of Origin: Earth

In the first of the new series entitled 'Rose', we find her working as a shop assistant. She has a boyfriend named Mickey Smith, lives in a council-flat with her mother Jackie and is generally bored with her mundane life

One night, after the shops close, she encounters mannequins coming to life in the basement of Henrik's. The Autons are about to dispose of her when the ninth Doctor saves her life, although he proceeds to destroy the building, thus costing Rose her job.

From that moment on, she aids the Doctor in saving the Earth, and agrees to travel with him after her told her he could go to anywhere and anywhen.

At the end of the ninth Doctor's time, Rose looks into the heart of the TARDIS and absorbs the energies of the time vortex in order to save the Doctor and the Earth from the Daleks. However, soon the energies she absorbed begin to destroy her body. The Doctor, through a kiss, absorbs the power, sacrificing his ninth incarnation and regenerating before Rose's eyes into the Tenth Doctor

Rose is initially disconcerted at the Doctor's transformation, and is even more distressed when the Doctor falls into a post-regenerative coma. However, when the Doctor recovers and defeats the Sycorax, who were planning an invasion, Rose happily accepts his new face and manner.

During a visit home, Rose and the Doctor find that both the Cybermen and the Daleks are invading their Earth. Although Rose and the Doctor manage to remove both enemies from Earth, by sucking them into the Void, Rose is lost from the Doctor as she herself nearly falls in. She is saved just in time by her father but at the cost of being trapped in a parallel universe.

Later, the Doctor manages to project his image through the last crack between the universes, sharing a tearful farewell with her. Rose mentions working with that parallel Earth's version of Torchwood due to her experience with aliens.

After last seeing Rose, the Doctor would often become depressed at the mere mention of her name, or whenever he is reminded of her. Towards the end of their time together, there was a strong sense of love between the two, so much so that Rose admitted her feelings for him. When the Doctor was about to reply however, the transition cut off leaving a sobbing Rose.

Rose was a strong willed and passionate person, who had a strong sense of justice. It was her kindness and devotion that managed to add joy to the ninth Doctor's gloomy personality. She also got on well with all of the other companions, though occasionally seemed irritated or dismissive of her semi-boyfriend, Mickey.

Name: Mickey Smith
Race: Human
Time of Origin: Early 21st Century
Planet of Origin: Earth

Mickey lives on the same South-East London council estate as Rose and works as a mechanic at the local garage. He was first introduced as her boyfriend however, once they both became connected to the Doctor, Rose left him to go and travel while he himself was to afraid to go.

Mickey's initial cowardice and his panicky description of the Doctor as an 'alien... a thing' does not impress the Doctor, and he pointedly states that Mickey is not invited. However, in the later episode 'World war three', Mickey bravely defends Rose's mother Jackie from the Slitheen and helps to end the alien threat. These actions earn him a degree of the Doctor's respect.

After the appearance of the tenth Doctor, Mickey becomes a more prominent role. He helps save a school from the alien race, Krillitanes and finally joins the TARDIS crew, although he expresses the worry that he is a third wheel and taken for granted.

When visiting a parallel Earth, he is mistaken for his parallel counterpart, Ricky Smith. When Ricky is later killed by the Cybermen, Mickey takes his place and remains on parallel Earth. As the Doctor states that travel between parallel universes is impossible, it seems that Mickey will be stuck in this alternate reality, never to meet the Doctor or Rose again.

However, in 'Army of Ghosts', he reappears. He appears more confident and self-assured than previously and soon becomes part of the fight against the Dalek and Cyberman armies. At the conclusion of 'Doomsday', Mickey returns to the parallel universe along with Pete, Jackie, Jake and Rose and the breach is sealed.

Name: Donna Noble
Race: Human
Time of Origin: Early 21st Century
Planet of Origin: Earth

In the events of 'The Runaway Bride', Donna Noble is a temporary secretary at H.C. Clements, a security firm which, unknown to her, provides a front for Torchwood.

On the day of her wedding, she is accidentally pulled into the TARDIS as a result of being dosed with Huon particles by her duplicitous fiance, Lance, who is following the orders of the Empress of the Racnoss whom she aids the Doctor in defeating.

Although Donna's primary appearance shows her as a short tempered, sarcastic and loud-mouthed individual, as she meets the Doctor and finally sees the 'bigger picture' as the formation of the world is shown to her, she finally decides to make something of her life.

She is asked if she would like to travel with the Doctor, but declines his invitation — possibly because she is frightened not only by his adventures, but also, to a certain extent, by the Doctor himself and his occasional dark side.

Name: Martha Jones
Race: Human
Time of Origin: Early 21st Century
Planet of Origin: Earth

A 23-year-old medical student from, Martha meets the Doctor in 'Smith and Jones'. She subsequently saves his life whereupon he then saves her, everyone else in the hospital and half of Earth from imminent destruction. In need of a new friend, though not willing to admit it to himself, he invites Martha to join him for "just one trip" in order to thank her.

The Doctor initially displays a rather conflicted attitude to her presence, having clearly been impressed by her intelligence, intuition, resourcefulness and compassion in their first meeting, yet remaining unable to fully move forward from the loss of Rose.

After extending her trip at least twice, the Doctor comes to appreciate her value and, when Martha finally calls him on his treatment of her, admits that she is more than "just a passenger". The Doctor relies on Martha in numerous life-threatening situations and frequently thanks her for taking care of him.

In 'Utopia', the TARDIS travels to the end of existence, where Martha inadvertently causes the renegade Time Lord, The Master, to reclaim his identity. In 'The sound of Drums' the newly elected Prime Minister, a.k.a the Master, takes control of the Earth. Although he captures the TARDIS crew, Martha escapes and travels the Earth for a year on her own. During this time, she speaks to the surviving humans as part of a plan that restores the incapacitated Doctor and rewinds time to reverse the Master's takeover.

At the end of 'Last of the Time Lords', Martha voluntarily departs the TARDIS to stay with her family, complete her medical education and come to terms with her unrequited feelings for the Doctor. She leaves her phone with the Doctor, telling him that when she calls, "you'd better come running".

Name: Captain Jack Harkness
Race:
Unknown
Time of Origin:
51st Century
Planet of Origin:
Boeshane Peninsula

Jack first appeared in the two-parter episodes 'The Empty Child' and 'The Doctor Dances'. Rose meets him during the London Blitz in 1941, where he is posing as an American Captain (and is truly a Time Agent who has had him memory partially erased). Jack initially tries to con her and the Doctor but as he becomes deeply involved and a key member of the team, he is transformed from the con man he was into a hero.

In 'The Parting of the Ways', he is shot dead opposing the Daleks, but Rose brings him back to life while suffused with the power of the time vortex. This had the untimely effect of providing Jack with immortality, so what ever happened, he could not die.

Because of the Doctors instinct of feeling that Jack was 'wrong' as he could not die, The captain was left in the year 2100. Here, he managed to travel back to Earth and arrived in the year 1869. Once there, he decided to wait until he could meet up with the Doctor again.

During this long wait, Jack became head of Torchwood in Cardiff. Here, it appears that Jack is a changed man. He keeps himself wrapped in mystery and sometimes appeared ruthless and violent, although, usually it was for the greater good. He also displays a deep compassion for those who are suffering especially when it is revolved around death.

When the Doctor lands in Cardiff to refuel, Jack jumps on the disappearing ship. But, like the Doctor, the TARDIS has an instinct that Jack simply 'feels' wrong and, while trying to shake him off, arrives at the end of the universe.

Jack aids the Doctor and Martha in trying to stop the Master from ruling the universe - during which he spends a year in chains and being constantly killed by the Master for enjoyment.
When the Doctor offers Jack a secondary chance to travel with him, Jack refuses, opting to stay and command Torchwood.

It is reveled that, as Jack cannot die, he will consequently run into the Doctor many thousands of year later, though the Doctor will not recognize him as he has changed to resemble a giant, telepathic face, known only as the Face of Boe.

When a lone 'Dalek' begins killing all those in the bunker where Adam works, he finds himself running from it along with Rose. At the end of the episode, Rose asks the Doctor to take Adam along with them in the TARDIS as he hass always wanted to see the stars.

During 'The Long Game', Adam has an advanced computer interface port installed in his head so he could access the future's computer systems. This act nearly caused the death of both the Doctor and Rose and, as a result the Doctor returns Adam to his home.
