Basically a 'pan-dimensional surfboard'... but if you want the techno-explanation, it is: An interstellar transportation platform that utilities massive energy to create a force bubble that protects the rider while riding the shockwave to its destination.

It was introduced in Boom Town and used thereafter to create a force field around the TARDIS. When it was seen in The Runaway Bride the Extrapolator is partly covered by a coral-like crust, similar to that found in the console room. This suggests that the TARDIS has somehow begun to absorb it into its systems.

Bananas
